UPDATE: Police investigating missing person case after kidnapping report | KLAS

Reports suggesting a possible kidnapping have prompted an investigation into the whereabouts of 22-year-old Lesly Palacio, according to a Las Vegas police statement. A kidnapping has been ruled out.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a missing person case involving Palacio. Police said on Tuesday that Palacio could be going through severe emotional distress and in need of medical assistance.

Palacio has been missing since Aug. 29. She has two tattoos — one on her left arm of a zodiac sign and a butterfly on her back.

Patrol officers took a missing person report on Aug. 30 when the family was unable to contact Palacio.

22-year-old woman from Las Vegas reported missing

Palacio's family posted on social media that she was last seen near the Longhorn Casino on August 28. She is described as a Hispanic woman with blond hair and brown eyes.

Las Vegas family desperate for answers in the disappearance of 22-year-old woman

Around 4:40 a.m. Aug. 29, Lesly sent a text indicating she needed to speak to Karely about some important matter.

Moments later, her sister answered but the messages indicated they were not received.

"It looks like she was typing and I just stopped and she didn't reply back for like an hour so I tried calling her and her phone was off so I find that really weird because she never does that she always has her phone on she's always in contact," said Karely Palacio.

The sisters say they tried using technology to track Lesly's phone, but it has been off since last week.

A recent Instagram log on showed Lesly's account was pinging in the Los Angeles area.

Yes we have to be careful. All I can say after reading those comments is someone get me a friend like that searching for me if I go missing. She is shouting it loud and clear from the rooftops so to speak.

Also interesting that the news media is tweeting this request. And that LE is behind it. Worried that there is potential for crossing state lines if this is a trafficking case--would they need to bring in the FBI?

This article still is not naming names, but does say authorities say Lesly left the Longhorn casino with “a man in a white truck.“

I think this article has it wrong where it says the mom received a text from Lesly; wasn’t it her sister? Regardless of that, a couple of new things reported here:

The family received an anonymous threat asking for money for Lesly’s safe return. The police investigated it and deemed it false, however.

The family also found a neighbor “in an area where they live” (Bianca the reporter said) who said they heard someone was yelling for help that day. The family then found another neighbor who had surveillance video they viewed and did see what looked like some sort of struggle, but that it was dark and hard to make out.

I am impressed by Lesly’s family. They are working hard to find her!

Police said they received reports that Palacio had been kidnapped, leading to a second incident report. Detectives said they have since ruled out kidnapping but the missing persons case remains open.

Body of missing 22-year-old Las Vegas woman found near Valley of Fire

Las Vegas police said they found the body of Lesly Palacio on Wednesday near Valley of Fire State Park in Moapa Valley.

The cause and manner of her death will be released by the coroner's office, police said.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, detectives have identified Erick Rangel-Ibarra as the suspect in her death and will be pursuing a warrant for his arrest for a murder charge.
