There was something that I personally did do about six months after Steven was missing. I personally researched the neighborhood to see if there was anyone on Evening Lights who had any kind of employment agency and there was one house that did place people for some kind of technical jobs. I got the phone number of the person on Evening Lights and called them. I asked a couple of questions about employment and the man became immediately defensive and suspicious. He sounded so upset that I ended the call, and unfortunately I did not keep the information on the person whom I spoke with, but I could probably look it up again and find out. I wonder if the police spoke to them. From the best of my memory the man lived at the end of Evening Lights and specialized in placing technical people in a specific area of employment. He absolutely did not sound like he was over 55 either. Souned much younger like maybe 30.

Upset? As in mad because people keep calling investigating or upset because he is guilty?

I am glad you are back gsmith. :)

I agree substantially with what you posted. I leaned toward the job scam thing early on and I am willing to admit it if I am wrong to have given it up. I think he still alive. I think he abandoned his car.

But what you wrote makes very, very good sense.

One question- If Steven is still alive, would he have stayed away from his family after his father died?

I don't think he would have stayed away in the first place.

I think this case has become so confusing because we're assuming Steve is someone he's not. He loved his family, he wouldn't hurt them this way. He wasn't selfish.

I think someone contacted him in St. George, perhaps while he was out passing out fliers. I imagine someone gave him an application with a map on the other side. He would have needed directions to evening lights.

If he's still alive I would think he's a slave. It is unusual, but he's blonde and Vegas isn't the friendliest town.

Why lure him to Vegas though? Maybe because so many dissapear in Vegas and he'd just become one of the many.

My mind and emotions can't get over the finding of the passport months after he was reported missing. Especially since this was supposedly the "secret" the family was holding back per N.

I mean, really, think about it. Your child is missing. Yes, it would be very hard to go through their personal belongings, but if those belongings could give you one tip or clue to maybe finding them.....I'd still be up and going through them page by page and piece by piece...reading everything on both sides of the paper. His siblings or other relatives could have gone through them if the parents were that upset. Just doesn't add up.

Why would he need a passport for a job application? Was he thinking of applying abroad? I don't think you need a pp for a governmental job? You would have to pass the security clearance first.

If he was thinking of getting out of Dodge, he wouldn't be taking his laptop, cell phone, etc, because of the trace capabilities. Guitars can be replaced....with better ones. Don't think that was a "must".

Just too many oddities in the way this whole case has been handled and investigated. And a family member reminding us here they had the authority in this case...along with tips going to FB rather than LE was my first clue.

Passport and trip to RV doesn't fly with me....nor the phone conversations on the 13th. No matter how you turn or flip it. JMO

I think he out there and I think he's ok.

Look up SK on any people finding website.....who are the relatives listed?

Yeah they aren't perfect. They may have made mistakes in the search and perhaps there is still information buried in a stack of papers. However they are very nice people.

He had no reason to dissapear. He shared bank account info with his fam because he was close to his family.

Explain why he answered his phone that Sunday morning? I imagine GW didn't ask follow up questions about Steve's trip because they weren't that close. He didn't want to pry. Steve didn't have any close friends down there else we'd know why he went to Vegas.

Gsmith: I am a fairly new poster here. I'm so sorry for what you and Steve's other friends and his family have been through. In reading these many, many posts, one of the obvious things that comes across so clearly is that Steve was a deep and serious person with many wonderful qualities. Reading about him I can tell how everyone would miss him. In some ways unremarkable; in others, quite remarkable.

I've read just about everything here at least once and some things many times. Initially, considering just the (early) facts of the case, my inclination was to say he probably voluntarily disappeared. Now that I've learned more about him personally, though, I'm inclined to think that although he may have been low, even quite low, considering his employment and single status, especially with Christmas approaching (Christmas can be very, very difficult for single folks!) he more likely than not met with foul play.

I guess one question I have, although it's as difficult to consider as the alternative, is whether or not the family's been given any indication as to whether the "Las Vegas Underground" can at all be effectively explored, especially by PI's/LE. Also, I'm wondering if the family has been given any updates, even maybe very small ones, that would help other folks to perhaps do some looking on their own.

My prayers for Steve and all of you.

Also - I'd say the person on Evening Lights advertising placement for technical positions, who became upset during the phone call, is VERY INTERESTING. And I'd bet a few dollars he isn't there anymore.

I truly believe they are a very nice family and loved SK very much. No, no one is perfect nor a perfect parent...we all are human. I just have my doubts about many things in SK's disappearance. I have no idea what the conversation was with people on that Sunday morning, but I don't think it went down as we have been told.

I don't mean to get anyone upset, but that's just the way I see this case.

If Steven is ever found to be a victim of foul play I'll sign off of WS for good...because as I think Webrocket said, I will be so far off the mark I'd be in shock.:banghead:

I am leaning towards him going to the Vegas area to find work, it just seems to make the most sense to me.

I searched the jobs section on Las Vegas Craigslist using Sun City in my search and quite a few jobs popped up. I know that it has been over a year since Steven disappeared, but I wanted to see what kind of jobs would be advertised for that area. Of course, being a community for older people, there were quite a few listings for care givers. A couple of job listings in SCA grabbed my attention:

1. Cleaning foreclosed homes – Given the economy, perhaps this is the kind of work that lured Steven to SCA. Not a lot of qualifications/experience necessary, probably a good way to make fast cash.

2. Canvassing neighborhoods for window/door replacement company – The company looks for clean-cut, friendly, outgoing people to canvass neighborhoods looking for homes that need window/door replacement. Since Steven already had experience in handing out flyers for window washing, this type of work wouldn’t have been a big stretch for him. He would definitely be type they are looking for and SCA, being a nicer neighborhood where people have money, it seems SCA would be a good location to do this. Perhaps the folder he was seen holding in the video was a map of houses/streets he was supposed to canvass. Makes sense to me.

I also checked the Craigslist job postings in St. George looking for jobs that require people to travel to the Las Vegas area. Nothing came up, but there were jobs that would require traveling such as delivery, door-to-door sales, day labor.

I still can’t figure out how this ended in foul play. Personally, I have dismissed suicide or voluntary disappearance. I think if he killed himself, his body would’ve been discovered by now and from what his friends and family have said, it really doesn’t sound like he’s would disappear on his own and not contact his family, especially now that his father has passed away.

Sorry folks -I haven't learned how to quote a portion of a message yet. In my previous message re: searching the LV "Underground" I think I said that wrong. What I mean is that should SK have been abducted and is being kept somewhere, can the seedy underworld at all be plumbed for signs of him? Is LE or a PI likely to try to track him this way. Perhaps I've been watching too much TV ("Taken" comes to mind) but it's just a thought I've had.

I think any theory is worth exploring, and while I am unfamiliar with a trade in men of SK's age, never say never. I dont know if the PI or family has explored this avenue...I will leave that to others to answer.

It is good to know that the reason SK had joint accounts with his family members was because of closeness, not dependance. For me, it begs the question then on why he didnt ask his family for the nominal amount of money he needed to square his life away. Rent, utilities and the like. Do you know if he went to the church for help in obtaining a job? Given his devotion, it seems likely that it would be a natural source of possible employment for him.

I agree about exploring all theories, believe. I'm pretty sure if we ever do find out whatever has become of Steven, there will plenty of hat-eating opportunities to go around!

Steven did speak to his church about needing their assistance in finding employment but, because it was so close to the holidays, it was to be put off until the new year. I don't believe he revealed to them his financial situation, but they could have assisted him there as well.

When I first heard that my friend steve had disappeared, I just assumed he was killed by some bad people. That was my first thought. After viewing the TV show and having thought about it for over a year, I have to agree with my first assessment.

My opinion:

He was there for a job and it turned out to be a scam.

My reasoning:

1. He spent over $100 on gas driving a thousand miles, his car was found with a half tank. He couldn't afford rent but all of a sudden he has all this cash for gas. New promising job, no?

2. He wasn't trying to dissapear, he answered phone calls and told people where he was.

3. He always seemed to take his religion seriously, it wasn't an act. I believe he'd move back home before being a drug runner. He attended the temple. In my experience, people begining to do immoral activities don't go out of their way to attend the temple.

4. GW told him on that Sunday morning: "do what you've got to do". I believe he meant: "good luck finding a job even though it's the sabath. You're so desperate, it's ok".

5. That is Steve in the video. 98% sure. He had a distinctive walk. To fake it, one would have to know steve's walk, be able to impersonate that walk and know a security camera was there to capture the impersonation. Not likely.

6. I do recall him taking programming classes before he moved to St George. He also did some web design. I would think he went to Vegas to get or perform a job related to one of his skills. Is it profitable to drive 2 hours to Vegas just to pass out fliers? He didn't pass out fliers to anyone on evening lights.

7. He was forgetful. I bet he was on his way to Vegas and realized he forgot something needed for the job. By this time he had reached mesquite.

8. If he didn't want anyone to find his body, why answer the phone and tell people which city to start looking?

9. He left his car right around 12pm. He had a meeting with someone. It's a nice round number. He didn't just decide to kill himself at 12pm. He could have done that earlier that morning.

10. He was in Vegas earlier that day. What was he doing? He must have had face to face contact with someone, else the police would have found an electronic clue. How did he know how to get to evening lights? Why didn't he go there ealier?

11. He was very naive and extremely friendly. Prime target for evil doers.

12. If he had some homosexual relationship or homosexual tendencies, there would be some electronic evidence somewhere on either his phone records or computer. If this were the case, the family would know this privetly. The family had us searching buses and fields. It doesn't seem they know anything about a possible homosexual connection.

13. Assuming he wasn't drug running. I bet the wendover drive was in efforts to see that gal pal and nothing more. He was trying to resolve any relationship potential before getting a job in Vegas.

14. He had resumes all over the trunk of his car. He told me, when working the fedex graveyard shift, that he had submitted 40 resumes with no luck. He wasn't a quiter. I send out 5 resumes and call it good.

15. Look at the list of movies he checked out from the library. I do believe one was a movie on Pistol Pete Meravich and another was about Pioneers. Who watches inspirational movies such as these and then kills themselves?

16. Would the bad guy have Steve park his car near his house or just some random place? If the bad guy is well aware of electronic giveaways (email, phone records), wouldn't he turn off Steve's cell phone and purposely turn it on near a freeway entrance. It may seem far fetched but no one knows what happened to Steve. Someone was smart enough to fool us all and I'm pretty sure it wasn't Steve.

Let's just assume that someone hurt him. Who did it, what was the motive? If he was a victim, it is worth our time to find out who did it so justice can be served. If he wasn't a victim. He chose to hurt his family. He chose his path.

Great to "see" you gsmith! I agree with many of your points here. When you break it down point by point, it's pretty easy to address them logically. It's when looking at all the pieces in totality that it starts getting muddy for me!

Until recently, I have resisted the idea of Steven being lured here and harmed. Maybe just wishful thinking but besides that, it just never made any sense to me - for many reasons. IF that is what happened, I do feel it began with a face-to-face interaction with someone in St. George - or elsewhere in Utah. And I absolutely agree, if he was killed, the person or people responsible need to be found.

Many of us aren't wedded to any particular theory. I think some explanations are more likely than others, but I can't see that evidence rules out any explanation. I'm willing to change my mind to accommodate new evidence.

We have many theories. However, if we look at the big picture and list every little detail, I believe the "looking for job/victim" scenario fits best.

What is so special about Vegas over St. George in all the other theories? He could have disappeared in St. George, he could have killed himself in St. George, he could have left his phone in St. George and gone to the "Vegas Underground". He also could have left St. George without anyone knowing to meet a so called "forbidden lover" in Vegas.

The only thing St. George lacked for Steve was a good job.

Google showed me something new last night (ie, it hadn't shown up before when I searched for Steven's email address) -- CourseHero.com, regarding a gaming project.

Fall 2009.

Is this "our" Steven?
He was supposedly not a gamer?

Or...is this a one of those fake sites that pops up?

I can shed some light on this. From the looks of it I believe it to be notes on a school project for learning flash animation. Tweening is most commonly used as a term to describe how many motion frames there are between static images. Thats the easiest way to put it in layman terms. It most likely refers to a macromedia flash game he was creating for a school project. Probably part of learning flash for website training. (I recall reading he had some automatic charges to his CC after his disappearance. for websites he built for customers, so this fits)

I downloaded the file and right clicked it, then selected "properties"
Selected the details tab and got some file info seen below

created by user "labuser" (sounds like a computer lab at school)
Content Created: 11/16/2004 8:47pm (perhaps when he attended school? Seems to be old and irrelevant to the case)

The website seems to be a file sharing site for students everywhere to use as sources for papers and projects. My guess is Utah.cc shares all files left on their lab computers with coursehero.com.

I also want to share a sleuthing technique that people may not know.

Tax assessors offices of most counties or cities depending on size have an online resource called GIS. It allows you to view interactive maps of land parcels and see who owns them, when they were bought or sold, how much was paid, and usually gives a contact address. Figured some of you die hards could use this tactic to look a little deeper into neighborhoods and also perhaps contact locals without door knocking.

You should be able to find these maps via google by searching
"insert City or town name, GIS map"

(BE RESPONSIBLE WITH THIS KNOWLEDGE! Don't go harassing people because you've been sitting at your laptop and convinced yourself they are killers :) )
Henderson, NV GIS comes up as this

I find this GIS easier to use for Henderson
http://gisgate.co.clark.nv.us/openweb/?getParcel=19113899008

Googling turned up this and others, here is GIS for city of
http://maps.cityofhenderson.com/public/zoning/zoning.html

To use GIS maps, zoom in on the area your interested in, select identify from the menu, then click the land parcel.
On the second link you need only click the property

If you use google instead of my link you will also find sex offender maps and other maps in the city.

I can't post in the sleuthing tips area so if this is deemed a good tool for sleuthing perhaps someone can get it added for me.
