''Melonie White left behind a son, who is now 33, her brothers said at the conference Tuesday.
“She was a super kind heart,” Walter White, Melonie’s brother said. “She was just a really nice person. It’s tragic.”

'In August 1994, two men discovered the remains of an unidentified individual on Lake Mead Boulevard near the entrance to the Lake Mead Recreation Area. The area is a short drive to the city of Las Vegas, Nevada. The men were hiking when they made the discovery in a dirt turnout. It was determined that the remains were that of a White female. The woman’s body was found in a wash. She had been dragged to the area. On the following day, the Clark County Coroner’s Office determined that the remains were that of Melanie White. It was White, who was 27 years old, had died by homicide due to strangulation and blunt force trauma.'

''Arthur Lavery, who was born September 7, 1955. Lavery grew up in the Las Vegas area. He was 38 years old when he murdered Melanie White. Arthur Lavery died in 2021.''

More than 30 years after the murder of 27-year-old Melonie White, forensic genetic genealogy helped identify her killer, police announced Tuesday.

''LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Local law enforcement agencies are saying this nonprofit has been instrumental in solving cold cases throughout Southern Nevada.

If you've been following cold case murder investigations, you may have heard of the Vegas Justice League.

On Wednesday, the League will be handed the Key to the Las Vegas Strip by Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft and Metro police for their role in solving cold case murders through DNA test funding.''

This is not to correct you because the second article misspells her name, but this is a local case for me. Her name is legally spelled “Melonie,” with an “O.”

“We’re very very grateful for the contributions of the Vegas Justice League whose donation for DNA testing by the police allowed the police to crack the case," said Jason White, the younger brother of Melonie.

“It’s nice to have closure on this," said Walter White, another brother of Melonie.

The 30-year-old cold case came to a close as Metro identified the suspect as Arthur Lavery, who resided in Las Vegas in 1994. Police said Lavery died in 2021 due to complications from COVID-19.''

''On a hot August day in the Nevada desert, two hikers find the body of a young woman about 20 miles east of Las Vegas near the Gypsum Wash in Clark County. The next day, August 28, the Clark County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 27-year-old Melonie White. Her death is listed as homicide due to strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head and police say she was also dragged behind a car before her body was left in the desert. Melonie and her infant son moved to Las Vegas with her boyfriend four months earlier from Phoenix, Arizona. But the boyfriend doesn't get a job and leaves Melonie alone with her baby in Las Vegas. Police investigate the case but fail to develope a viable suspect and the case turns cold. Joseph Scott Morgan will explain how the case that went unsolved for 30 years has finally been solved with DNA, gentic genealogy, and Othram.''

Hi - I've got to vent about something. Lt. Jason Johanssen said at the press conference, talking about the Gypsum Wash where Melonie was found, "she had been dragged there from what we believe was a car." This does NOT mean that she was dragged behind a car - and the police report (which I have) never once mentions dragging behind a vehicle. Lt. Johanssen's words have been misconstrued to mean that Melonie was pulled behind a vehicle, and this was not the case - she was driven to that location in a car, and then dragged by a person to where she was dumped at the bottom of the wash. Multiple podcasts have irresponsibly aired episodes talking about the dragging and the impact on a body and all that. Melonie's case is horrible of course, and I am so happy the police saw her case through, but she was not a dragging victim and her case should not be sensationalized as such.
Rant over!

Quite right! rbibm.
''Police believe she was dragged from a car into the washed area, strangled and killed by blunt-force trauma.''
