I have mainly been following the threads on www.websleuths.com. Um, they have said that his computer checks out normal.

-------------------------

I don't think anyone here has said anything close to that, have they?

In fact, hasn't it been the consensus here that the computer needs to be forensically scanned by independent experts?

I'm not going to say anything over there, but why would someone (purposely?) misrepresent what's been said here?

I could be wrong but I think I know who this person is on this site. I let Naegle know via a facebook message that this person was saying on the facebook page that they have been following it on here. I was unsure whether or not Naegle wanted to open the flood gates there, but she responded and said she's fine with it. Regarding their account of the laptop, I see foolishness here rather than deliberate misrepresentation.

It could be; now that I re-looked, it's the same person who's been trying to convince everyone that Steven Koecher and Susan Powell ran off together.

Hummm...I guess I need to read more than just the Bishoprics postings on Facebook. I had no idea there was drama over there! LOL

I WISH we had some solid information regarding that though. :-)

Yes, I noticed that quite a while ago. I didn't want to out right say who it was, but I don't think this person has any malicious intentions.

I was wondering if they checked that body of water behind the subdivision where he parked. I don't know why I didn't notice that before...

The houses on Portsmouth Creek have direct access to it.

Three years ago (or more maybe) a women in our community cut up her husband and put him in one of our "little" lakes that we fish in. The divers were able to find most of the pieces, but b/c there was sooo much algae etc., being a rural "drain", they were not able to see anything by air.

A sad thought...but a thought of somewhere to search.

It looks like a combo golf course water hazard and runoff basin. I'd think, if someone's body was in there, it'd have surfaced by now because the weather in that area is relatively warm. That's a pretty good thought, though ....(and sadder), even bodies that are weighted down will eventually decompose and come to the surface.

I'm back. First of all, I realize I need to get out more! The MLK/Craig area is NOT at all what I was thinking. Anywhere on MLK closer into the city is questionable but out this far, not so much. If Steven really has been in that area, I'm not as worried as I was before about it. Ironically, about the only time I go as far north as Craig would be when I'm on my way to Utah!

Anyways - found the Deseret Industries I was looking for. It's actually much farther west of MLK than I thought. There's a huge thrift store/donation center, which is where we went. I left a poster there with the manager and asked her to post it in the back room so all the sales associates could see it. Tried to explain the situation, but she didn't really seem to care. AND, it was clear to me that she had not been approached about this before.

BEHIND the store is an entire office building with various LDS offices. There's a family assistance center, an employment center, a mission center, home storage center and something about a Bishop's storage warehouse or some such thing. I can't imagine what the heck that means! Anyhoo, NONE of these offices were open today. I saw a couple of cars there, but no one would come open the door! So, my DD offered to go back on Monday as there is no way I can get to this location before closing during the week. I really wish I could have spoken to someone there as it's clearly where someone such as Steven would go for help.

So, that's what I got. Sorry not more fruitful.

Funny...those places are all normal to Mormon. :-) But, you got them right. Good work.

I will have to see if I can find email for the DI's and send the flier that way also.

Thank you so much Fairy-it is incredibly fruitful for the rest of us who are not on the ground there. I agree that the offices could hold some info and wonder if Steven's family has already contacted them given that it makes such darn good sense!!! You might want to find out before DD heads back there on Monday.

I just want to review some of the info from the day that has been sticking in my head-shoot me down where I have the data incorrect please!

1.) Steven's dad has an online magazine that does not have a missing person's poster for his son on it.

2.) There are multiple businesses owned by people named Travis Hansen and we are unclear if there is a relationship between any of them and this case...although we think we have found the business Steven was working for.

3.) There is a body of water in the area where Steven was last seen.

4.) There are LDS thrift stores and offices in the area of the sightings that have been reported.

Two questions for Naegle, please laytonian-
What kind of dogs did they use the week of Dec 30th and did they check the body of water with the dogs?

I am unfamiliar with road construction in Vegas-are there runoff areas, drainage ditches, pipes and tunnels?

Well, there you go. I'm not Mormon, so I've never had the need to visit such offices before. What the heck is a Bishop storage warehouse for? I had visions of a whole warehouse full of Bishops just waiting to be called upon!

I think e-mailing the poster is a GREAT idea. I'm still going to try to get by the Boulder Highway location on Monday as I want to speak to someone who may actually have seen Steven.

THANK YOU for doing that!
You don't know if it was fruitful or not.
All it takes is for one worker to recognize the face on the flyer.

For those not in Vegas:
TAKE A LOOK -- this is what the map looks like, for these two "sightings"....which is why they kinda make sense:

Sometimes, I think no one there does anything, unless it's ordered by the hierarchy. If the church in that area makes it a priority, it will be done. Maybe someone here can tackle that?

I'd been to that area before, and was a bit confused about everyone saying it was scary. We saw lots of mid-end restaurants (Outback) and the nicer strip malls.

I saw a post on the FB page about the stakes (groups of wards) in St George and the Anthem area sending out a blast email....but I don't think Steven is anywhere near those areas (sigh).

All those other offices you see, are part of the LDS church's welfare system. Everyone contributes, and can draw out. We also contribute (we make more donations than most Utahns)...but we don't draw out, of course.
I don't know if the DI managers are paid, or are volunteers. The other workers you'll see, will be unpaid trainees or volunteers. There definitely is a lackadaisical attitude at times (especially if you are donating high-value items that you've carefully tended to before you donate....grrrr).

That store was super busy. In fact, my son and I both spotted a guy we thought was Steven. You should have seen the look on my son's face!

As far as someone getting the church more involved, HOW ABOUT THE FAMILY or his own ward? Steven is something of a leader in his ward, right? WHY wouldn't they have enlisted the assistance of the Las Vegas wards immediately and have had people out beating the bushes ever since? I just don't understand it. AND, the church of the LDS has plenty of power and powerful people in Vegas. All it would take is ONE phone call from the right person and LE would be all over this case. I don't understand why we're not seeing more support from that quarter.

And no reward. Sorry, something is just not jiving here. WHAT are we missing?

Also - believe09 - we had a ton of rain here this week. Any runoff area or golf course water feature would likely have been overflowing. I just can't see how he wouldn't have been found by now if he were in one of those.

Now that I think about it - a runoff or flood channel would have been flowing - like a river. It may be worthwhile to check the final destination of one of these out of Anthem.

After this time, even if underwater for awhile, there would be signs. A body would start to bob up, come apart (remember Laci Peterson), etc. Laci's body bobbed up in April, in cold San Francisco Bay water. I think the water in a shallower golf course/run off would be warmer right now in Vegas.

Bishop's storehouse. Is that it?

"resource center that is used by bishops of the church to provide goods to needy individuals. The storehouses stock basic foods and essential household items."

Storm drains could prevent it from readily being seen I think.

Family has all the video, family has the car, family has the cell phone pings, family has the computer.

LE has all the above as well-what do we think we can add at this point that might help them out?

Do they need warm bodies to hand out flyers in the area of the sightings? And would they welcome it?? They have media coverage-where would it make sense to expand it??? Maybe SW can weigh in on that one...

I think we have a lot of gaps and intriguing coincidences...JMO.

That's pretty much what we're left with.

We can't fill in the gaps, and have chewed up everything we've been given....and given it back to the family. We'll never know if/how it's used.

There's a lot that could be done with the media and the church.
This is a family of journalists with close church ties.
They don't need our help with any of those things.
The flyer could be sent to every LDS home in Clark county, using the already-in-place phone chains.

Unless we get further information, I don't see us being productive.

These are all great questions - but falling on deaf ears here. I honestly don't know which way to turn. Are we looking for a live person or not? What is the family doing this weekend? Will they tell us where to pick up when they have to go back to Utah?

***sigh***

  • #460
My view is going to be of a family overwhelmed perhaps-they are probably covering a lot of physical territory in the city this weekend and will be exhausted. There are few things more labor intensive and emotionally exhausting than a missing person search...you never know which call is going to be the one and what the the information will be.

It is all about ups and downs...in the middle of complete confusion....and grief...and anger. The world never seems so big as when you are looking for one person in it. You can take that to the bank, fwiw.

Perhaps they will have much to report or share...and areas where we can fill in!!!
