I remember when this happened, but then nothing. Her house was broken into, then 10 days later the same guy murdered her. Not the boyfriend this time.

"Kyla’s slaying remains unsolved despite a door-to-door DNA dragnet of 60 neighborhood men and another 60 men with whom she was acquainted. Police hope tips from the public will help solve the case that seemingly has hit a dead end.
The lead detective on the case, Ron Chalmers, said the suspect’s DNA profile has been entered into the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System. Every week, the DNA profile is automatically compared with DNA profiles across the nation in hopes to link crimes. So far, there have been no matches, he said."

Three and one-half years since my daughter was raped and murdered in her own home, the killer has not been identified, much less brought to justice (ie, death).
A recent story in the Reno Gazette-Journal (2/17/08) reviews the case and again
pleads for any information that someone out there may have to offer.
Here is a link to the article: http://blogs.rgj.com/crime/2008/02/remembering-kyla.html
The article concludes: "
Please, if you have information, give Det. Chalmers a call at 334-2115, or give an anonymous tip to Secret Witness at 322-4900."

Steve - I am so sorry for your loss. Kyla seems like such a wonderful person. I pray that the monster that took her life is soon found.

A short time later, in a video taped interview at the Orange County Sheriff's Office shown in court, he described watching Annan in her yard with friends who lived across the street.

After a day of drinking and drugs, sneaking in through a window, then fleeing when he awakened Annan and Miller. then 10 days later returning, sneaking into her home and confronting her.

Francisco Ojeda was sentenced on:

From:

Ojeda v. Royal

United States District Court, District of NevadaJan 17, 2025
1. Petitioner Francisco Merino Ojeda's Application for Leave to Proceed In Forma Pauperis (ECF No. 1) is granted

If I understand correctly, perhaps a new trial awaiting.
