Oh for crying out loud ya'll! Let's please try to regroup here.

We need to know what the family came up with in Vegas this weekend and go from there.

I was ready to walk away from this case until the whole Deseret Industries twist came about. That pulled me back in and I'm still in! We have the benefit of some new eyes here. What do ya'll say? What should we be looking at that we haven't yet?

I would very much like to stay involved. I am going to focus my research on possible employment opportunities which I believe that Steven might have explored. After I considered a lot of different possibilities I decided that his focus before he vanished was looking for work. His naivite, and his isolation would have made him very vulnerable. I wonder if Steven had help in getting that first newpaper job ? I also wonder how much he really knew about finding work ? Laytonian mentioned that he seemed to be on a downward spiral with regard to work, and that looks to be so true. Window washing is hard physical work.It is also considered to be semi-skilled work, meaning that it's not as easy as one would think. There's a method to it. So, the fact that Steven was attempting to do this for a living is indicative that he may not have been real savvy about the world of work . Of course this economy does him no favors either......

ITA....I think the trip was about finding work. His boss said he was not working for the window washing business or doing publicity for the business, but would he know about every contact Steven made for business? Did he know Steven walked around neighborhoods handing out fliers?

Sunday is often a day realtors show homes for sale with Open Houses. Could he have been just going to these open houses and talking to the realtors about his business? I know whoever talked to the people in the neighborhood said that there were none of the fliers left, but since soliciting isn't allowed there, maybe he just stopped in at open houses to contact realtors. That may be why he felt he had to miss his church meeting on Sunday, it was the best time to find open houses. It's not the best method to contact realtors, the best method would be to visit their offices, but we don't know if Steven thought like that.

If this is what he was doing, it would make sense that he parked so close to the entrance of the development - he was going to be walking as far as he could all through the development. Either something happened to him along the way or he got so discouraged he decided to drop out of his life for awhile.

There has got to be a reason he was in that neighborhood, we just haven't found the person with the key.

I think someone was invetigating empty houses, houses for sale - did anyone come across any open houses on Evening Lights?

With all of his driving, I am still curious if anyone ever saw him driving a car other than his own, which may point to him doing something else for money.

I'm going to keep checking this thread but absent any new information, I'm not sure I can add anything more to the discussion.

This is what I was trying to say myself...I did not want to give the impression that ANYBODY should give up. I certainly would love to see this case to the end, in any capacity, even just as a reader.

Whoa, I leave and come back a couple of hours later and everyone has crashed and burned? We need a regroup, big time. Whether or not people are criticizing the way we are sleuthing, Steven is the one who matters here. We are doing our best to dissect the details on here, and those who are close by have gone above and beyond (thank you so much, Fairy) to do what they can in Vegas.

The family is doing everything to the best of their ability, as emotionally distraught and inexperienced sleuthers.

We might be short of fresh clues right now, but we are close to hearing from Naegle regarding the trip to Vegas this weekend, and there are still plenty of loose ends worth sleuthing.

Come on people, we can do this.

I see some minor facts on his facebook account that we didn't know:

Lisa Koecher Benson wrote on Thurs at 8:50 pm that they did a credit check and no new cards were found. Trevor Hansen (isn't that his boss?) suggests they check the major cell phone providers to see if they have his name on record.

KC Naegle posted on facebook yesterday at 4:15 pm that the video tape showed the driver of the suv getting out of the suv after Steven passed out of the frame, going into the house, and then coming out awhile later and drives away.

For all who were looking for Trevor Hansen companies, his facebook page shows he is employed by Metech Recycling as a sales rep (since Feb 2008). He looks very young. At least this is the Trevor Hansen that posted on the Help Us Find Steven Koetcher page.

This would have been a great way to drum up some business in a city full of foreclosures (believe09 - is this what you're looking at?). Though I suppose he could have "let his fingers do the walking."

I certainly don't want to offend anyone, but I have wondered if Steven may have been finding jobs "off the books," so to speak. What if he wasn't just leaving fliers, but was actually performing the work on the spot? His employer never would have known and it would have been a way for him to make $$$ on the side, allowing him to move on.

IDK. I keep thinking...."desperate times call for desperate measures." He was 3 months behind in rent and having to rely on help from family. Considering he didn't cash his grandma's check and didn't use the money his folks put into his account, it's possible he wanted to make his own way. If he performed the services for which he was paid, it's not such a bad thing.

JMO.

Should we take this to mean you will not be contacting LV LE?

I'm curious about this too...Believe you stated that you ARE in contact with LE. Does that mean that you are able to get information regarding the case?

Las Vegas? I have been communicating with Henderson.

Well, what do they say? The reported possible sightings of Steven have been in Las Vegas. Has the LVMPD been contacted on those? I got the impression from Naegle that they were involved, but I may have misunderstood that.

I do hope the various investigating agencies are communicating - including the St. George PD.

I thought about "off the books" jobs as well. But it probably wouldn't be window cleaning, as Laytonian reminded me before, he wasn't carrying anything that would be used to clean windows.

No clue if LVPD is involved; Henderson is hoping that we can give them a direction to follow that will help bring him home....they will run all leads and tips that they get to the bitter end.

What can we do that they cannot do? We have time and broadbased skills, plus warm bodies that can spread the story everywhere. As well as speculate what happened....

One of the points you raised was foreclosures being everywhere-these houses are sitting around unused. Around here, people gut their homes for copper and whatever they can sell before they leave. The carpets are a mess for example. So two things spring to mind for me; maybe an enterprising self starter would offer to make some of these properties more presentable to increase the appeal to prospective buyers. Or....lots of empty houses-what about squatters living in them or illegals?

I know that the LVMPD was involved in the first ground search.

There are a number of things a "handyman" type person could do to fix up the foreclosed homes here. People leaving these homes have been known to basically destroy the properties before they go. Though I don't see that happening in the Sun City Anthem community, that line of work could have been what brought Steven to the area, for sure.

Haven't heard much about squatters, but there surely could be some.

Ella's Mom volunteered to go through the threads and pick up questions and answers that have been asked, and are a matter of record.

It's a long page, so I'll give you the link:
http://sites.google.com/site/parallelcooler/home/koecher-html/qa-01

(The summary is thread 1, plus thread 2 through page 23)
At the bottom, she put a "what we don't know" list.

It's good review, and made me think a bit.

I feel like the answer, or the answer that will get us closer to the answer, lies within the unanswered on this list compiled by Ella's Mom (great job). In most cases the unanswered is "unanswerable", where in this case, most of them...aside from knowing someone in the area, should be able to be answered and verified with the same records that have been used to verify other questions.

Access to this information is available to us, only if the family wants us to have it. Without this information, even searching homes in Anthem of foreclosed homes, gives us information that could or could not be important.

These were all questions that I posed to Naegle (for the most part), and she became very frustrated with me. This is the posting where she described her frustration, and how I have no idea how they must be feeling. I TOTALLY understand (without actually having lived through it) she is overwhelmed, and backed off my questioning. BUT, if the point of thread was to HELP, we need that information. SO unless we have another way of getting the information (which I have resources, but none that good), how can this thread proceed with any type of direction...other than following-up on possible sightings?

This is just my current thought process, maybe someone could defend another process that would stir my (and others) interest.

This may have contributed to Steven leaving his job - I located his younger brother on facebook and he has his employer listed as Davis County Clipper. He graduated in 2007. Maybe Steven thought it was becoming too much of a family place? I could see that happening, although he may not even have mentioned it as a reason.

The wonderful thing about this thread is that each of us is from a different walk of life with different ideas. You guys are the most courteous people I know considering the circumstances to your discussions. You are working with facts, sort-of facts, assumptions, pieces of info, etc. Each person takes those and spreads the puzzle pieces out to see if they can at least get the edges filled in. Its going to take a few wrong pieces to get it right.

The truth can hurt....very much, but the truth can also set you free. When my husband went missing, I was embarrassed to admit maybe I had done something to make him leave. We live in a small town and you know how that can be. However, a detective said to me..."we will find out the truth about what happened Mrs. X, but we need the truth to do that" (he was found at TI in Vegas ~ gambling addiction ~ we are no longer married)

We just need help connecting the dots here. If we are to help we need info and we need it fast. Is that a possibility?

I do read every thread, keep up with what is going on, sometimes put my 2 cents in, thank people for their posts, and keep the missing and their families in my thoughts and prayers.
As John Milton said in his sonnet "On His Blindness" "They also serve who only stand and wait."

Here are the owners to all the homes in the immediate area by street. I personally have not looked into the people on all the streets b/c I feel like we can eliminate some...Savannah Springs for example.

Anyway, any home that has been foreclosed on or has a Trustee Sale pending in the last few months, shows a yellow or orange house in the last column. There are very few! And it does not look like any of them are owned by the bank.

I have a spreadsheet of any information I have found on people at these exact addresses...not just where a name matches. I still have a few more to go then I will post. Maybe one of these names will ring a bell with Steven's family or friends.

By all means, all people and their ideas are welcomed here. No one is left out - regardless of their geographical location.

The frustration is normal. Though we often don't have the benefit of "insiders" posting, we do here.

Whatever talents you have, we are all grateful for them. I am standing and waiting - for direction from the powers that be.

Off topic, but not off topic : Believe 09 said something which I find to be profound, and right on. " The world is never as big as when you are trying to find one person in it. "
That statement could apply to many people involved in trying to find Steven. Must be overwhelming for his family. I can't quite shake the idea that maybe he's someplace where he can't communicate with the people he would like to....
