"I don’t know why they were packing their stuff, that looks really suspicious. If your son is missing you should be cooperating with us, you should have the same pain that my mom is having right now,” said Kaly Palacio.

UPDATE: Las Vegas Metropolitan Police confirmed on Thursday that Jose Rangel is the father of Erick Michel Rangel-Ibarra. The location of both men is still unkown.

Erick Michel Rangel-Ibarra was named as a suspect in the disappearance of Lesly Palacio reported on Aug. 30.

Arrest warrant issued after missing woman found dead

Erick Michel Rangel-Ibarra, 25, is facing counts of murder and destroying and concealing evidence, court records show.

A warrant was also issued in the case for 45-year-old Jose Antonio Rangel. He is being sought on one count of harboring, concealing or aiding a felony offender (being an accessory after the fact), and one count of destroying and concealing evidence, according to court records.

Missing Lesly: Family struggles to cope with death of beloved daughter

Palacio’s remains were found Sept. 9 in a desert area about 50 miles north of Las Vegas, about a week after Metro Police said they suspected foul play in her disappearance and announced that homicide detectives were investigating.

Erick Michel Rangel-Ibarra, 25, is wanted on a murder warrant, and his father, 45-year-old Jose Rangel, is sought for allegedly concealing the crime. They are longtime acquaintances of the family.

Official information hasn’t been released on how they were connected to the killing or how Palacio died. Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo told KLAS-TV on Wednesday that detectives believe the suspects fled to the U.S.-Mexico border, and suggested that federal agencies were helping track them down.

The case has garnered widespread attention, including from hundreds of people online who have flooded the family with encouraging notes like #justiceforLeslyPalacio. Added media coverage of the slaying has mostly focused on the alleged killer and the family’s indescribable pain.

Jose Antonio Rangel, 46, is behind bars at the Clark County Detention Center, and authorities believe his son Erick Rangel, aka Erick Michel Rangel-Ibarra, remains in Mexico.

Officials had no further information on the son, who was 25 at the time the crime was committed.

Authorities believe the son killed Palacio, and the two men moved her body from Erick Rangel’s residence. He was seen helping her into the home just after 6 a.m., and the two men took her body out to the back of Erick Rangel’s Ford F-150 pickup less than two hours later.

Surveillance video showed Erick Rangel-Ibarra, 25, and his father, Jose Rangel, 45, dragging Lesly Palacio’s lifeless body from the younger man’s home on Aug. 29 and placing it into a pickup truck, Chief Deputy District Attorney John Giordani said.

As Rangel left the home, his father stayed and cleaned up, while the younger man called a friend, asking for gas and saying, “I killed a b—-h and I can’t be seen on video surveillance buying gas.”

Palacio’s body was found in Moapa Valley near Valley of Fire State Park in September, according to court records.

Palacio was last seen by family when she went to get drinks with Rangel-Ibarra on the day she was killed.

Video shows a man, whom prosecutors identify as Rangel-Ibarra, helping a woman, identified as Palacio, get out of a truck parked in front of his home on Tipper Avenue on the east side, court documents said.

Erick Rangel-Ibarra is the main suspect in Palacio's murder. His father, Jose Rangel, pleaded guilty in 2021 to destroying evidence and accessory to murder. A judge sentenced Rangel to two years in prison, but he was released after serving less than nine months. Markarian said his whereabouts are now unknown as well.
