LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Nearly four decades after Kathy Jean Diamond vanished, there is a renewed effort to solve the mystery of her disappearance. On February 7, 1987, Diamond told her eldest son, Caleb, she was going to the store and would return later.

That night, her youngest son awoke with a bloody nose and, unable to find his mother, asked Caleb for help. The boys went back to sleep, but when they awoke for school, their mother was still missing.

"There's someone out there that saw her that night and that has not for whatever reason come forward to provide information," said Terri Miller, a cold case investigator.

Diamond was dating a man from California who reported her missing the following day. "He was very cooperative in the police investigation and also hired a private investigator to try to help locate her when detectives weren't making much headway back then," Miller said.

On May 29, 1987, police found Diamond's vehicle abandoned in a parking lot near her apartment at Jimmy Durante Drive and Harmon Avenue. Despite processing the vehicle, no DNA evidence was found. "Unfortunately, even DNA at this point in the vehicle it was processed and we still haven't gotten anything," Miller said. "DNA is our go-to. DNA is an amazing tool to use and unfortunately we don't even have any of that to move the case."
