The bank normally won't do it. They refer you to the credit card company. But even then, some purchases don't trace back beyond the corporate processing center. We found this out a couple of years ago when we had to deal with some questionable purchases. The company where the purchase was made didn't care whether the transaction was fraudulent; it was cheaper for them to write it off than to track it down. I'm there, "I don't know whether that was us or not. I don't have enough information to recognize it," and the helpful lady on the other end said, "That's fine, we'll cancel it and refund to your card."

I don't know whether they would have the ability to track down to further detail under subpoena or search warrant. They must. But I don't know whether they'd do it for what's basically a fishing expedition.

I think it'd be a legitimate part of a missing-persons investigation. All they'd need is to show a judge where the details were important. IF they've developed any hint of a crime, it'd be a no-brainer.

Don't forget the point-of-sale (🤬🤬🤬/cash register) system itself.

Not all transactions are via credit card, and stores do have a deep database of past sales. The clerk (or even manager) may not have access to it .... but a good IT person could easily go in and find a matching-dollar transaction for the specific time period.

It's just that they wouldn't want to, unless forced into it. (I've programmed customized 🤬🤬🤬 systems for three businesses, and know that they have to keep their sales records for as long as they can be audited for taxes...which is generally seven years.)

I think there's another reason: we're talking about what went on during a meeting of LDS Priesthood members. It's not so much a secret, as it is considered a sacred duty. As I've mentioned before, my uncle was an LDS Bishop, and even when he was late to a family function because of a late-running Priesthood meeting, he could not tell us why.

We were given information about what went on, trying to bring the meeting together ... but I doubt that the meeting itself is open to public record. Ever.

And even more than "sacred" a lot of times families and individuals in need of help/having problems are discussed, and it's a confidentiality issue more than anything. There's certainly no reason that attendance at the meeting would be kept secret.

OH I hope that the new details in this case will help us make some sort of sense as to what was going on in the days leading up to his disappearance. This case frustrates me to no end because even though we know a lot, we don't really know anything at all.

Naegle says she's waiting to see what the "new information" is, too. ;)

I just wish we'd have had a bit more heads-up BUT we got the alert even before it hit the newspapers!

Hopefully, Fairy1, fasteddy4 and Paris_Paris are reading.

If anyone else here is from the Vegas-Henderson area, please let yourself know ;)

I'm surprised at the contacts with the Powell family. Wonder if there's anything solid there?

Video that we haven't seen before would be great. We can calculate inches and shadows and mailboxes again.

Hope there's something helpful in this.

I will be there. It's not far from where I live and I have the time. Hopefully, they allow regular people to show up and watch.

The statement makes it sound like all this talk of him running away from his life is not true. It also sounds to me like police are leaning toward him having been set up by someone and then abducted. It is at least interesting that the Susan Powell case is mentioned but the rest of the statement makes it sound like Steven's and Susan's cases are totally separate.

I think it's a very savvy statement.

FIRST, by mentioning the Powell case, they'll get more attention to Steven's case.....AND they can also help defuse the constant questions I'm sure they get.

If there were any link between these two people (neighborhood, ward, wardhouse, etc), it wouldn't have been kept secret. In fact, it'd be so blatant it'd solve both cases easily. IMO, of course.

Will this be televised at all? I would sure love to be able to watch it some how.

The Susan Powell part of it might get some national attention. But, it would surely be edited. I would find it very unusual if they played the conference live on national news, especially since the Steven part of it is not as well-known to the nation.

The news conference could be played live here in Las Vegas and in Utah. Just hard to say. But, I am sure the local news will cover it one way or another.

I just hope that it is not just a re-hashing of what we already know. Hopefully, there are some new leads we can expound on.

ABC: http://www.ktnv.com/
CBS: http://www.lasvegasnow.com/ <--most coverage to date
NBC: http://www.mynews3.com/index.php
http://www.fox5vegas.com/index.html <---broadcasts from Henderson fwiw

The SLT. just came out with a story on Susan. Are any newspapers going to carry the info about Steven? I have not been able to find any to do with the presser to-morrow.

If the newspapers don't cover it, they're going to hear from US -- right?

The story's about how Josh's neighborhood is being covered with ribbons and flyers.

It's too bad Steven disappeared so far from his home, or his parents'. Not a lot of chance for a vigil....WHERE?.....and I'm sure the SCA HOA would call the Geriatric Patrol on vigilantes.

Yes, I read the story , I was looking for a story on Steven. If there was going to be a story on this presser to-morrow don't you think it would have made, the papers to-day.? I have not checked Deseret news yet. It is sad that Susan is missing , but Sreven just isn't getting the coverage , is he?

LOL at the geriatric patrol.
