What do you think of this UID?The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)
A fisherman was fishing near the South Tower of the Golden Gate Bridge when he heard a splash. When he looked over he saw a the subject lying in the water. He recovered the subject and transported him to the United States Coast Guard Station at Fort Point.

Age 18-35
Brown hair to shoulders and a moustache
5'11 - 137lbs

Tan raincoat (similar to a "London Fog"); light blue Levi sports jacket size 38R; gray Levi corduroy slacks size 32; white jockey shorts size 30; light blue short-sleeved dress shirt collar size 14 and 1/2; black tie with blue stripes.

This UID doesn't have any rule outs listed.

My goodness! That really could be him. Martin has only been added to NamUs this month so there wouldn't be any ruleouts as of yet.

Definitely submit this match.

So I sent it both to the Medical Examiner's Office in San Francisco where the UID was found and to Las Vegas Police Dept where Martin went missing from. I put read receipts on both emails to see if they read it. I am not holding my breath about hearing back from either, but I am hopeful they will look into this.

I received an email back from the Las Vegas Police Dept!!!
Thanks for your tip reference these two cases. I have reached out to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in San Francisco for additional follow-up.

That was quick! I'm not surprised though, this looks like a really good match IMO.

I have sent so many possible matches in over the years and so many times I never hear a word back. It drives me crazy. I think sometimes since we are "internet sleuthers" and not detectives or law enforcement, we aren't taken seriously.

So I heard back from the Las Vegas PD. They spoke with the San Francisco Medical Examiners office. They don't have any information from the UID where they can make the comparison between the two!

This makes me so sad!

Oh no. I assume San Francisco must have either lost the remains or never obtained any DNA or dentals at the time. It really sucks considering Eugene very likely could be this John Doe.

Martin was only added to NamUs recently so i wonder if his family had him added? Maybe they can give there opinion whether this John Doe might be him or not.

Yeah I am wondering what happened to the remains... I matched the Cynthia Day Case back in 2010 - it took them until last year for the family to get her remains back. The University of Texas couldn’t find them - they were in a box somewhere and then they tried to extract DNA from the bones once they found them and they couldn’t . When they first received Cynthia’s remains they boiled her bones to see if they had strike marks... I feel so bad for these families.

I didn't know you made the positive match for the Cynthia Day case! I do remember that they boiled the bones and they only ended up identifying her based of an overlooked fingerprint on the box where her remains were placed. I hope there is some way LE can try and make an identification or rule out in this case.

I did. I became FB friends with her family and started talking to them shortly after I thought I made the match. Between trying to find dentals, fingerprints etc for Cynthia, it was pure craziness to get her identified.

Martin is my coworkers brother. Marie Sullivan and her cousin are the only living family members left. I stumbled across this site and showed her. She said that they did not add him to this site but she is grateful to who ever did. She is still searching for her brother.
