Below is a part of the article

Maffetore, who was awaiting trial in Queens for grand larceny, disappeared on the eve of his scheduled appearance March 7 in Queens County Court. Judge Peter T. Farrell ordered bail of $5,000 forfeited and issued a warrant for Maffetore's arrest. He is now being sought by the police. Acting Lieut. Grover Brown of the Automobile and Forgery Squad said that he believed Maffetore was a member of a national ring of car thieves. The squad, aided by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has picked up stolen New York cars in Virginia, Tennessee, Florida and other Southern states in the last few months. When the 37-year-old Maffetore was questioned last Oct. 26 he said, “I'm lucky I'm alive,” according to Lieutenant Brown. The police found a half dozen certificates for stolen cars and a numbering stamp similar to that used by the State Motor Vehicle Bureau in the 🤬🤬🤬🤬's room in mid-Manhattan. Maffetore has not been in touch with his wife and child since jumping bail and his lawyer fears that violence has been done.

Fear Slaying

Anthony "Duke" Maffetore, whose information helped smash "Murder, Inc." of which he was a member, had disappeared forfeiting $5,000 bail while waiting trial on a car theft charge. Maffetore, 37, of Brooklyn, was prominently mentioned by former Mayor William O'Dwyer in testimony before the Senate Crime Investigating Committee describing his roundup of the killer gang. Authorities feared the gangster "may turn up in a bag."
