With that said...what are the rules for posting information? Are we "allowed" to post information we obtained individually through resources we paid for...or does the information have to be "public"?

I say post it. It may actually gets things moving again. I think we have gone over everything and all the infomation ad nauseum that we have been given. It is frustrating at this point. I'm sorry but it is. I'd like to say that will just hang out and lurk but don't know if I can stay away or keep my mouth shut.

It was posted that the family believes it's Steven on the video because his phone pinged in Vegas and his car was found in that neighborhood. That means Nothing. The Christian Newsom trial tells us that. Many cases have told us that. Perps will create a false trail by using a victims car and phone.

Anyone could have been using his phone and anyone could have been driving his car.

I think the family is in the best position to judge who is in the video. They say it is Steven so who am I to second guess what it is they are seeing on the video. They have known him for 30 years, so I would defer to their visual senses. Is someone saying the perps found a body double to park a car on a public street when no one even knew there was a camera around?

Come on people. I know everyone is trying to be helpful but I think energy is being wasted on this issue.

Did he by any chance have help getting his previous jobs? Did a relative know anyone? Were people particularly protective of him? Was he maybe treated like he was younger by his loved ones? I'm just wondering if maybe he moved to try and create a little distance. Maybe he wanted to prove that he could "make it on his own" get a job on his own, live in an apartment without people's help. This whole situation could've really hurt his pride. I know it's been mentioned that his mom said he was irritable towards her when she brought the money situation up.

Respectfuly snipped. Hid dad is editor at one of the papers he worked for. Dad also may have ties at the SL Tribune (as a former newspaper gal myself, this wouldn't be unusual).

I'm with the some others of you that feel the momentum is dying down here, and unfortunately, until we get some new info, I'm probably just going to lurk for a while. You guys are so great, though.

Until more is known about the IHOP guy, I too think things are slowing down and I personally don't think we are going to get any more info from things like receipts and cell phone pings that are already known.

Update on some searching I've been doing:

Steven has a BA in Communications. He likes traveling. He was job searching. He loves his church family. Therefore, I'm sure he enjoyed discussing these topics. Craigslist has a discussion forum under every state and country.

With that in mind. I decided to go to the discussion forums on craigslist and search the name "Steve" or "Steven" in the following cities. SLC, St.G, LV, & Sacramento. It does go back a year and some of them even more. I chose the topics that I thought Steve would have gone to (self-employment, travel, religion, job market). Yes, it is a lot of reading, but I enjoyed it. I did this for about an hour last night.

However, I think it is worth trying. I haven't found anything significant as of yet. I just started. If you are family and friends of his this could be a useful tool.

Let's keep trying to help bring this wonderful man home! :book::book::book:

Maybe Steven is developmentally disabled?

I want to thank those of you who have gone above and beyond to try and sort this out.

this would not be the first time by far that family wants to cherry pick the info to maintain their own privacy. As in most cases when this is what is going on, we reach a standstill.

Another thing to consider is that we are taking for granted that the environment Steven would be going back to is one where he would be protected and cared for. Perhaps Steven, in the end, has good reason for leaving. Maybe Steven is happy where ever he is right now???

One problem here is that information is being dribbled out one peice at a time to the forum. Each new piece of information causes us to go off on a tangent, trying to shoehorn the new piece of info into the puzzle. IMHO it would be better to display all of the known information at once .
Webrocket : I find your posts to be insightful, but do you think it is possible that Steven's family so wanted to think that's him in those videos that they just went with it ? Without a higher resolution video,or a more revealing video, perhaps we should not take anything for granted ? Laytonian wrote that there are 7 cameras at that house ; it would be so useul to be able to look at other videos, other shots of the person heading for Evening Lights Avenue. Or to at least be told what is on those videos.
JBirddinky, the personals ad that you posted : big problem is that the Steve in the ad states :" Will pay for everything ."

Naegle, I am praying for your family now. I truely hope Steven is found alive and well. However, I do not feel that an aggressive search is being done by the family for whatever reason. I do not see any informative posts on the facebook account. So many things are unanswered and so much evidence has been overlooked.
It seems to me that someone...somewhere is dropping the ball. (not saying you) I would love nothing more than to help your family. We are all here spending our own time helping because we want to.
We can't help you unless you help us with more information.
While I truely believe in the power of prayer, it has not brought Steven home thus far. Passing out flyers and sitting back waiting for the phone to ring is most likely not going to yield many results. The investigation seems far too lax. If Steven, for whatever reason, does not want to be found then he will make this search difficult and therefore requiring an aggressive search effort.

Please let us know if you'd like our help.

Hi all. I am new here, but I have read up on both of these extensive forums regarding Steven. I first heard of his story when a friend of mine from high school invited me to the facebook group, and have followed his story closely since then. I found WebSleuths yesterday and was totally engulfed in the ideas you guys have come up with; it's amazing.

Because we are kind of at a standstill, I have started of thinking of other ideas. Maybe Believe is right and Steven is happier away from Utah and his family. If he is the man at IHOP this doesn't really fit the bill, but it could be that he was happier whenever he was on Evening Lights and something went totally awry (like Web has discussed) and now he is homeless in LV and hanging out at IHOP in the middle of the night. Perhaps he really is gay, was attempting to run away (or just explore his desires) by traveling to Vegas/Henderson pretty often in the past few weeks. It is possible that he decided LDS is not the religion for him and that could correlate with homosexuality as well. This might also semi-explain (or at least lean towards) the fact that Greg Webb has been this ominous figure with no real explanation to how he fits into the picture. He is, in fact, the man pictured with Steven's poster in front of his house; why was he the one chosen to do this? He must have been really close to Steven. And if Steven was having trouble with his faith or his sexuality, maybe he confided or even shared this problem with GW. This would explain the fact that Webb essentially "covered" for Steve with church (still in ? I think) and by "explaining" his phone call to Steven.

Perhaps questioning his faith and homosexuality aren't the exact demons Steven has been dealing with, but I think it's clear that he is dealing with demons in some manner. If he thought he was going to Evening Lights to explore whatever it may be, he would walk there with purpose and be excited to do this. If it were something his family would disagree with, the chances that Steven (deep down) disagrees with his choices are huge. Whether or not he has had a break from reality or he is just struggling deeply with whatever addiction, gambling problem, homosexuality, the possibilities are endless.

Oh, the other thing I just thought of...why have we still not confirmed or denied that he took his birth certificate and other important documents with him? Why is this information being withheld along with the information about GW?

hat
That is what confuses me...we get all these details about receipts that really mean nothing, but the important things we get nothing. Does that mean we are smarter than LE? I would really hate to think that.
Do we know who is handling this? LV or St. George police?

I think Naegle is doing the best she can, but she may be going a different direction than a family that is protective and/or resigned to an outcome. Without the "one thing" that the family does not want to reveal, I agree we're hampered.

The passport/birth certificate: if Steven carried the traditional "planner", all of those items might be inside of it, carried with him all the time. I know men who keep everything in one, including their credit cards, driver's license, passport, phone books, daily journal. IF the man at IHOP is protective of a Franklin-style planner, it's likely he's an ex-LDS missionary, and could be Steven. If that case is something else, it's not so much a clue.

One receipt says nothing; several help fill in a narrative.

I'm willing to keep the timeline going IF more pieces of the puzzle come out. But yeah, this is a standstill.

Good morning. Lots of frustration here today :(

It's possible the family has something more to go on due to our discussions here. That would be great.

I'm going to continue driving by the Flamingo/Boulder Highway area & others that make sense to me looking for Steve until someone in the know tells me I'm wasting my time or until a better lead comes our way. Can't hurt anything.

As far as theories go, I just don't know what else there is to discuss.

  • #634
Totally agree and still supportive of the family. This is their decision, be it one we would make or not. I am more than willing to take some time away from my own family to help but I hate to feel like I am wasting precious time. Seems like so much precious time has been lost already.

  • #635
Hey all,
Maybe the family is really holding back just that one thing. Maybe they're as stumped as we are. Maybe LE isn't telling them much either. Who knows, maybe Naegle is just honoring the families wishes or LE instructions - we don't know. But I agree with you - it feels like this is a stand still for now. I'm going to keep lurking & hope that something will be brought to light. Naegle - I'll keep praying for the family & for steven that he will be found alive & safe.

Steven's case has brought a number of awesome new posters to WS and I'm sure I speak for many when I say I hope you will stick around and consider working other cases if your heart is set on taking a break from this one.

While we await more news on Steven, please offer your impressive sleuthing skills and creative ideas to other missing persons cases - there are so many!

:blowkiss:

I've been busy at work, and just caught up, and don't really have time to stick around.

I just wanted to point out that Naegle indicated she was withholding that one piece of information because she doesn't know who's reading here. I took that to mean that it refers to a person that Steven knows, and they may be on the forum.

Personally, I don't blame her for holding that information.

I have said this exact thing about ten times if you read my posts. This explanation makes the most sense to me. Maybe coming from "new" eyes, will have an affect on the family.

Maybe it's possible we do know just about everything. I watched the Vegas news piece last night (that originaly aired a week or so ago) and Steven's parents say on it that they are stumped and at a standstill.

I agree, if we knew that we have helped in ANY way I think that would persuade yourself and others to go on. BUT, I think that needs to be stated by someone "involved" in the investigation so that this just does not become a Thread someone uses to write a novel someday...because that might not be a bad idea. ;-)

With that said...does anyone read the magazine "WIRED"? They let one of the writers disappear and readers were supposed to try and find him. He "disappeared" in Vegas, and wrote about how he did it. No cell phone, dumping his car... Many of the things he did are similar to what Steven has done. I would be interested to know if he reads that magazine. HAHA I know I am stretching, but my husband suggested it last night and really it actually made more sense than a pot smoking housemate taking him on heroin runs.
