I would suspect she worked at a New Year's Eve party and staff often are there until 1:30-2 cleaning up so that would mean Jan 1.

Very strange, no? Someone found a human skull in Durango, Colorado and instead of contacting police in that jurisdiction they brought the skull all the way to Balch Springs, Texas?
In the 1970s that would have been a very long drive (about 16 hours).
