Voong, 41, also known as Linh Phat Voong, was from Johnson City, N.Y. He burst into the civic center wearing a bright green nylon jacket and dark-rimmed glasses. Voong's body was found on first floor with a hunting knife jammed into the waistband of his pants.

It's reported that the vehicle that blocked the rear exit is registered to a Johnson City man in his mid 60's.

Maybe a relative...?

Could be. I hope LE has checked up on his relatives and that they are all ok.

You could be right. I really hope LE is going to Johnson County where he's from and checking on his family and everyone there to make sure he didn't harm them first.

Binghamton is my hometown. I have numerous relatives still living there. I have not been able to reach any of them. To my knowledge, none of them work there at the Center, however, there are several relatives who work at the various hospitals in the emergency rooms. If I can find out any information, I will pass it on here.
Binghamton is also my hometown cleo, it is scary to see this kind of thing happen ,i called all my relatives , they said we (in Florida) were getting more info (at that time) then they were.mayor on now

I know, I wish we would because there have been so many media inaccuracies today floating around. But, I doubt we will hear from LE because this is still an ongoing investigation.

Yeah, it's still so early. I just get so frustrated when crime pressers start out with a bunch of polititians patting each other on the back. And it doesn't help that I'm so impatient! lol.

I was hoping that they would at least say his family is ok. They might have and I didn't hear.

Been a member for awhile but this is my first post actually...

I'm a Binghamton native and currently still in the area working on my Masters degree. The thing I've noticed about many news reports is the mass amount of misinformation. If the information on the suspect is correct, he is actually from Johnson City which is only a 5-10 minute drive depending on where you are. Alot of reports have been saying he was employed at IBM in Johnson City- the location is Endicott,NY and the workforce for IBM Endicott is pretty low actually...they had done A LOT of lay offs in the 90s and early 00s. The Civic Association is just off Main Street in Bing and if you stay on the Main Street it turns into JC, then Endicott as you drive on.

But anyway...senseless, horrible tragedy. Binghamton certainly isn't as safe as the media reports have made it out to be (actually there are many parts of Binghamton I will not go alone after dark) but this is all still mind blowing. Horrible horrible horrible.
