Family of missing autistic teenager Avonte Oquendo plead for FBI involvement as boy remains missing 4 months on
FBI cannot become involved because the teen is listed as a missing person by NYPD and the case therefore does not require federal involvement
That's such a horrible situation for the family :(

I think it's BS if FBI "can't" get involved. He is ; his "disability" should "qualify" him to get as much help as needed. Really makes me sick that more is not being done to find him!

I have not been following his case except to catch a few news stories; has Nancy Grace featured him?

We want to thank everyone for all of your help over the Christmas and New Years Holiday. We would like to clarify that we have sought the help of the FBI and had petitioned them to take the lead in the investigation regarding Avonte. There are several legal reasons they gave us for not being legally permitted to take over the investigation. The most noted is that the NYPD has listed Avonte as a missing person, not a victim of kidnapping or other such federal offense(s) that would require the FBI's involvement. It is our deepest desire for the FBI to get involved but there is a system in place that requires protocol, we cannot force the FBI to get involved and we continually ask and pray they do

Cops investigate human remains, possible link to missing autistic boy
Skeletal human remains have been found Thursday night washed up on a northern Queens beach – and cops are looking into whether articles of clothing can link them to missing autistic boy Avonte Oquendo, sources said.
The sneakers match the description of the ones Oquendo, 14, was wearing when he went missing on Oct. 4 from a school in Long Island City.

Oh my God oh my God....my heart always skips a beat when I see Avonte's thread has been bumped. I don't know whether I hope it's him or it's not....at least his family wouldn't be wondering if he were slowly starving to death somewhere, or what is happening to him. Oh, jeez. I don't know. Avonte, oh poor honey.

I understand your frustration! But, I for one was pleased with the amount of searching that LE did for Avonte. He was searched for every day for months. I do also believe his family was instrumental in keeping his search ongoing. Yes, Nancy Grace did have him featured on her show several times.

It seems wrong to say "I hope so", but considering the alternative....

I think this is probably him, unfortunately. At least it'd be some closure.

Cops are investigating whether an arm and legs found near a Queens shoreline Thursday are those of missing teen Avonte Oquendo, a police source said.
The human limbs were found near Powell's Cove Blvd. and Endeavor Place in College Point about 7 p.m., police sources said. A sneaker also was found, sources added, but they could not say whether it belongs to the autistic 14-year-old boy, who went missing more than three months ago.

I have no doubt that this is our beloved Avonte.

I am grieving and will pray for his soul.

So extremely sorry. Baby boy, my heart is so incredibly heavy that we, as a society, failed you so miserably.

You and your sweet angel smile will always be in my thoughts until forever.

The remains, said to be a human arm and legs, were found on a rock in the water near the College Point Yacht Club around 7 p.m. Thursday. Police responded to a 911 call in the vicinity of Powell Cove Boulevard and Endeavor Place after a 14-year-old girl stumbled across the limbs.

Also just heard they have found clothes matching what he was wearing.

Poor little baby.
