This is just dragging on and on. You have really kept Anthony's thread up and running justicewillbeserved. I think she will regret not taking the plea deal for 2nd degree murder. Instead of serving 25 years I'm hoping she gets found guilty on 1st degree and gets life without parole.
If she can take her anger out on a 16 month old baby (which she's admitted too) then she can injure and kill anyone in a fit of anger.
Let's hope justice will be served.

What a horrible person. I agree. She’s going to regret not taking the 2nd degree murder charges. No jury or judge will take it easy on her. Thanks for the updates.

Babysitter makes last-minute, first-degree murder plea in tot torture, sexual abuse case

With the start of jury selection minutes away, Gloria Fields decided to take her fate into her own hands, pleading guilty to first-degree murder in the death of a 17-month-old boy who prosecutors said she sexually abused and fatally tortured while babysitting him two years ago.

After briefly speaking to her aunt in the courtroom, Fields, 33, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in exchange for a sentence of 23 years to life behind bars.

The Concord resident admitted to the top charge of a 12-count indictment accusing her of causing little Anthony Delgado's death over the course of three days by acting in an "especially cruel and wanton manner ... intended to inflict and inflicting torture" on the child.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 24 in state Supreme Court, St. George.

Tears, strong words, then applause when tot torturer is sentenced for murder

A spontaneous burst of clapping from about 20 members of little Anthony Delgado's family when, after Justice Wayne Ozzi sentenced Fields to 23 years to life for sexually abusing and fatally torturing the 17-month-old boy she was babysitting two years ago, the judge also said there's "no guarantee" the Concord resident would be released in 23 years.

"That poor child never had a chance in your hands," Ozzi had said moments earlier, lighting into the defendant before imposing sentence. ... "Why would anyone want to do this to an innocent 17-month-old child? To me, that just shows you were wicked and cruel."

The judge went on.

"I saw no emotion, no visible sign of remorse," Ozzi said, referring to Field's muted response when Eddie Castro, the victim's uncle, read a statement prepared by Anthony's mother, Marta Delgado, who stood beside him.

“As a mother, I never thought there would be a day that I would be on this earth without my son,” her statement said. “I often thought about taking him to his first day at school ... and teaching him how to ride his bike.

“It was sobering when I realized I would never be able to have these opportunities. I would never get to see his smiling face. I would never be able to buy him another bag of Cheese Doodles, his favorite food.”

Eddie Delgado choked back tears as he reached the conclusion of the statement: “The defendant committed so many unforgivable crimes, crimes I’m not sure could ever be forgiven by any human — and possibly not be forgiven by God.”
