CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) -- A hiker found human remains Tuesday January 29, 2019 at approximately noon in the hills north of Carson City, according to Carson City Sheriff, Ken Furlong.

The remains were found in the area of Goni Hills approximately 400 yards from the nearest dirt trail road.

The location of the discovery was approximately 1,400 yards south of the Story County/Carson City line, and over 4,500 yards from the Lyon County line, Furlong states in a news release.

Detectives responded to the area and retrieved a human skull, jaw and what appeared to be a single vertebra within a circle area of approximately 40 feet, said Furlong.

The bones were fully decomposed of flesh, suggesting the remains had been in the exposed environment for an extended period of time, said Furlong. Search and rescue crews were prepared for a more extensive search of the area on Wednesday.

A Friend and Neighbor of mine, Frank Greene 34 of Dayton NV., has been missing for 3 1/2 months. Was Last seen walking away from his home 2am Tuesday October 16 2018 with a Possible blue Jacket and blue backpack with a light camouflage pattern on it. Frank has never been seen again! We have spent many many hours searching for him! Frank is a gentle soul and is reported as a missing person! Praying for his safe return! We love you! Come back home!

1400 yards is about eight-tenths of a mile, or around 1.3 kilometers.
4500 yards is about two and a half miles, or about 4 kilometers.

[Two for the road]

There are historically many more people missing from this area, per old newspapers and their missing persons reports didnt make it to Namus. Carson City, Reno, Lake Tahoe were all very popular tourist stops in the 60s and 70s. A lot of traffic through there.

It would be nice for any more information about the skull whether its male/female. I know all is still in the preliminary phase but I'm impatient! Lol.

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)
Dalton Dunn (27) went missing from Las Vegas in May 2018. He's not listed as an exclusion and is the only WhtMale 18-45 missing from Nevada in 2018. JD's PMI is 9 mos whereas Dalton had been missing for 8 mos. I can't imagine why a comparison hasn't been done except that perhaps there aren't any DNA/dentals for either Dalton or JD. I'll submit his name to the ME's office. Hopefully they'll add his name to the exclusions list if he's already been ruled out.

The NamUs page is still up, but I think this skull may have been identified.

The article is too short to be able to copy all the relevant information. In January 2019, November 2020 and February 2021 human remains were located over a wide area North of Carson City. The remains were linked by DNA to Christopher Cash, missing since 2013 from Carson City.
