Anecdotal stories about side effects of anti-depression medication from 20+ years ago do not help today. It only further stigmatizes the medication necessary to save many lives. Until we find out if he was even on medication or had ever been treated for mental health issues (which I'm pretty sure we'd have heard about by now), I don't think speculating about depression medication is helping anyone. JMO, respectfully.

I saw the interview with the taxi driver last night on either CNN or MSNBC.

I thought the house always wins so I dont get how someone with his intellect would waste that kind of money?

The house always comes out on top but people do make a living as professional gamblers. The house winning doesn't mean everyone who gambles loses everything.

Please stick to discussing the known facts of this case rather than speculating on a disorder the perp may or may not have had, or what medication he may or may not have been on. If/when such information comes to light as an established fact, you may discuss it then.

With Poker, you play against other players, so there is no "House advantage." Poker is as much a game of skill as it is luck. Poker players see it as a game of wits. The smartest wins.

There have been several posts recently (sorry for not quoting them) wondering about how people can pick on signs that someone might commit an act like this one.

This is an article that appeared in Mother Jones magazine in 2015, and it is an excellent in-depth examination into the current thinking about this topic.

Inside the Race to Stop the Next Mass Shooter: A Growing Number of Cops, Psychologists, and Community Leaders are Working Together to Stem the Bloodshed

OMG what a very interesting article, and very exhausting. Unless “these” people are followed for the rest of their lives how can “threat management “ work. Do they need to check in with professionals like criminals do with their probation officers?

Whoa. He kept three years of text messages?

"When he spoke to the FBI, Eric Paddock said he showed agents three years of text messages from his brother, including one that mentioned winning $250,000 at a casino."

I delete mine immediately. Never have kept texts over 2 days. Heck, my cell phones die after 2 years. Is this odd to anyone else?
It's suspicious to me. MOO

I never delete messages except from my MIL because she sends me sooo many pictures and it uses my memory. Just scrolled to the bottom of my text and I have messages from 2013 still and I got a new phone last year. When you backup your phone and then move it to a new one, it keeps all your text.

My phone defaults to 1000 messages per person saved so if you didn't text someone very often and you didn't change phones often (common in older folks), I can see how you could have years worth of messages. Another option is that he used a service like Google Voice which saves all texts by default and you'd have to delete manually.

I just went back and checked my own Android phone (that I've had for a year) and I have messages all the way back to 2012 from my mom who I text regularly so yeah, I don't see anything suspicious about someone having messages from 3 years ago from their sibling.

Maybe, maybe not. I don't text much with my sibs, and I tend to save their particular texts just to make it easy to "reply" if I need to text them. I don't have three-years' worth of their txt msgs, but perhaps a year's worth - and that is not many with my family.

These two brothers aren't of the generation that texts very often so I can't imagine that there would be many messages between them, so might as well save them.

I just deleted a bunch of messages and pictures last week to free up memory. Some dated back a couple of years. I had just never thought about deleting them before. I don’t think it’s suspicious at all.

The Washington Post is keeping a running list of Misinformation, Fake News, And Viral Hoaxes that are being continuously spread and have occurred directly after the tragedy.

Hilarious coming from a MSM outlet where so much fake news starts. Absolutely hilarious.
