I'm not sure if mods can add "possibly found deceased" to the title.

Why has it taken this long for the truth to come out?

Avonte may have drowned after running from dog: sources

Family attorney said that the tapes they were given were not the complete tapes. -

“And that the thing that may be missing is what Commissioner Kelly spoke about, the confrontation, or the conversation, the brief one, between Avonte and the school safety agent where she saw him leaving the building,” he said.

“You can’t see in the tape that she says ‘Hello’ to him, she says ‘Where are you going?.’ She apparently says, ‘Go back to class.’ But she claimed to have seen him go up the stairs and stay in the school. That’s why the school was looking for him in the school. The problem is, the video tape shows he went out of the school. So she couldn’t have seen him go up the stairs. She could’ve said, ‘I think he went up the stairs. He went in the direction of the stairs.’ But she certainly didn’t see him go up the stairs,” he said.

“It does appear that she was seated at the table and the screen was in front of her, and she would’ve been able to see him walk out of the school. And in the video tape, she does go over to the door that he walked out of, two to three minutes after he walked out of it, and closes it. Very distressing information.”

I am so bothered by this. How can people work for a special needs school & live with themselves for withholding information like that? How can any of them not be eaten alive with guilt? I'm having problems replying; have to keep walking away because it makes me emotional and sick.

Considering it took an hour for them to contact anyone; chances are they were too late; but they would have saved his family 104 days of pure hell!. I was not following through Thanksgiving; Christmas; New Years... To have a missing child through holidays that are meant for children & families has to be the most excruciating pain any parent; sibling can feel.

How do the employees of the school celebrate these holidays with their own family when they know they're with holding information? They will have to answer for their sins when they meet their maker.

Repulsive!

This is all so horrendous. I'm speechless. :(

Regarding police tape around the home of the girl who found him.....it is entirely possible (given the rumour that she posted pics on social media) that police are enacting a warrant on her home to seize whatever devices she used to do that....iPhone, computer, iPad, whatever. Perhaps she isn't being forthcoming in assisting because she is ashamed at having done it?

all very possible------maybe she has some pix she doesnt want revealed of herself. Or she snapped a pic of a possible clue----was there a lag time between snapping pix, posting them on social media, telling her mother THEN calling NYPD??

This child has been done a great disservice by a few people it seems. What is wrong with people? Everybody is so afraid of being in trouble that their compassion goes out the window?
I saw a news segment the other day where an elderly person drove through a store front. Five people ran over and had their phones out snapping pics, and not one went to check on the driver until they were done with that. Made me sick.

Does anyone know if the photos she took are still up or if any screen shots are available?

Shades of Kyron Horman, as far as school being aware of where kids are, IMO...

I'm trying to understand if they think he went into the water in a "nearby park", how the body parts were found 11 miles *upstream"? Do things go upstream?

There's a post earlier that said that depending on the tide the river flows both ways. I never knew that.

I haven't posted in this thread but I have been reading and hoping for a much happier outcome than what appears to be happening. :( Avonte was failed by his school. :banghead::twocents:

As others have said, while the East River is called the East River, it is really a tidal strait. The direction of the river reverses 4 times a day with the tide. It's not a river in the way most people think of a river. The political (as in political map) names of things and the geographic reality of things in NYC can be very confusing.

So, there is no true "up river" or "down river" when it comes to the body of water called the East River.

The East River connects Long Island Sound and the Upper Bay. Long Island Sound is the body of salt water between the State of Connecticut and Long Island. The Upper Bay is where the State of Liberty is. Both are salt water and tidal entities. So, the East river is salt and not brackish the way some other NYC rivers are.

Hope this makes the set up a little more clear for those not used to the crazy web of water.

Don't really like the criticism that people have of how people can lose track of a kid/client.

Have any of you actually worked with a group of autistic kkds, be it in a home or school? Cause if you haven't there's no way for you to realize how difficult it is.

What if one of the other kids is acting up and you have to help calm down before he aggressors it? Just cause these kids autistic, doesn't mean they aren't very tricky/smart. You tirn your back for one second to help a co worker, and some of the kids will elope. Not as easy as people think it is.

As for GPS, there's no way the government would fund it. They won't even fund iPads for the kids despite the fact that it's the easiest and best way for them to communicate. When the government has to cut funds, you should all know by now who gets hurt the most, especially where I live. Funding for kids Elton disabilities

BBM Hmmm...that is a bit confusing to me, because as long as I've been following Avonte's case all the information above has been known. I don't really see anything new there. Except for the dog chasing him part, but I believe that has been discredited by LE. Just to be sure I'll find some earlier articles and link them here later this evening, I'm :offtobed: here in a bit. Have a great day, everyone.

BBM That is such a disturbing trend to me. Not too long ago a man fell into the path of a NY subway, and instead of helping him people whipped out their phones to start filming. He was run over and killed.

This place keeps sucking me back in! Now I'm REALLY off to sleep.

With regards to the student photographer, perhaps she was snapping pics out of uncertainty and curiosity as to what she was actually looking at. Then shared some of the photos with others to validate that what she saw might be real and a serious police matter. Social media would be a poor choice but texting pics at the scene seems feasible. Teens send quick pictures to friends of literally any daily occurrence, it's a second nature form of communication now. I doubt she had ever seen decomposition of human remains before and so she was probably skeptical about it. Once she got home and spoke w her mom she called 911. Just my two cents as a former young amateur school photographer who would've wanted support from friends or a parent immediately before calling authorities too... case in point is the resulting media and police attention.

I've been following this case from the start and it's heartbreaking. I still saw several missing posters hanging in stores as I did some errands in Manhattan yesterday. I hope there can be answers to what happened so improvements will be made...

I worked with this population and even emotionally compromised students. Yes they can run, but you don't watch them leave and and go about your business. I thought the tape said she went and looked out the door after he left. Then she said he went upstairs. I hope the truth comes out because it can't be both.

Conflicting reports on the dismemberment

Clothing on remains found along the East River shoreline in Queens — including this shirt an investigator is holding (center) — matches the outfit missing teen Avonte Oquendo was wearing when he disappeared.

The NYPD and crime scene investigators search for evidence along the East River. Police sources say the body appears to have separated via decomposition, not a violent act.

Just after 7 p.m. Thursday, police found a left arm that police sources said appeared to have separated via decomposition — rather than a violent act. Police divers returned to the cold and murky water on Friday, feeling around the underwater rocks while wearing heavy gloves. Other cops searched the shoreline using cadaver dogs. They shut down the search by nightfall and were expected to resume at 7 a.m. Saturday.

In all, they found legs in boys’ size 16 Old Navy jeans, a size 51/2 Air Jordan sneaker and a striped shirt — all consistent with the outfit Avonte was wearing when he went missing.

Cops found the legs about 15 to 20 feet from the arm on a set of rocks. On Friday, cops found what appeared to be a human jawbone, a source told The News. They have also located possible rib bones and a partial pelvis.

Fruit of the Loom underwear — size large — were found on the body, offering a glimmer of hope for the family. Fontaine said she dressed her son in Hanes underwear.
