Las Vegas 'sleepover'

They called it the “neon sleepover.” The Route 91 Harvest Festival — three days of country music on a 15-acre lot, beneath the skyline of Las Vegas.

You could bring your kid, but no teddy bears or fireworks.

You could drink, dance and sleep in an RV park for $45 a night.

“adult playground,” Rolling Stone wrote. And the lineup for its fourth year was “stellar.”

And then the third night, which in many ways has not yet ended.

A couple got engaged to the lyrics of High Valley’s “Make You Mine” electric fans blew mists of water into the crowd beneath the fierce Nevada sun.

“Passes had long ago sold out, but one fan got in courtesy of a golden can of Budweiser:
.
fleeing and screaming and falling and dying.

The night would go on, but the music was done.......

Am I the only one who finds it odd that this man lived 64 years but there are only 3 pictures of him? We haven't even seen a driver's license picture. I can't help but feel that there's a lot we don't know and never will know about him.

Whaaaaat!?!?! She worked there and he had her employee access card?? I'm going to wait for more info about that. Most employees of a casino cannot play there or their significant others cannot play there at all.

Also, I am surprised if she was/is out of the country....andon vacation, and the hotel knew she was not at work because she was on vacation, why security did not pick up on the fact her hotel i.d. card was being used to gain entry. One would think either a security employee would be visually checking employee log in and out daily sheets or a computer would be doing it and sending up red flags that an employee was gaining entry when not scheduled to work. IMO there is a weakness in the security system for possibly not checking on non scheduled employees coming into work using their hotel i.d.’s.

Excellent analysis of the gunfire, especially for those of us who don't know about guns. There is video with a voice-over by a NY Times reporter who served in the Marines. He explains what the gunfire noise tells us about the weapons.

There are some pieces I'm still confused about.

Paraphrasing here, need full transcript, but for now, the the female witness in the blue shirt celebrating her 21st birthday said via interview with a reporter that she and her companion(s) left and went back to their hotel about 10 or 15 minutes before the shooting because she felt uncomfortable about the woman saying they were all going to die. She said his woman was also harassing another woman in front of her with similar words. As I understand it she, the person being interviewed, notified security because it was making her and others uncomfortable and they escorted the female out. When asked, she gave a description that they were both hispanic, gave their approx heights and basically said they just looked like average people. She also said she wasn't sure if the female was saying this to warn them , or if she was saying it like she was part of it.

So, how did this woman know people were going to die?

Has security or the other woman commented on this, etc?

Very surpirsed we havent heard more about this. The woman was with her mother and she was pretty specific in the on-air interview. I am thinking perhaps the coward was partying with some people earlier in the weekend and let his plan spill? Too much of a coincidence for me.

I'd say that if he just let it spill to people randomly, they would go to the police. If this is correct, this person would have been involved from very early on. IMO.

I give the brother far more credibility.

The brothers were not close and had even more limited contact with each other in the past ten years. The arsenal the shooter had could be accumulated over say one year of gradually building plans (even less, if one really wanted to).

In addition, several other witnesses have stated that the shooter did not mention weapons at all, let alone boast about owning an arsenal or engaging in a lot of target practice. The brother's statements that the shooter was outwardly "just a guy" are entirely believable.

The "guy" apparently was successful, but had an unpleasant, shallow personality. His interest in his fellow humans was probably mainly limited to those who paid him rent money which enabled him to indulge himself in his interests and in those who brought him stuff or provided him stuff because they were paid to to so.

There are no indications that the unpleasant / shallow personality of the shooter was extreme or was even personally manipulative. We all know or have met "guys" like this. Some intelligent, some not. Some financially successful, others not. Basically, they are the mild to moderate jerks of the world.

If the brothers were not close over recent years, then the brother really doesn't know what the suspect was up to. Clearly suspect wasn't "just a guy" because "just a guy" doesn't shoot people out of his hotel window.

One woman, who was at the Route 91 music event, claimed an unidentified woman had told other concert-goers they were “all going to die” after pushing her way to the front of the venue.

The witness, 21, told local news: “She had been messing with a lady in front of her and telling her she was going to die, that we were all going to die.
“They escorted her out to make her stop messing around with all the other people, but none of us knew it was going to be serious.”
She described the lady as Hispanic. The lady was escorted from the venue along with a man.
The unnamed witness, who was attending the event on her 21st birthday, described the pair as short, both around 5 ft 5ins to 5ft 6ins tall, and looked like “everyday people”.

better article on the situation. Not sure if this is considered MSM:

No you're not the only one. When the Boston Bombers blew up people at the marathon their lives were combed over including their family. We got treated to multiple pictures of them and various family members ad nauseum. Including childhood pictures of the bombers.

With this man, there's very little. Sure is odd IMO. I expected more pictures.

Do we have any information on when the shooter made reservations for the rooms?

Also when was he buying his weapons and ammunition?

Knowing these facts would give us a clue about when he started planning this attack.

Boston bombers were a different generation than this suspect. Generation much more used to social media. When this suspect was born, there was no internet.

Or maybe it's a coincidence. Maybe this woman goes out everyday and tells people they are going to die.

Some people just do not like being photographed. Me, for instance.

I have my photo taken once every 10 years to get my passport renewed, and grudgingly if my employer insists on getting a mugshot for a security pass.

Other than that, no.

I actively avoid any social situations where people are waving cameras, or even phones, about. Sometimes this means missing events that I would otherwise attend but that's the price I pay for visual privacy.

There isn't a single photo of me anywhere on t'interwebs and I plan to keep it that way.

I may be paranoid but I have no plans to go shooting up public places or events.

Two Nevada gun shops confirmed Monday that they sold firearms to Mandalay Bay shooter Stephen Paddock in the last year and said he passed all required background checks.

At least three other gun shops and ranges in the Las Vegas area said they had been in contact with law enforcement about Paddock but declined to discuss any purchases or visits he made.

Martin J. Kravitz was the lead attorney for Cosmopolitan Hotels when Paddock sued the facility over a slip and fall in 2012.

"He was really kind of bizarre. He dressed slovenly to the deposition," Kravitz said. "He is the kind of personality that's slovenly and careless."

Kravitz said that Paddock did not seem angry and was not the kind of person who would have stood out.

Agree I dont know was most of his life in his head only ?

It feels like at this point a lot of the info that si coming out is from brother- who more and more seems like he is repeating what brother told him

need a pic of an airplane

stuff like that

something concrete and just not self report from a brother who imo for some reason as more sound bites come out might be living thro his brother or something like that.

I dont feel as if I am describing , for lack of better word, my vibe emerging.

The perp seems to be sounding more like a grifter than -- he was a bookkeeper for some peroids of time in 64 years.

His father hung out on the FBI most wanted list and was described as quite mentally unstable.

Brother described a nomad like existence , another brother had nothing to do with him for two decades

brothers home in background was nothing impressive - we have no work background for him or any of the other family members

no children failed marriage howard huges reclusive existance

places to live with nothing on walls and a dining room table

neighbors who describe him as odd

sleeps in till noon all the time

gambling and alcohol are pretty big friends

the one pic out there he appears smashed imo

in the other he looks like he had not showered in a bit moo

a girlfriend a roommate --is it really common for noone to know what that relationship was ?

Sounds like he told some people one thing about the relationship and others somethig different?

Nothing at all known about one sibling?

At some level I think that we can all get thrown off in that a person that injured the most people since 911 only has one parket ticket

that throws us -- millions of people commit crimes and don't get caught.

vagabond existence

his wife has been reported all over the place australia toyoko etc etc how does anyone not know where a person is??

Consistently described as schleppy and often unpresentable basically. That can be imo perceived as neurotic or in another context a component of mental illness.

hypothetically a fishing license in Alaska--are there no fishing licenses where he lived>

Its a very bizarre and disconnected psychosocial history

The brother within 6 hours is talking about thinking of brain tumors and wanting his brothers brain taken out and checked out??

that too certainly imo seems like a family belief system might include something like thinking that dads brain was defective .

To think that your brothers brain needs removal is just peculiar in and of itself.

It kinda feels like brother was not working

in a second interview (no judgement) brother appeared imo to behave more erratically - standing in his doorway yelling statements to reporters while his arms were flailing all over the place --in some context some of his outbursts were in and of themselves erratic and somewhat disconnected a bit all over the place

could certainly be stress imo but his affect was markedly different from earlier video

Typically family members kinda go into seclusion not standing in their doorways giving yelling interviews??

I do not know this but it just appeared as if out of the blue he just stepped out of his doorway almost random

his initial interview tho, at times seemed cohesive

I think not sure dad killed himself.

At one point he lived his mommy--just possibly there might be some meaningful info at that point in his life.

all in all just bizarre

to me it sounded as if it was not like he held a position at Lockheed for 30 steady years (may be off here) it sounded as if he popped in from time to time

I think more regarding drinking will emerge learning something from his initial wife might be rather illuminating. DV? Temper
impulsivity??

Sounds as if he did not own a car -- at 64- well that might explain no DUI history?

don't know just ramblings here!!

no

Just read a NYTimes article on the web where Paddock's brother states his brother gambled and played video poker for a living, lived in hotel rooms and went on cruises. I know it was reported his career was that of an accountant. There is something very strange about his life as a retiree. I'm going to bank on card counting with someone else close to him.
