Cold Case Murder of Elvis Impersonator Heats Up

Police have explored various theories related to the popular Las Vegas figures' deaths, including the the theory that the couple disturbed a burglary in progress and another unfounded theory that Mackay had ties to large scale drug trafficking.

Additionally Mackay ran a landscaping business separate to his stage career, and police extensively investigated his former business partner, after an acrimonious end to their working relationship - Mackay had accused the business partner of attempting to rip him off on a potentially lucrative deal to supply palm trees to be used in a beautification project on the Vegas strip.

Dana MacKay was the top Elvis Presley impersonator in Las Vegas. His murder remains unsolved 27 years later.
'When it came to the army of Elvis Presley impersonators in Las Vegas, Dana MacKay was the King of the hill.'

'But on Oct. 2, 1993, their lives hit a sour note.
When police arrived at the house, they found the couple dead on the floor. The had been dead for a day, maybe longer.
Mackay’s daughter still remembers her grandmother’s howls of anguish.'

MacKay made a tidy living but his true passion was landscaping. And he loved the slew of palm trees he had planted at “mini-Graceland.”

'MacKay believed he could make a bundle planting the palm trees on the Las Vegas strip. The city and Clark County were offering a big contract to plant the trees.'

'Pals said Mackay had the trees but not the financing, so he brought in a buddy named Tim Stone for help in the cash department. The duo formed Paradise Palms and bought $100,000 worth of landscaping equipment to get the job done.''
'But five months later, the partnership came unraveled and the two men were slugging it out in court.'
