"LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former magazine model, her boyfriend and their former roommate are headed toward trial in the killing of a 71-year-old California psychiatrist whose body was found outside Las Vegas, a defense attorney said Friday.

Kelsey Nichole Turner's lawyer, Brian Smith, said his client, Jon Logan Kennison, and Diana Nicole Pena are still due Monday before a Las Vegas judge on murder and conspiracy charges in the slaying of Thomas Kirk Burchard.

However, Smith said their preliminary hearing will be called off after a grand jury handed up an indictment moving the case to Nevada state court for trial....

All are jailed without bail in Las Vegas."

Indictment: Playboy model, boyfriend used blunt instrument to murder psychiatrist in Vegas


Jon Logan Kennison, 27, along with Kelsey Turner, 25, were indicted Thursday, according to an indictment filed in the District Court of Clark County. The couple now stands charged with conspiracy to commit murder and using a deadly weapon to murder a victim 60 or older.

The filing of the grand jury indictment in District Court forced the canceling of a preliminary hearing scheduled in Las Vegas Justice Court on Monday [6/3]. A new hearing in District Court has not been set.

I'll keep an eye out on the court site then....
Wonder if Pena is still showing up for hearing? Will go look....

However, both the defense attorney and the prosecutor noted that Pena was not indicted.

Defense attorneys Brian Smith for Turner and Joseph Abood for Kennison said they'll plead not guilty.

Turner, 26, was arrested March 21 in Stockton, California.

Kennison, 27, was arrested April 17 in Las Vegas.

They remain jailed without bail pending their arraignment June 11 in state court in Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS – A former roommate who has cooperated in the prosecution of a former magazine model and the model’s boyfriend in the killing of a California psychiatrist is preparing to plead guilty to an accessory to murder charge.

Diana Nicole Pena, 31, is due in court Tuesday after agreeing to plead guilty to a reduced charge in the death of 71-year-old Dr. Thomas Burchard.

Pena’s attorney, Jess Matsuda, said Friday his client could get probation or up to five years in prison for her felony conviction.
