The Henderson Police Department said on Aug. 7 just before 9 a.m., officers were called out to a house in the 2000 block of Pala Dura Drive about a dead relative. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 47-year-old man dead.
The man was later identified as Johnathan Willette, according to KVVU. He was reportedly found dead by his mother.
When officers arrived at the house, his head appeared to have been severed and was not found in the room, according to KLAS. Officers smelled chemicals that they believed were ammonia and bleach.

Willette's mother told police that he was last with his ex-girlfriend, Michaels, the night before. The mother said she woke up around 1 a.m. and saw Michaels in the kitchen cleaning dishes. Michaels claimed Willette was asleep upstairs, the mother said.
Police spoke with Michaels, who was married to Willette's son to get help with a medical issue. She said Willette was going to move in with her and their two children, according to the arrest report.

Michaels said she hit Willette in the head while he was in bed with a wooden stick because he was abusive to her.
“Michaels stated that she did not want to kill Willette and only wanted to hurt him enough that he would have to go to the hospital because she wanted him out of the way so she could figure out what she could do with her children,” the report continues.
Police asked Michaels if it was possible she killed Willette and did not remember. She said it was “very possible.”

She initially denied the killing, and claimed that she left his home the night of his death. She later admitted to striking him on the head with a wooden stick after refusing his advances, allegedly saying she only wanted to hospitalize him.
She also claimed that Willette was abuse towards her, and alleged that he would have his oldest child take showers in front of him, according to an arrest report obtained by 8News Now. According to social media, it appears that Michaels may have been his ex-girlfriend, and Willette's Facebook profile shows him engaged to someone else.

Police called Michaels in for questioning, and she told them that she didn't live with Willette but were thinking of moving in together for their children.
Their relationship was complicated, however, as she lived with Willette's son, who was not on good terms with his father and was not happy at the prospect of having to move out if he moved in, police said.
Michaels was also married, and told investigators she did not have an intimate relationship with Willette but was only married for medical reasons.
