Judge Kaplan refers to Donald Trump as "now sailing in harm’s way with his son".

Donald Trump rape accuser E Jean Carroll takes the stand

"I'm here because Donald Trump raped me, and when I wrote about it, he lied and said it didn't happen," Ms Carroll told a Manhattan federal court on Wednesday. "He lied and shattered my reputation, and I'm here to try and get my life back."

Him talking about her being old at 61 when he was only three years younger.

Donald Trump raped me, writer E Jean Carroll testifies in New York court

Carroll told the jury the situation “turned absolutely dark”. [...] “My whole reason for being alive at that moment was to get out of the room,” she said.

But Carroll said she could not escape Trump’s grip. Speaking quietly and slowly, she said he raped her.

Carroll said she escaped after she was able to lift her knee and push him off. She fled the store. [...] “It left me unable to ever have a romantic life again,” she said.

Later, Carroll shed tears as she explained that she found it impossible to even smile at a man she was attracted to after the alleged rape, and that she had not had sex since.

[...]

Carroll also admitted there was a contradiction between her role as an advice columnist telling readers to seek therapy or go to the police, and her own failure to do either.

Carroll said she considers Trump “evil” and thought he was a “terrible” president, but denied bringing the lawsuit against him because of her political views.

“I’m not settling a political score. I’m settling a personal score,” she said.

Carroll said she had been subject to considerable abuse by Trump and his supporters for going public about the alleged attack, including the then president’s dismissal of her as a liar. Carroll said she had expected him to say they had a consensual encounter, not deny it altogether.

“It hit me and it laid me low because I lost my reputation. Nobody looked at me the same. It was gone. Even people who knew me looked at me with pity in their eyes, and the people who had no opinion now thought I was a liar and hated me,” she said. “The force of hatred coming at me was staggering.”

Carroll said she was also fired from her advice column at Elle magazine after 26 years.

Asked if she regretted accusing Trump given the consequences, Carroll’s voice broke.

“I regretted this about 100 times but, in the end, being able to get my day in court finally is everything,” she said, through tears.

The trial continues.

Somehow it feels like sexual assault victims everywhere are on trial. The attitudes of American people are being tested.

Trump Warned To Stay Off Social Media After Posts Calling E. Jean Carroll Rape Trial A ‘Scam’

Just unbelievable that while DT is a Defendant on trial (virtually) he is posting virtual commentary about the Plaintiff in the trial on SM and attacking them and their testimony. o_O

Sounds like he must have finally and truly lost his marbles.

Or is he that Mach·i·a·vel·li·an that he did so knowing he would be warned/censored and have to take them down but would still get his "2 hours of posts up" (screenshots live forever).

Unreal, and a terrible miscarriage of justice, IMO, that the judge and parties involved and jurors had to deal with this apparent attempt to undermine the proceedings and/or get some clicks

JMO

I vote for option 2 ... "he did so knowing he would be warned/censored and have to take them down but would still get his "2 hours of posts up" (screenshots live forever)."

Same applies to his son.

Pretty sure DT did the same thing in the action brought against him by DA Bragg. Likes to get his narrative out there - it could be called 'striking while the iron is hot' - knowing fully well that all he will get (the first time) is a slap on the hand.

But, as you say, those screenshots last forever and we can bet that they will be circulating among a certain demographic.

imo

The two opening statements are a study in contrasts. Carroll’s attorney describes the testimony he will present and facts already public re:Trump (his insulting and threatening tweets, and lies). Trump’s attorney attacks Carroll’s character…liar, what she is doing is an affront to justice, exploiting rape victims for money, basking in the spotlight, loves being a celebrity, came up with this to sell a book, to hurt Trump politically and inject herself into the spotlight. Did Trump write his opening statement?
JMO

They are a study in contrasts but they mimic the type of narrative that was fairly common in rape charges back in the day and to a lesser degree today. The modus operandi of a defense lawyer in a rape case has always been to sully the character of the victim: they have loose morals, they have multiple sex partners, they wear seductive clothing, they are liars, they are angry the accused doesn't like them, etc., etc., etc.

Back in the late 80s a friend of mine worked in a bar in Toronto called Davey C's. The wait staff were all women. Their uniform was pretty straight-laced but incredibly sexy: fitted white dress shirt with a tie, skin tight black pencil skirt, sheer black hose and the highest heels they could wear without crippling themselves.

One of them, this tall, exotic looking Indian girl with hair down to her butt was sexually assaulted by one of the regulars after her shift ended. He accosted her on the street around 2 in the morning and dragged her into an alley. Who knows what he was thinking; he was a regular, every one knew who he was, she went to the cops and reported him.

At the trial, the first thing his lawyer did was denigrate her for working in a bar slyly suggesting that she was complicit. He suggested she flirted with the clientele to get better tips inferring that was grounds for rape. He asked her to return the next day wearing her work uniform suggesting her outfit was so wildly sexy it's no wonder someone raped her.

All of those attempts at denigrating the victim was for naught in this case. He was convicted and I think he got four years in prison. A lot of women are very reluctant to press charges in a sexual assault cases because their personal lives are open for scrutiny and they suffer negative consequences for years.

That's why so few rapes reported to LE end up in court cases. It's estimated that most victims of rape never even report them and those that do say they'd never go through the process if they'd known in advance how soul destroying it could be.

Today is Melania Trump's birthday. She's 53 years old. E. Jean Carroll was born in 1943. If the rape happened in 1996 she was 53 years old. So I guess Melania is nearly 60 years old according to DT.

Trump put out dozens of 'truths' today - none of which mentioned his wife's birthday.
