He was at the Hilton/GSR from 1/05 to about 4/07.

Ah, one of the few places I didn't make it to before I left.

I digress.

Anyone else notice on the younger composite of Mary Ann R. Switalski she has a mole or such on the left side of her neck just like our Jane Doe?

I think the mole/photo blemish/??? on Mary Ann's photo looks higher up on the neck than Jane Doe's brown mole, almost on the collarbone area. Unfortunately, we can't see that far down on either on Mary Ann's images. However, Jane was murdered 20 or so years after the photo was taken, so perhaps the mole had inched its way down over time, thanks to gravity.

Jane has been nameless nearly 30 years... this is so sad.

Michele, I shot it over to Rudy to see what he thought.

"Thanks Charlie. *I think that I will try to contact the Sheriff's Office
and see if the swabs taken during the exam are still in existence. *If
they are, we will try to have these analyzed for DNA comparison. *I
think this is the best possibility for getting a positive ID for our
unidentified female.

Rudy"

I asked him how good a sample would be after 30 years.

"Should be good enough to complete a full profile. *

We'll see,

Rudy"

When he said he was gonna check and see if they were still in existence didn't make me feel better about this case.

Yeah, that doesn't sound too convincing, Charlie...
If DNA isn't available, I suppose dental comparison is an option. Mary Ann's NAMUS page says that her dental chart is available.

I submitted this case to Mary Ann's case worker. They are submitting her rentals to her detective.

Er dentals.

That's excellent, Charlie! Wouldn't it be something to get this solved before 30 years has passed? :great:

No match.

I got this from Mary Ann's investigator;

Mr. Guzman,
*
I spoke with the forensic*odontologist today and he informed me that there was no match between the Jane Doe and Mary Ann Switalski.
*
Thank you for your* lead, let me know if you come up with anything else.
*

We'll find her.

That was fast. Good to know that the investigators are taking this seriously, even after so many years.

Onward...

Hi sleuthers. As we all know, we are coming up on the 30 year anniversary of the murder of Jane Doe. I know that many of us live in the Reno area and I would like to put my feelers out to see if any of you would be interested in doing something special for her closer to that date. Maybe the investigator, Rudy Bein would be interested in coming as well?
I care very much about our Jane Doe, and I know many of the readers here do as well. In fact, she is the reason I joined WS in the first place, after following her thread here for several months.
If this is not allowed, I apologize in advance. Let me know what you guys think.
:)

I have looked into the price of a basic headstone before. I don't like how she has no marker for her grave. I'm sure a one could be had through a local business for a good price or maybe donated.

Charlie, she doesn't have a headstone?! I didn't know that! That is awful.
I remember seeing somewhere that you had found her grave. Which cemetery is it in? I am happy to get the ball rolling on this.

She is next UNR. She is in an older section of the cemetery, about middle of the cemetery to the west. If you go to the office and ask for a listing of Jane Doe and say her date of death as July 1982 they can pull her up and give you a map. There are a few Jane and John Does near her. I assume the John in her row is the African gentleman who robbed the Sparks bank.

Hi My first time posting here. I read about this Jane Doe a few months ago and was determined to find out who she is. I think I may have found the answer. I
superimposed the morgue photo of this Jane doe with Nancy Perry Baird and this is what I came up with Washoe jane doe.jpg
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/b/baird_nancy.html
I read the authorities think Ted Bundy kidnapped her, but he said in his death row confessions he said he didn't have anything to do with her disappearance. He said he would never claim anyone who was too close to family, too close to home or too young. If he kidnapped Nancy why would he claim all the others in Utah and not her. I personally think someone like Garrido was passing through town on that 4th of July weekend. She also left behind a 4 year old son.

Welcome to Websleuths, BJHUB:
:welcome:

Nancy does look very much like Jane Doe. But there are several inconsistencies:

First of all, Nancy's front teeth don't appear to be crowded, as Jane Doe's are (though the photos aren't very clear).

Secondly, Nancy has no apparent connection to Europe. The UID has dental work that was most likely done in Europe. And it would be quite a long-shot to think that perhaps she traveled to Europe during the seven years that she was missing and then returned here to be escorted into the Sierra Nevada woods and executed.

Thirdly, although they mention the vaccination scar on her arm and the surgical scar on the abdomen, there is no mention of scars on the wrist. But it's possible that they were too small to mention.

And finally, the Jane Doe was (5'5" to 5'6"), whereas Nancy was on the small side (5'2" to 5'3"). But I've seen 3 and 4 inch height differences before between UID's and the MP's that they are subsequently matched up to.

By themselves, any one of these negatives by themselves probably wouldn't be insurmountable. But as they stack-up, they become harder to explain away.

Wow! That's the best facial match I've seen thus far!

Carl one thing though, the independent dental comparison I had done with another dentist even stated he didn't know what European dentistry was being performed and everything he saw was quite standard.
Also the vaccination scars are not uncommon among US residents.

Has she been submitted? If not let's drop Rudy and Nancy's case worker a line and get them compared ASAP!

I really hope this is a match and we can finally get it resolved after 30 years. I have a really strong feeling that its her.

Let's hope so. Maybe we can bring her home. :)

BJ,

I shot it to Rudy about 2 weeks ago. I haven't heard much back. He submitted her DNA to see of it is a match. Says he does not know how long it would take. He'll keep me informed.
