from the link:

District Attorney David Roger, appearing irked at the testimony, then produced a letter Beau Maestas wrote to his sister about Bantam while in jail.

In the letter, Beau Maestas wrote: "Promise me you'll punch Sabrina's teeth out, kick her lips off, rip her tongue out and wipe your 🤬🤬🤬 with it."

Beau Maestas signed the letter with a sketch of a pitchfork.

Outside of court, Kristyanna's father, David Cowan, said he was skeptical of Bantam's claim that she didn't know what the knives were for.

"How would you not realize what was going on?" Cowan said. "Go get the knives. What's he going to do, go cut some cake?"

Jeana (DP) said:
I would think that every now and then a defense attorney gets a client which completely exhausts them. I don't like defense attorneys at all but I actually feel a little sorry for this one.

Jeana, did you notice on the side bar the aritcle of how the defendent needs a barber? Now that's important!

I did like the judges' response to letter to gf admissable or not. "I don't know that the law is required to insulate someone from their own stupidity." You can say that a zillion times.

Thank you for the links Jeana.

What beautifull little girls. Brittany is gorgeous and little Kissy was darling.

Social workers must continue to seek to reunite paralyzed stabbing victim Brittney Bergeron with her mother, a judge said on Thursday.

In reaffirming his prior ruling, however, Family Court Judge Gerald Hardcastle also said he has no plans to immediately reunite Brittney with her mother, Tamara Schmidt.

Such a reunification, Hardcastle said, will take place only when Brittney is sure that her mother's home is a safe environment in which to live.

"The judge met with Brittney and confirmed in court today that he was not going to send her home until she believed it was safe to go home," the child's attorney, Steve Hiltz, said Thursday. "I thought it was very positive for her."

The mother of two girls brutally stabbed in Mesquite was sentenced to four to 12 years in prison for child neglect on Tuesday, meaning she will likely not be reunited with her surviving daughter, Brittney Bergeron, before the girl is on the brink of adulthood.

Tamara Schmidt received the prison sentence from District Judge Donald Mosley shortly after Schmidt apologized for leaving her daughters Brittney, now 13, and Kristyanna Cowan, 3, home alone in January 2003 to face vengeful intruders.

Robert Schmidt was sentenced to two to 10 years in prison after he, too, apologized for leaving the children alone.

From January 2008:

http://abcnews.go.com/2020/story?id=6603485&page=1

More than three years after the crime, the Maestas siblings each pleaded guilty to murder. Beau Maestas was sentenced to death but his case is under appeal, and his sister received life in prison; she won't be eligible for parole until she is 65...

An accomplished athlete, [Brittney] has competed in more than 15 states in track and field, and hopes to make it to the Para-Olympics in London in 2012. She doesn't limit herself to track, and has also tried tennis, basketball, swimming, skiing. Last summer, she became a certified scuba diver in the Cayman Islands. "So this damaged, frightened child that we were given to, to take care of, now is this independent, outgoing, spirited young lady," Bill Himel said...

All Brittney wanted was to be adopted. She wrote letters to everyone, including her mother. The case dragged on for years but, after countless disappointments, Brittney's friends and new family gathered in family court last summer, where her wish came true. Brittney Bergeron became a Himel.
