Hurstel allegedly told police the brutal slaying unfolded after he argued with his mother during the morning inside their West Brighton home, prompting Casalaspro to tell him to take a walk to calm down, the sources said.

The agitated Hurstel allegedly returned home to find his mother gone, leading to an altercation that ended with him beating Casalaspro to death with a meat tenderizer, the sources said.

He allegedly planned to cut up Casalaspro’s body into pieces that he’d pulverize with a blender, but ran into trouble carrying out his deranged dismemberment plan, according to the sources.

A first attempt to sever Casalaspro’s head with a kitchen knife failed, prompting the sick suspect to grab a hand saw from a shed to finish the grisly job, sources said.

He then allegedly used a hammer in a failed attempt to remove Casalaspro’s brain, but he was interrupted by his younger sister arriving home from school, the sources said.

The problem here was not in the mentally unstable teen, but in a brutal abuser his mother kept as her bf. I am not surprised this boy mental health went horrifically bad, when he had to live in that house of horrors and, most probably, endure daily abuse.

According to the NYP posted upthread (Yeah, I know, it's the NYP), LE was called to the house multiple times about abuse in regards to the now deceased victim.

• In the most recent report in 2023, sources said Casalaspro allegedly drunkenly attacked Hurstel before slapping the teen’s mom.
• Neighbors on the tree-lined street also recounted witnessing distressing incidents spilling out of the Cary Avenue home, including one in which Hurstel’s mother suffered a broken leg. She was on the ground, her leg was bent the wrong way. I said, ‘Do you want me to call 911?’ (The boyfriend) said, ‘No, you’re fine, you’re fine.'”
• During the first alleged domestic violence incident in 2021, the mother told cops her boyfriend was drunkenly breaking things in their home and had a handgun, which was never found, sources said.
• Casalaspro — who was forced to go on disability because of severe vision loss, a close friend said — also had a criminal record going back to 2000, when he was arrested on suspicion of selling drugs, according to sources.
• His other offenses included possessing a gravity knife in 2015 and a 2020 assault and reckless driving incident, sources said.
