I would really like help on the cell phone tower stuff. The problem is that I have 20 pages of "which cell phone towers had his signal", but they're an absolute mess. They printed out funny and I never saw the original to put them back together. When/if I get them cleaned up I will certainly get back to you all.

I also looked at his phone records and sadly they cut of on the 13th for calls and the 12th for texts. I thought the "dog that didn't bark" idea was good, but I don't have the info.

I agree that the Kmart videos would have been nice, but this was over a month ago. We couldn't even get videos from the gas station 2 weeks after. I guess we'll know better next time.

Do any of you have any advice on how to get our family more organized? His parents are so worn out and we can't get things to happen as fast as we'd like.

I've been operating under the impression that the call to Steven's voicemail on Dec 14th was made from his phone. It wasn't?

How to get more organized? I don't know if this is "organized"...but how about more publicity? TV, Newspapers, Online?

Steven's case is different than most.
There's always accusations that the press covers only the "pretty blonde" who disappeared. Maybe it's time this unusual case got some publicity!

Steven's Dad is a newspaperman who can prepare an up-to-date press release. Has one gone out widely? I don't see coverage from anything but LV and SLC media.

I'd really like to see Steven's case covered on America's Most Wanted:
http://www.amw.com/contact/press-media.cfm

After the Yosemite Murders, Carole Sund's family set up a foundation to help families like yours:
http://www.carolesundfoundation.com/

There's always the chance that a mass PR would get noticed here:
http://www.prweb.com

I'd also keep links active on craigslist (Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Amarillo, wherever else you can think of).

Hi all, I haven't posted for a long time but Steven's case has captured my attention. I just want to say that I've never been more impressed than I am on this thread with how devoted all of you are and how it is clear that all of you sincerely care about bringing Steven home.

I think this case may be able to be taken a little further if we were to learn more about Steven as a person. While I was reading through the many pages of this thread, I kept asking myself, Who is this man? We know, of course, that he was bummed about turning 30, being currently unemployed, and broke. But I'm trying to imagine having a conversation with Steven - what was he like? Was he happy-go-lucky? Laid back or more uptight? Generally an optimist or prone to fits of depression? Did he honestly seem like a happy man before he lost his job/turned 30? What were his past girlfriends like? How long were the relationships? Were any of them serious? What was his favorite color? (Ok, JK on that last one, but you get the point.) From the limited information we have, I tend to have an image of Steven as a slightly melancholy loner of a man, generally unhappy with the direction his life was going. I see him as someone who, from the time he was young, had plans to be successful, popular, well-loved, and with a wife and family by the time he was 30 (of course I could be entirely wrong, which is why more information on Steven as a person is requested). However, I wonder, is this what STEVEN really wanted, or was his goal in life to make his family and church proud of him and to live up to others' expectations? Perhaps because not only hadn't he reached this goal but saw himself as not even being close to reaching it, or because he suddenly realized this life wasn't what HE wanted and that's why he hadn't yet succeeded in attaining it, he either had some kind of a mental break or consciously chose to 'disappear' and start life anew somewhere else, a life perhaps different than the one those around him wanted/expected him to have. IDK, but when I look in Steven's eyes in the various photos of him I've seen, I see an insecure man with some kind of inferiority complex. That said, I also see a sparkle in those eyes that to me clearly represents kindness, goodness, and love. That's why I don't think Steven was up to anything nefarious. I don't think he was involved in drugs/car insurance fraud/immigrant trafficking, or any of the other various undesirable activities that have been proposed. I just don't see it. I think his disappearance was caused by an inner struggle about who he was, if he was good enough, where his life was going, etc; the result of an 'early mid life crisis' so to speak.

All of that being said, I do believe Steven is one hundred percent alive. The question is, does he want to be found? At the moment my guess would be no, but until he contacts his family, friends, or LE and tells them that, we can't be sure, and for that reason must keep looking. That's my two cents for now. I had more thoughts, but this post is already long enough. Like I said though, you all are doing an amazing job, putting so much of your time and energy into finding a man none of us knows. You brighten my view of humanity, and remind me that there are still many good people out there.

As it turns out, there are some strange coincidences between the Steven Koecher disappearance and the vanishing of Trevor Morse.

Both men graduated HS in Texas
They had recently moved from the area where their parents lived.

They even looked a bit alike, and were both born in October. They were both 30 when they disappeared.

Both men vanished on Sunday afternoon, one on the far west side of the Vegas valley, and the other east of Vegas in Henderson

Neither man was described as depressed or suicidal when they vanished.

Both men were single.

Both men had left their vehicles to go meet someone (Speculating with regard to Steven). Trevor left his car and called a cab to meet someone.
Both men seemed to be making future plans, such as registering for classes or buying Christmas gifts before they vanished.

Another similarity was that LE did not take either of these cases seriously at the beginning. Trevor Morse's father feels that he was given the brush of by LE; the detective in his son's case told him that Trevor was in a rehab in Caliornia somewhere -- with nothing at all to back it up.

There are differences for sure ; Trevor was gainfully employed and doing well when he vanished, and,as far as I know was not LDS.Trevor went out to a club the night before he disappeared, and I do not know what Steven did on Saturday night ...

But, more importantly, both men were shown in videos moments before they vanished, never to be seen again.

I hope it is okay to post this ; it is a theory. However,if all we can do is sit and wait for tips to come in,we might wait a looong time.KWIM ?

I don't recall seeing one - but is there a thread here on Trevor Morse? We could start one for him and investigate separately - seeing if there are more similarities along the way. But I think we better stay focused on Steven here.

So sad, I've never even heard of Trevor's case. I'm afraid Las Vegas media is sadly lacking with regard to missing persons. :(

OMG. I hadn't heard of that case before....but wow.

I'm reading links right now:
Discovery Network

I'm going to put these links on a new timeline page as a thought-provoking "similar case".

May I use your noted "similarities"? Of course, you'll get total credit.

Naegle~it's so good to have you here. I can only imagine you are exhausted as well. Would it be of any help for you to give us 2 times daily you would be willing to check in? That way we can have an organized list of questions for you. By all means check in as often as you like.

Instead of typing things out would you rather scan them and have us sort them?

So nothing on his computer raised red flags. Is there any way to get a basic rundown of the computer activity he had recently before he went missing? Maybe even just a basic printout of history and we could go from there. Something might spark some interest.

I am no help with the cell tower thing, but I bet someone on here is.

Is there a PI?

Maybe you could use this system with his parents. Get in touch with them twice a day for a Q&A session. Even if its only 5 minutes, you can ask alot in 5 minutes. Even 3 times a day at say 9am, 3pm, and 9pm (just a suggestion)

If we don't have a break before, I'm going to try to take a little trip out to Sun City Anthem this weekend. It's quite a distance from me, so I'm really not familiar with the area. Plus I know it's grown substantially since I last was there. I need to get a better feel for that area. My DH LOVES driving to new areas, so should be easy to enlist his assistance.

I'm not LDS so if anyone can enlighten me on how to determine what wards would be associated with Sun City Anthem, I would greatly appreciate it!

Tell us what you want to accomplish-as a family. Should there be more media attention in the LV area? Sacramento? St George? Is his family willing or have they already submitted DNA (toothbrush etc) and dentals in the event Steven cannot speak for himself? I worked on a case last year where a gentleman was discovered after a hit and run-his closed head injury prevented him from being able to communicate his own name etc...we were comparing him to a missing man from GA although the living John Doe was in Las Vegas...just for example. I have resources in the group of social workers who are GAL's for these kind of folks....right in the Vegas area.

Give us a frame work and then we can break the work up: some of us can post on Craigslist, some of us can write to local media, some of us can continue to try and get in touch with businesses located in the area of where Steven was caught on video.

I have often wondered how you guys do the organizing part. It seems to me that that would be one of the hardest things to do aside from coping. I would imagine no one wants to be in charge, they just want their loved one back. I can't function with chaos and I hate chasing my tail. If it were me I think I would ask someone that I trusted outside the family that isn't so emotionally invested to be in charge. I'm sure there is someone from church that would volunteer to do this. I think all information and leads need to flow through one source. Assignments need to be made with deadlines set and then followed up on. All this info needs to be stored in a place where all those involved can access it, like a blog or website. I think each day a todo list needs to be made, prioritezed and assigned and then checked off so things don't get passed up or overlooked.

Just my :twocents:

I think, sadly, that we are wrong to assume LE has thoroughly checked out the residents on Evening Lights who live in the area where Steven disappeared, checked out his car, investigated his friends/roommate, etc. Unfortunately, I think adult missing persons cases, especially in instances where there's no evidence of foul play and it's not clear whether the missing person meant to disappear or not, are not usually a priority for LE. I don't know why, but I get the feeling cases like Steven's are on the bottom of LE's stack of 'things to do', which is why it's even more important for the family to be proactive in their own investigations, and for Websleuthers to keep at it. The thing is, if, like Naegle says, there's no trail or evidence on Steven's cell phone, computer, in his apt, in his car, or among his friends/family/acquaintances, where does one start? Steven could be anywhere, really, and it seems that he left no clues behind at all. Then again, have all of the above been investigated by the P.I.s and by the family thoroughly? It can't hurt to go over all of these things one more time, just in case a clue was missed the first time or someone remembers some new detail. I think something like that would be the best action to take at the moment: go over Steven's phone, car, apt, cell records, friends, etc again just to make sure some small clue wasn't overlooked the first time.

I gave Naegle some information about the cell phone towers. I hope it clears some things up, but I'm afraid the Overton tower information is not what Naegle was after.

Naegle, is it the Vegas cell phone ping you're trying to do the triangle on?

Laytonian,
Don't want "credit" LOL. But, these two cases are .... spooky.IMO. Fairy, all of my posts are about Steven, it is just so weird that both of these men are last seen walking purposefully towards ... someone ? Forgive me, I am a retired analyst, always looking for patterns in all things:)

All wards are broken down into geographic areas based on number of attending members. We all belong to a ward base on where we live.
The following is the address of the building where somone living where the car was found would attend church. It looks like they would start at 1:00.

Here is the bishops contact info.

I hope we can get a handle on the Vegas ping or pings soon. I feel he arrived here late on Saturday night. But there were no receipts or records of purchases in Vegas or Henderson at all. So, where was he and what was he doing before he showed up on that video????

Naegle - do you happen to know what kind of music Steve listens to?

I am willing to send emails to local media, other police depts, local homeless organizations.

Naegle:
I don't see Steven's case on NCMA. National Center for Missing Adults.
http://www.theyaremissed.org/ncma/content.php?webid=register
Family could register Steven's case there.

If the family is ready to donate their dna,
it can be done free of charge, through the LE agency.

I can enter Steven's missing person information into NaMus. NaMus
is used to identify missing persons with human remains that are found.
