A couple things that are interesting to me about MD and the Evening Lights house: despite the fact that it's been stated many times that MD has a criminal record, I haven't been able to find him on TruthFinder at all. However, I have been able to use the EL house as a starting point, knowing it was owned by his parents, to find out a good amount about their real estate history. They are big real estate investors. They have bought and sold numerous properties in NV, FL, CA, and AZ. They paid cash for the EL home in 2005 as new construction for around $405,000. However, they took out two separate mortgages in 2006 and 2007, totaling $350,000.
Before, during, and after this time, they seemed to transfer their various properties to different family members and trusts. MD was noted as an owner on their Pahrump property at one point, and a woman named DD, who I'm guessing is his sister, was an owner on several of the parents' properties as well, along with her husband. The point is, it seems as though the adult kids lived in/owned many of their parents' properties at one point or another.
What I find remarkable about this is that in April 2011, they just let the EL property go. There was an unpaid special assessment or taxes, and the current owners were able to swoop in and buy that house for under $10,000. I know that 2005 was a rough time to buy real estate, but it seems interesting that this one in particular was just gotten rid of in this way.
