The money that wasn't touched is one of the things that makes me think he may have wanted to just get away from everything. "I won't touch their money. I'll show them I can make it on my own."

....and I'll bet it was an overdraft bail-out, which would account for Naegle's saying that there was $0 in the account. He may have previously used up all of the available/overdraft...then a deposit would pay off the overdraft total, meaning he really didn't *have* funds, but could spend a certain amount before things started bouncing. That would mean just more debt. Just a hunch.

I agree & don't most VM ask you for a password- at least mine does even when calling from my cell phone itself.

Only if it's set up that way.

AND.....if the number dialed "from the cellphone" was a generic V/M account, maybe it was set up on a speedkey with the password autodialed.

There's really no way at all, to tell who dialed that V/M.

AND.....think about this possibility, folks: perhaps that V/M was something set up at the wardhouse, for each member of the Elder's Quorum? Do they do that? I'd think so!

If it's set up for speed dialing, it might have been dialed by accident -- somebody falling on it, sitting on it, dropping it. I no longer have my voicemail on speed dial :p

True. I didn't post it, believing it was SK....but it's a bit of a clue as to thinking. Another article I read, said that "before they get to singles ward, all the 'good ones' are gone" (meaning the beauty queens, gymnasts and high achievers are already pledged to someone, usually a man headed into the mission field).

In fact, "all the good ones" is such a known phrase, that Google turned up 4,640 hits for this search: "singles ward" "all the good ones"

Anyone who's kept up with the Susan Powell case, knows that she was considered singles ward fodder, at the tender age of 18....which is where she met her, uh......Josh.

I think it can be a joyous place, but also a bit hopeless...especially for those hitting the 30-32 limit.

Seeing the “ward hopper” made me think of something.
Steven was dressed how I would assume an LDS person would dress
to go to church in Las Vegas (slacks and a dress shirt).
Also… the “black portfolio” could also be his scriptures.
I believe the local ward started at 1:00 pm.
It is possible that he met someone to have lunch with, and was going to
attend the local ward afterwards.

Can we ask Naegle if his scriptures have been found?

Peeps--

Please stay on-topic, everyone. Please post about religion only as it is directly related to this man's disappearance. Please no posts about politics. We have the Political Pavilion for that. :)

Thanks for all your hard work on this mysterious case!

I think Naegle's kinda burned out for now, but I'll add that to the list.

BUT.....would it be helpful to identify ward members who live in that area? Someone who had someone his age, for him to meet?
It has to be non-accusatory, like "Is it possible someone in the ward made contact and had an appointment with a young man from St George, who never showed up?"

We have some good people here who might be able to tackle that one....eh?

So im sitting here at work and a thought poped into my head.

What if (just a senario) steven wasnt paying rent because for the holidays he wanted to do something really nice for his family. saved his cash? maybe set up something through someone in vegas. maybe thats why he didnt tell his family he was in vegas. to avoid the whole "why are you there?" "oh looking at a nice trip for the family." maybe. I mean any landlord who will let ya slid a couple months, you have to have some decent relationship with. Maybe his plan was to see what kinda money this christmas gift would be then pay rent late? Its a stretch but maybe he talked to someone about something like this??? Idk. just an idea...run with it.

You guys are absolutely amazing. Of all the missing person's cases I've read since finding WS, Steven's has 'gotten' to me more than any other. Also I think you posters here on Steven's thread are the best and brightest WS has to offer.
Anyway, I just keep going back and forth on what happened to Steven. At first I was swayed by webrocket's speculation that Steven is gay and ran off with someone, then when you all started talking about the hills and wilderness surrounding SCA I was sure he had committed suicide. Now I just don't know. I do think the fact that he sat in his car for a few minutes until it was almost noon exactly is a HUGE clue. I think that definitely indicates he was meeting someone in SCA at noon or had an appointment at SCA at noon. I hope "Appalled" isn't offended if he/she is reading this, but the noon time just gets to me. I really think it indicates he had an appointment of some sort, and since he parked in SCA, it seems reasonable that his appointment was somewhere in SCA. I don't know, my opinion could change tomorrow, but I do think that is Steven on the video, and I do think he had an appointment or was meeting someone somewhere within the SCA neighborhood at noon on that Sunday. Now, the question is, who was the appointment with, where was it exactly, and what transpired during it?
Not much more I can add at the moment - but keep up the wonderful job. I look forward to reading all of your brilliant posts every day.

it is strange. my take on it is that he was saying goodbye to people in his soon to be past before disappearing. I can see the family giving him lunch. Not sure how much company they have on the ranch and he was a face from the past.

I see what you mean, but it seems like they hardly ever spoke. Maybe a passing in the area thing. Maybe he was already there for something else. That i can see. but if it was to in a sense "say goodbye," why them? WHy not other immediate family? :banghead:

I agree; we're all totally brilliant. ;)

The problem I see with the noon appointment?
Since he started walking AT noon, he'd be a few minutes late.

That's why I wondered if there was some kind of signal he was waiting for....like maybe watching for another car to turn up Evening Lights St before he started walking. Or a call on a TracPhone...or something.

Naegle told me someone told the family "If Steven wanted to come up with the perfect disappearance, he did!"....except that the family doesn't see Steven as devious enough to pull it off.

Dammit, Steven. Get on the phone. I hope you know I'm in line to kick your butt, when you finally show up....but I'm behind all family members.

well, could be he was getting his portfolio together in the car. Doiuble checking he had things.

were there any type of "reward" situations going on in the neighborhood? Ya know lost jewlery type of thing? Coulda been delivering? long shot but worth looking into?

That's pretty much the way I always imagined it. And I figured wherever he was going wasn't too far from where he parked.

I really wonder how he knew to park where he did. If he was going to a specific home in that neighborhood, why not park there? If it was just an appointment of some kind, he wouldn't have been there for long. But by the same token, if someone was picking him up and instructed him to park there, that's odd too. And they obviously didn't follow right behind him or most likely, we would see their car on the video also or he wouldn't have needed to wait a few minutes for them to show up.

Where oh where could he be?

wouldnt he have driven by the house or car that he was meeting up with? could be that someone said "i dont want to block so and so from being able to park in the garage park in the cul de sac." soo the person knew he was there, he gathered his stuff, they left shortly after noon either in the house or in the car.

If I were heading for an appointment in a neighborhood that was only partly familiar, I'd be quite likely to drive past the place, park in the cul de sac, and walk the short distance back to my destination. It would give me a chance to locate my destination, then gather myself, calm my nerves. Plus the car would be already turned around so it would be easy to leave.

Yeah - but his "destination" appears to have been on another street entirely. In the video, he looks to know right where he's going. Like he's been there before - and knew to park in the cul-de-sac.

True. And in that case I'd probably park wherever I parked before :D
