You're right that it might not be like that everywhere. I grew up in the suburban Midwest, and it was like that here. It might partly depend on who does your rings too, I suppose. But since we don't know for sure what the practice/tradition was at her school, we can't assume the ring stone is definitely tied to the school color, or rule out schools that don't have magenta/red in their school colors. That's what I was driving at, but I probably could have worded it better. And here's a thumbs up for you, lol

I would use as a starting point that it was a HS class ring, 1992 meaning the UID was about 18 y.o. then. add about 5 yrs and that gives us an estimated age of 23.

I realize these experts have some reason for giving the age brackets stated but they are not always correct. there is no reference to any gray hair so I really doubt that the UID is even 35 y.o. as most people have some gray hair at that time.

Hoge Road in Washoe County is in Reno or the immediate northern suburb of Reno. it is not exactly a remote location. someone could have gotten into Reno by way of I-80, killed/dumped her, then gotten back to the highway which is only a few miles away.

robbery was not a motive here as all the jewelry was left with the body. so we have either someone who wanted her dead as in a domestic abuser, or someone who picked her up hitchhiking and then decided to kill her for whatever reason.

I also wondered if a coach would get a ring if say they won a state championship or something....because a coach would wear a whistle around the neck too, you know? So I could see a coach throwing their whistle around their neck as a safety thing if they were going to go hiking or jogging or something too. But if the coach of a state championship team went missing, you think it would be news. We know of no one matching that description.

sounds like something a coach or gym teacher would wear. i remember my gym teacher in HS use to have a whistle around her neck all the time. perhaps this was a parting gift or in honor of them winning for the year or something like that.

McCarran Blvd. in Reno goes right off of I-80 and circles Reno on the N/S/E/W. We lived a block off of N. McCarran when I went to Univ. of Nevada-Reno. Once you get north past McCarran, it is isolated, except by the major N/S highway.

There's only 3 high schools named Oakridge.

One is actually not far from Reno, El Dorado Hills,Ca. 20 miles east of Sacramento. 2 hours straight east on interstate 80? I believe that's what it says hard to read mapquest.

Another in Orlando,FL and another in Oregon.

BTW I deleted my prev post as I think I miss used the word "bears" in the first post. I believe it means the other bears not the animal.

Is it a class ring or not? Class rings are very identifiable.

If it is a class ring, it is most likely HER year of graduation (if it is a feminine ring) making the estimated age incorrect. Or is it a male's class ring?

It certainly is common to use a birthstone in a class ring (at least in the in the states in which I have lived) as well as to use the class colors, but most often, when a birthstone is used, it is in a female's class ring-- so can we confirm it IS a feminine class ring?

Which Birth-Month's stones pull true magenta color? Magenta is a very BOLD Hot Pink/Purple mix. This could also greatly narrow the possibilities-- being that the stone likely identifies Jane Doe's birth month, or at least identifies her school colors (or her bf/husbands school colors)

Oakridge 92-- could only be a few High Schools... this should narrow the pool considerably.

She is described as Native Mixed, and she was wearing both a bolo and dream-catcher earring-- native designs should be traceable.

and the whistle... which type/shape? I sometimes wear a silver metal chain with a silver metal DOG whistle on it (it because I use it to train/call my dogs)

If you go from that area over to Susanville, California and then on up through Klamath Falls, Oregon and go west - you'll hit a nice town called Oakridge. That was the first place I thought of when it was mentioned about the ring.

just an observation. my HS ring was important to me up to the point I graduated college and then poof it was displaced by a more important ring.

I can't say I never wore the HS ring after college but my college ring was much nicer so I had no real reason to wear the HR ring any more.

as for the colors, I recently found my HS ring. the stone was a color consistent with the school color and my college ring was done in a color consistent with my birthstone.

I googled and you can buy them. There are little sterling silver whistles, also native american fancy carved whistles.Maybe they sold them at the Flea Market back then. Those where popular places from what I remember to buy native american jewelry and other neat jewelry items.

I still think if the age is off this could be Terri Fourcher, disappeared around the right time in that location, hair color, height only an inch off, and had family in Ca which could indicate the oakridge hs outside Sacramento or the Oakridge area Kimster was talking about which are only a couple hours from Reno. She was 28 at the time but it could have been a siblings class ring or old BF's ring.

Inside the McCarran Circle, there are houses/neighborhoods w/green lawns and there are businesses. It has a neighborhood feel. Once you go outside of the Circle, it is more sage and scrub. Hoge is off of N. Virginia which is the street that UN-Reno is on. N McCarran and N Virginia intersect just south of this area; it is hillier and, behind that little complex Hoge is in, is the hill where the R for UN-R, Peavine Peak, is located. We've hiked up there and it is not an easy climb. <modsnip: broken link>

N Virginia connects to Virginia where the casinos are and where there is prostitution, It is a distance of less/more than 10 miles. There is also a casino across the street from that area leading into Hoge. Panther St is an East/West Rd not far from there, but again sage and scrub. We lived about a mile from Hoge and our Townhouse area had no lawns/grass.

If this girl were a student, undergrad, grad or post grad at UN-R I'm sure the school would have identified her. UN-R has an excellent self-contained police force on the campus that works with Reno PD. This was before the Brianna Denison murder and the rapes on the campus. That said, James Biela was about 17 at the time this girl was found and went into the Marines after high school. He MAY be a factor, as he lived in the area.

At University of Nevada-Reno, when you first go there, they give you an info packet and one of the things in there is a whistle but it is a purple plastic whistle on a keychain. There are several souvenir shops along Virginia Street, which is about 8-10 mles south of where the remains were located, that have novelty jewelry or t-shirts. Another option is if any of the casinos had a promo at the time and this whistle necklace was a giveaway.

My mother is Terri.
My mother did not attend high school in California.
I was her only family in Oregon along with my birthdad but he has moved, my grandparents are her family in NC. I now live in Idaho.
The only 'family' she has in Cali would be her ex-husbands and they divorced when I was 3 in 1991.
Also, when they find a Jane Doe, DNA is ran through CODIS and my mother's DNA, her birth mother's DNA, mine, and my brother's are all entered and there were no hits.
