Just popping in to make a quick comment. I've always felt with all the driving that Steven did that he was making deliveries for someone. Perfectly innocent people desperate for work end up commiting crimes because they don't know they are commiting any.

One guy recently, a layed off school teacher desperate for work, thought he had a job cutting checks and mailing them out for a corporation. Turns out he was helping operate a Nigerian scam.

Or the scam on 20/20, where the guy was "receiving packages" for the beautiful "fiancee" he'd met on the internet?
He'd reship them at his own expense, with a promise to be paid. Someone would pick them up after he cut the shipping labels.

My feeling is the connection is still going to be in the SCA area. That somehow indirectly someone knows someone who lives or visits there. For example, he gets a call, it doesn't throw up red flags because that person has called him before. Is it Travis, Gw ? I do not know. My son has called from my home on his cell and told a friend to meet him at his Mom's house (me), and told him to park at the mini plaza because the parking is easier. So I think there is a child, grandchild, niece, nephew or a friends friend who has someone living in the area. LOL is this making sense.

A secret drug rehab program that takes care of non-insured patients pro-bono?

Maybe sanctioned by the church and so highly confidential that most members don't even know the option exists....

Boy, if this doesn't hit home....I had a relative that swore I was smoking pot because I burned incense and was an idol worshiper because I have my house decorated in the Oriental scheme, which does include little Buddhas. But I am not a Buddhist. They also saw a copy of the book The Buddenbrooks in my library and immediately stated "Buddha". I could go on.....but you get my jest. In their eyes I need "saved", in my eyes they need educated.

...and on the other hand, things can be wrapped up neatly and hidden -- especially when one person is in a powerful position. There can be predators within that "acceptable" society. Things aren't always reported to the police; it's very common to just take it to the bishop for resolution.

We had an explosive exposition of this very thing, yesterday in Utah:
Ogden Standard
SL Tribune
AND you know it's "acceptable", because he received an ovation from his political allies in our State Legislature.

Yes....I believe that this attitude does have something to do with the total silence surrounding this case. :banghead:

IDK. I am hoping Steven is alive and well and discovering that playing the guitar or being gay or having sex or just living free will not ruin his life.

How could it, if he could at least support himself as well as he was previously...and was kind to humans and animals?

I see it this way: your religious beliefs (or your "moral code") most often are part of your growing up process; you don't get to choose. By the time you're old enough to choose, you're already immersed in a belief system.

BUT....even though you may internally fight against some of that belief's concepts, you're still basically "that". There are gay Mormons, there are rock band Mormons (your Las Vegas rock band The Killers), and other nontraditional types.

I don't see anything wrong with Steven wanting to be nontraditional; I hope he is, because it's actually his only safe chance.

I have a few issues with this drug angle.

It seems fe4's psychologist's friend believes Steven was ON drugs - not just RUNNING drugs or drug money. There's a big difference - particularly if we want to believe Steven didn't actually know what he was doing.

Remember, gsmith said that Steven had been taking some drug in the past, that made him feel better. We don't know if it was prescribed, or if he was self-medicating. He didn't like caffeine, so whatever he took, had a "downer" effect.

I think he could reach out to something, nonprescribed, that would make him feel better; he must have sensed the need for it.

BUT...IF he was involved in something legal or illegal, it doesn't really matter if he knew it was. He was doing it.

And I also wonder why Steven wasn't able to pay his rent if he was into something illegal for the money.

Maybe he was working off the debt?

I also have to wonder, how did he meet the person who led him down this road?. There would have to be some type of contact - whether it be by phone or computer. Some type of contact that was traceable before the "bad" guy or guys got him an untraceable phone or instructed him not to contact them in a way that could be traced.

I just can't get totally on board with this theory.

There's one (probably two) people he had interactions with, face to face, who have drug histories.

If he was working off a debt, I think it makes total sense that someone at least gave him a "connection" to work with, or had him running errands.

Watching the video again today...I don't think that's a portfolio under his arm. I'm not really sure there's anything under his arm. It looks like he might be holding a phone in both hands, looking down, as if he's typing a text message.

Also, I notice that his clothes are close to the same color as the desert around the golf course. If he was in one of those gullies, he would not show up at all.

If he was on medication, he could easily have had a bad reaction to the medication and have had a seizure of some kind, passed out, and died of dehydration and lack of medical care. These things are also common.

I dunno about the Mormons, but I know that Lutheran Social Services and Catholic Social Services have options that operate on a pay-what-you-can basis. There's a pretty long waiting list, but you can get treatment.

Any medical establishment is more or less secret, or at least confidential. HIPA requires it. I'm not sure they're even allowed to confirm that you're a patient there if you haven't authorized it.

I know some clinics have a "don't bring anything but your toothbrush" policy. It's for situations where they think people might be suicidal. My friend couldn't even take her knitting because they were concerned about what uses other patients might make of the needles.

Let me add that I don't know whether I believe this myself. But I don't see any evidence against it. Even the car could fit. GW to the people in St. George: I'm supposed to pick up Steven's car and I can't find it!
St. George people to Steven: where did you leave the car? Steven to GW: I left it right where you told me to!

Try using large screen - and at 12:00:12 stop the video. First time today I see
a fairly large item under Steven's left arm. It is darker than the light colored clothing. Not sure what it is. :waitasec:

Yes, thats what I am talking about. Yes, its making sense! The person who he was working with, I believe it is someone he knows well. That person is smart enough NOT to talk to Steven on his cellphone. But I believe it is someone Steven sees daily. A person he works with, or someone from church, he knows well.

I agree sbakker , it is someone he talked to on a regular basis or in person. If there is absolutely nothing out of the ordinary on cell phone or comp , Then it is someone close to him who I believe knows why he went to SCA. My idea is

- boss
- GW
- landlords
- roomie

Not necessarily in that order. I think if we look at this in more simple terms the answer is there,

this exists. i know based on the experience of a friend who was heavily addicted.
to spare family from inqisition he went to SLC for rehab and only very few knew and now he is back after 6 months. he's doing fine now.
he did not have a job. he lost his 100k a year job.
his family and house were taken care of by relatives and the church and his wife.
didnt get high paying job back so hes starting from the lower rung so to speak.

thankfully they were able to keep their home.

Sorry, but I highly doubt that the church had anything to do with this directly. I'm pretty familiar with the workings of the LDS church and how things get handled. I'm not saying that someone who was LDS didn't help him out, I'm saying the church didn't help him out.

Yep. Hmmmmm. What debt did he have that we know of?

Rent, car payments, credit card....that we know of.

Right. Credit card companies, banks and auto finance companies don't generally cause their customers to go missing. So......
