I think I just sent you one. I'm new here, no expert. Maybe you have to enable it?
Look up in the right-hand corner of THIS screen, and you'll see something like this:

Welcome, 4BB
You last visited: Today at 06:06 PM

I THINK it'll say "notifications" or something in bold, if you have a private message. Click on that.

I think you have to have made a certain undisclosed (by WS) number of posts before you have PM privileges. It's fewer than 50, because I have 'em. :)

I got the visitor message from you. Are you guys expressing all opinions here?

I just cannot shake why a guy would stop, seemingly with all of these stresses in his life, with plenty of time left before Christmas...at a Kmart and spend $9.42 on 2 Christmas gifts. Does that not strike anyone else as odd?

OK, my very unprofessional opinion: I think the timing of buying the gifts is odd, but not necessarily the amount spent. If he has a large family to buy for and is strapped for cash, he may have been shopping on the cheap.

Yes - all opinions. And no, I don't think it's odd. He's a smart shopper on a limited income!

Whoa, Fairy! ;)

We don't know when the Overton ping was; I'm just saying that IF it was on the 14th, I'd be concerned.

Ok - sorry. I'd be concerned too!

Yes while Kmart has excellent deals I just find it odd. Were the toys, say, board games? Or other games to play in the car? Maybe he was planning on being in his car alot and needed something to do. Maybe whoever he was meeting has children.(not hinting to SP, just brainstorming) I am just curious about how it is known that they were for his neice and nephew. It just doesnt fit. drive, drive, drive, eat, gas up, drive drive drive, stop and buy toys, drive......

Actually nothing fits but maybe...just maybe there might be a tiny clue there

Well, I don't believe we know what was in those packages or if they were tagged for specific kids. Now that I think of it.

The timeline blows my mind too. I think Naigle said the family determined the gifts were for those particular children because they matched the age and gender of each child. They may be convinced, but anything is possible.

Naegle: I just want to add that I respect the family's decison about IHOP and the possible Steven sighting.

I don't find it odd about the Christmas KMart gifts. Steven did not have a lot of money. Maybe he bought books or a board game, as mentioned.

Couple more things before I crawl off into a corner to try to recover from the weekend.

-The trip to Mesquite seems to have gone futher west. There was a ping from Steven's AT&T cell phone on the Overton cell tower which, I understand, is near lake mead? Could someone become a wikipedia expert on how/when cell towers pass different cell phones??

-Travis Hansen (steven's boss) saw him Tuesday the 8th in St George.

-Does Jordan Z (steven's roommate) have family in Vegas as he claims? He made lots of calls to Vegas to "family"

Added Hansen sighting to timeline. Also documented fairy1's visit to IHOP.

I don't know if these are related to Z, but there's a lot of Zs in the Las Vegas area. If you know he made calls, I guess you know the numbers he called?

Was he with someone at Kmart? Possibly meeting in the parking lot and he went in to kill some time? Kmart receipts have a series of numbers for that exact transaction. I've had them look up my receipt and time when the cashier double scanned something. They went right to that exact time using my receipt number and watched what she scanned. (it was a paper receipt, right?)

I don't find much on Zirkle. But I will say family between NV and UT is pretty common.

He'd have purchased gifts for 3 children....and they were his nieces/nephews.
Books, puzzle books, candy - and maybe more gifts were planned.

It ALSO could have been a "signal" purchase, as someone else said.

FASTEDDIE4: I just read your last long post, and you had an idea I think was BRILLIANT: if he had directions to an address, the reason they weren't in the car, is because he needed them to find the address when he started walking. That's a good explanation for "he did have a destination and did have directions, but they weren't in the car."

On Dec 11th at 3:00 Steven is in St. George. On the 12th he is in Mesquite. He is back in St. George on the 12th. At 8:00 he shops at Kmart, and at 10:30 he is home for 20-30 minutes. He bought gas while he was in Mesquite at 4:00, and his cell phone pinged off the tower in Overton. Overton is on the way to Henderson and Vegas.

Did he drive all the way to Henderson/Vegas on the 12th and then come back home? And then go back again to Henderson on the 13th?

Here's how I see the 12th. His cell phone pinged off the Overton tower. He got gas in Mesquite at 4:00. He went to Kmart at 8:00. At 10:30 he is home. That tells me he drove back from Henderson/Vegas on the 12th (probably after driving there that morning).

That's good thinking. I wonder how long they keep their security videos?

That's how the 12th works out in my mind too. One detail that bugs me: if he went back home after Kmart, which I think he did, then why didn't he take the gifts out of the car and leave them in the house if he knew he was coming back to St. George before Christmas? Not a major issue, but it's what I would have done.

I have no idea, but I found out as soon as I got home so my inquiry to my receipt was done the very next day.

We don't know the date of the Overton ping.
But it would tell us if he went all the way into Vegas that day.
Good sequencing. Hope we can get those times!
I need to be confident that the time isn't that on the bank statement, for the Kmart purchse.

His neighbor saw him about 10pm, and he left again at 10:30.

  • #459
So there is no paper receipt for the Kmart purchase? Only a bank statement?

  • #460
Naegle said the Overton cell phone ping was the day that Steven went to Mesquite.
