I wonder what the source of this tip is. Anyone can post anything on the internet these days.

The delay in getting an actual search going is bizarre. I agree with what someone else posted - if LE got a reliable tip (or even not so reliable) you'd think they'd be on the scene ASAP.

This area should have been searched in the very beginning. JMO He was headed that way. Don't know if there were any helicopter searches in that area?? A 5 mile radius?
Why no media? No statements by LE? I'm sorry, I'm just a bit leary and will take this with a grain of salt. But hope it leads to something for a resolution.

I ask a reporter for The Examiner to please get the following "search information" out to the general public in the Susan Powell case....but this can be used in ANY missing person case and does not require any kind of organization. Just things ordinary citizens may do in a matter of 15 minutes to an all day excursion.

This list was put out by a Sheriff's Dept in Greenly, Co after the disappearance of 12 year old Kayleah Wilson.

Lay, can you get these search tips on the timeline?

I missed this nuance:

I just received this from Steven's cousin, KC Naegle:

Apparently there was a tip that Steven's body
could be found in that area and either le or our
current pi are/is asking for help
.

Underlined by me.

We not only have the question of who the tipster was we also have the question of who requested the search. Naegle does not know whether it is LE or the family's PI.

Those are good tips (actually published the previous day HERE -- but are much different than will be given to people searching in specific area planned near the Henderson airport.

I'll pass them on to the family, because I believe it's important that they get the information to the people who are assisting/organizing.

Thanks.

No, I'm not referring to the library computers.

Which ones have not been forensically searched, for which a warrant or subpoena could be obtained?

  • #107
Wow, just wow. Thanks in advance to all the locals who will be out there searching. While I'd prefer another ending, and there's still that possibility, it would be a relief to have all the speculation and worry over with. :(

This reminds me of something that took place a few years ago, in Utah.

A boy was missing in the mountains and there was huge media coverage. Lots of searchers were needed, and they were needed quickly. There were lots of trails, but the weather was cold at night and the boy's life was in danger.

Fortunately, many people did turn out for the search.

What wasn't revealed to the public at the time but WAS told to the searchers, were some critical details they needed to search: the boy had autism, and would hide from strangers.

With this knowledge, the searchers were successful in finding the boy, alive and well -- and the details were released to the general public later.

ETA:
How does this apply to Steven's case? The details of this tip will likely be shared with the searchers (ie, what to look for, and where) and may never get the details. I CAN, however, tell you that I have learned (from an outside source) that this tip is from an experienced, reliable source and is being taken seriously for that reason.

If this tip/information is true, it's a sad time for the family because they are now involved in recovering Steven's remains. If it's just another dead end, it's still a sad time.

Aren't we here to support the family, as well as help find Steven?

Did we know that there was a new PI involved? I remember last that the first PI left because there was nothing to go on....no tips or news. I always felt like that was a mistake. With the majority of the family far away from the location...were Steven was
last seen....it seemed that they could use that kind of help.

Laytonian...have you heard anything today?

This is sort of OT, but do you all notice that there are some posts missing often...usually
during the night....not sure where they go!

I think it is great they are searching. If it turns up nothing it is one less place that needs to be searched.

I did not know there was another PI involved.

Or maybe it wasn't. If I hired an investigator, I'd expect them to be the ones to go out and find the tips, news and clues. Look at all the questions we've had! Certainly a good investigator could have dug out the info we've been curious about. Some are probably better than others.

No. I need to get a blurb about this search into the singles ward "mass email" which will go out tomorrow morning, so I'm getting anxious. I might have to just let my contact go with what we have, without knowing "here's where to meet".

I hadn't noticed. Usually I just check the new stuff. Probably one of the mods works at night ;)

The tip comes from the PI and not LE. He's an ex-LVMPD detective with 25 years of investigative experience (his last assignment was in the intelligence detail. Those guys are very good.). He wouldn't say where the tip came from but considers it reliable. LE is not involved in the search.

He's organizing the search along with the family (and WSer's) and seems to have it fully staffed, so he has not requested the help of NV Missing Loved Ones. They have about 40-50 people so far.

The PI sounds great. Not the tip we were hoping for. I do hope they find some type of clue into his disappearance, for the family.

Thanks.

The idea of the search tips and for the post was to get info out to the "public" for an "unorganized search". I'm sure the organizer's of Steven's search are experienced and not so much in need of the tips.

I don't see the point in the original "print info"? That is where I got the original info, but wanted to expand it because I felt the tips should be available to anyone searching for a missing person---not just in the Greeley, Co. area.

They posted the info on Susan's FB page so anyone interested in searching on their own may have important searching info. I'm sorry if this seems like moot info in
Steven's case. JMO

The fact that LE is not involved and hasn't discouraged the search, like in the case of SP, makes me think they believe Steven committed suicide. Having inexperienced, volunteer searchers tromping around leads to a serious risk of contaminating the crime scene, unless of course, they don't believe a crime was committed.

If the area is right next to the airport, can't they do some fly overs? Wouldn't someone have seen him by now? MOO

Yes, I've noticed. I also think it is a bit interesting that Steven's Page 8 was down for almost a whole day and then we get the scoop on the tip. I also found comments in the comment section, in the Examiner article I posted, have a wiff of a recent poster on this site.

If you are planning to join the search:

QUICKLY: send your email address to me, so that all necessary information can be sent to you by the family rep.

LOCATION/DETAILS:

You will be emailed a map, and other information.

The time has changed to 8am.

NOTE:
Your email address will be kept as confidential as possible in this type of situation. I will forward it along, and delete the information.

I do not understand the "secrecy" in this search and the info? Why not let the public know? Hmmmmmm....?

Thank for the update and info swjaxon. I'd say I'm looking forward to article covering this, but I think there may be someone following his case who may be a suspect? Hence, no specific info to the general public.

Likely not. You've got light-colored clothing, light-colored bones (sorry, but it's been almost four months), maybe some papers, a cellphone, car keys, wallet and contents ... and all blending in among light-colored rocks and sandy soil.

I'm not going to second-guess the method; it sounds like an experienced person is in charge who knows as well as anyone, how to give the instructions to the searchers.

I am thinking if they got a tip, a perp has told someone something. I doubt the perp would call in a tip. If it was suicide no one would know he was there , that is if he is.
