Are there games on those ships where a person could make money? I doubt if they have the high caliber of people working the casino like they do in Vegas.

We have a friend who has a $10,000 fund just for gambling, He plays blackjack and my husband says our friend wins. He does it for fun, not a living.

I know a guy who set the odds at a casino or maybe more than one, for payouts on slot machines. There is no way anyone can determine when you are going to win. It sounds like the monster played slots as well.

I can see how you have a chance at blackjack. But my urban legend says they kick out card counters, I also heard they do not cater to big winners.

So,was he a big winner?

Cruise ship casinos do have a handful of popular games like blackjack, roulette, craps, baccarat, poker, slots etc. You sure can make some real money by placing large wagers.

A $10k fund for gambling is pretty small compared to most hardcore gamblers. I work at a casino and people blow through $10k in one night multiple times per week.

You can make money on any game. Some games are closer to 50/50 odds of winning; like BJ, roulette (playing red or black), baccarat. Poker is one of the only games where if you are skilled and know percentages very well, the odds can be in your favor. A player using an advantage like counting in BJ does work. Casinos will take preventative measures to make sure the player can't count very efficiently.

That's from an incident in 2013 when a maid was attacked in the hallway. I don't think surveillance in the hotel hallways is nearly as important to the hotels as it is in the casinos. They care about protecting their money and making sure things are running smooth on the casino floor. They probably don't care too much what goes on in the hallways of the hotel. Well maybe now they do, but I don't think it was that much of a concern before this. JMO

I'm saying what I've been saying. That the majority of the 200 rounds would have had to pass through the lower portion of the left door, which we cannot see. My issue with that is that 200 rounds would have absolutely decimated that one area. I'm not sure why this is such a contentious notion. I don't think he didn't shoot a considerable number of rounds through the hallway. It just seems like 200 is a very high number for what we see and know. He would have had to have gone through two mag dumps and a mag/weapon change, which would have been over 30 seconds of shooting within the hall, at 6 rounds per second (a generous rate of fire estimate), with a mag change/weapons system change in there. Given that police came up on the security guard "within seconds" of him getting shot (per the sheriff), but were not engaged themselves, there is some contradictory information going on.

It looks to me like the door laying sideways is only part of the door. It's not as wide as the door still in the frame. I think the side nearest the hinges is probably where the bullets went - would make sense hit there if your intent is taking the door off.

Editing to add: I thought the sheriff was saying LE fired 200 rounds at the door. Maybe I was wrong?

we went on a cruise out of Galveston Carnival, never again, anyway my hubby found out too late there was a tournament for poker I think they gave you the start money and the winner got to keep 10 or 20K can't remember how much, my hubby is a gambler and knows all those games. He played all night one night with the players of that tournament. Hubby won 500 right as soon as the ship left on some machine. I speculated the casino payed more on the way out to cruise then on the way back. They want you to go brag and intice more players while the cruise has just started vs. on the way back when people are packing tired planning whats next after the ship docks.

I imagine the security guy got the hell out of the way of the door as fast as he could. Doubt that he just stood there to receive 200 hits. JMO

No, they said the shooter shot "well over 200 rounds" through the door/into the hallway.

just my thoughts, but I feel like this guy knew his life was over for reasons yet unknown. I think he ticked off the wrong crowd and has laid blame on the casino for not getting him out of whatever trouble he was in, after all look at how much money the casino made off his skills winning at gambling, this is how I feel he was thinking so call it a breakup or a widow either way it was over for her too.

The valium someone mentioned. It was stated it was 10mg tablets of Valium. This is a high dose IMO. As a nurse, I only gave 10mg of Valium via an injection to a patient who had seizures. I've commonly seen it given in 2mg dosage. I've seen it given when someone has esophageal spasms, often seen with cancer patients, or after their cancer surgery. Even then, 5 mg was initially given, then lowered to 2mg.

It eases muscle spasms, as well anxiety. I just don't know why a doctor would prescribe 10mg dosage if smaller dosages hadn't been tried first....

Another odd thing about this case...among many others

Valium is sometimes used for patients who are trying to detox from alcohol at home. A 10 mg dose would be standard for that. It's usually a tapered schedule, such as 10 mg 3x a day for a couple days, then 2x a day for a couple more, then once a day for a couple.
