Missing mother and daughter did not arrive at a cheer competition in Las Vegas. The pair was last seen at approximately 8:00 p.m. at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. They are from West Jordan, Utah, and were in Las Vegas for a cheerleading competition with Utah Xtreme Cheer.

In a social media post, the organization said one of its athletes and her mom did not arrive for competition and could not be reached. “This is not the post we ever wanted to make, but we need the cheer community’s help,” the post read. “At this point, we are extremely worried. Police have been contacted.” She was at practice the night before but didn’t show up for the competition the next morning. Car still in parking lot of hotel.

A flyer identifies the pair as Tawnia McGeehan and Addi Smith. They were last seen Feb. 14 around 8 p.m. at the New York-New York Hotel in Las Vegas.

The team urged anyone with information to call or text 385-985-7249 immediately and to share the post widely.

Anyone who may have seen them or knows their whereabouts is encouraged to contact the family or local law enforcement.

Looks like they were staying at The Rio and the competition was at NY NY. Car in Rio lot and belongings still in room at Rio.

I wonder if they had to Uber from the cheer-leading practices back to their hotel. If so, could they've gotten into the wrong car?

Info: The Rio and NYNY really aren’t close at all, especially without a car at 8pm. The Rio is across the highway and honestly kind of a pain to get to from the Strip. It would really help to know if they drove to NYNY or not, because if they did, you should be able to see when/if they came back to the Rio. Also, NYNY, Park MGM, and T-Mobile all share that big outdoor area, and with the Cardi B concert last night it had to be insanely crowded. Hopefully surveillance can pick them up somewhere. The distance between hotels is really deceiving ,, it looks close, but it’s not an easy walk at all. Anything off the Strip is in no way pedestrian friendly.

A Utah cheer team is asking for the public’s help to find a mother and daughter they say are missing on Saturday February 14.

Tawnia McGeehan and Addi Smith were last seen at the New York-New York hotel.

Police have not confirmed the disappearance.

According to this comment on a KUTV news anchor’s post, Tawnia posted on her FB a little over 13 hours ago with photos & how excited she was for competition.

Agree with everything you said. I’ve been to Vegas a few dozen times over the years, and I walked from New York New York to the Rio once when I was much younger. It’s roughly 2 miles and took 45 minutes. It’s also not at all an area that a mother and child should be walking through alone in the evening hours. Really hoping they didn’t attempt that walk. Lastly, while Rio was once a great property, it has been a dump for years now.

Can you define "dump"? This stood out to me.

This is so alarming. The good thing is that Vegas has thousands of high quality surveillance cameras everywhere. Hopefully one of those cameras picked up something. It's troublesome that their car is still at the hotel because surely the mom would have driven to the other hotel where the competition was being held. No reason for mom and daughter to Uber or walk.

I saw this on Facebook and have concerns for their welfare. You don't travel all the way to Las Vegas to compete and not show up by choice IMHO. Do we know if they drove to the hotel for practice that night, used an uber/taxi or walked? Did they leave at the end of practice with everyone else on the team, or did they leave earlier/later? Were their plans to go back to the hotel, or go to dinner, or hit the town? I imagine the NYNY hotel would have cameras showing them returning - or not? Would the key card tell staff the last time the room was accessed? Did they have a bag with them, and phones, purses etc? What time were they due to be at the competition the next day? Where were the rest of the teammates staying? Was it a hotel chosen for them - as a group maybe? - or did they choose that one themselves? So many questions. I hope they're found safe and well soon.

I cant picture that they walked unless it was to get a bite to eat close by. Is the car at NY NY or Rio? I'm wondering if they made it back to their hotel or was car found at Rio and they made it back there. all disturbing

edit- also Im sure there's costumes and stuff they're not going to walk 2 miles carrying for practice or competition

Dump as in it’s arguably the least desirable resort hotel. It’s not so cheap that people are living in it, but it’s run down and known for very cheap room rates. It’s not all shady characters, as some very budget conscious people will stay there. Totally my own speculation, but I’m doubting a cheer team would stay there. I’m wondering if they booked there as a measure of affordability.
