Yes, I don't think they covered it for the entire hour, I'm not sure, I missed it too. This is all I could find, no full episodes.

Interview with his brothers,,,
They say he only just started attending that school. It has only been open for one month. Only familiar with the bus route.
Although I recall one of the brothers, in another interview, saying that Avonte had come there by train with his mother (before starting the bus.)

BBM. They didn't cover it for the entire hour, it was the last segment of about 5 different segments that show.

That could still be consistent with a 7 year old's mental ability though, IMO. A 7 year old would know to look in both directions if he were trying to sneak away from someplace.

My 6 year old Grandson is autistic and I can tell you, he is quite capable of 'sneaking' out. I think it's because they are under constant supervision that they seek that independence, not knowing the danger. He also 'sneaks' into other mischief. He can be sitting quietly and you step away for a minute, say to use the bathroom, and come back to a huge mess. They truly require constant supervision, it's frightening.

You said before every time he ran away they found him at the subway station? Do you know what subway station that was and was he found at the same station every time?

No details were given in the reports I heard, like where or when. Only that he ran off but was found shortly after in the subway.

I've been surprised at how many people here that I've known for a while are related to or know someone that is autistic. I had no idea autism was so far reaching. I've learned a lot about autism through Avonte and have a much better understanding and a greater respect for parents and their wonderful autistic children. Bless y'all.

MTA suspends all subway maintenance in search of missing autistic boy Avonte Oquendo

From your link:

MTA officials took the unprecedented step of halting overnight track maintenance and ordered at least 200 workers to instead scour the tunnels for Avonte Oquendo, a missing, 14-year-old, autistic boy.

A Metropolitan Transit Authority memo obtained by the Daily News detailed an “all-out blitz to locate Avonte. . . . Every portion of track within the subway shall be inspected without fail” beginning Thursday evening.

The dragnet will comb all 468 stations, extending to stations at City Hall, Myrtle Ave. and elsewhere.

Thinking out loud here. From my experience with autistic children, they don't like change. He just started a new school. I'm thinking he missed his old school, his friends, his schedule and most likely his teachers. I don't know where he attended school before but maybe that was his motivation for running out. He seemed to understand he had to check the halls out before dashing out the door. Never underestimate a child and his capabilities. I wonder how far his old school is from his new one and are they constantly checking the area around the old school?

I had just been thinking the same thing, Plumeria! Since Avonte was at a new school, he may have wanted to get back to his former school. As far as he was concerned, he was in the wrong place. If he took the subway/train that he took with his mom, I wonder if he would know which train to take from there to his former school.

I think Avonte likely had a specific destination in mind when he bolted. I have to agree with others that he probably got lost, or else he would have gone home by now; unless he felt he needed to go to the old school first, but couldn't find it on his own. I hope LE search that route. Someone also mentioned warehouses along the route (I don't remember now if it was along the route home from his new school, or between home and his former school). Warehouses and other large or abandoned building would provide the shelter Avonte needs at night. Those also need to be searched -- along both routes.

I hope Avonte is found soon. NYC is such a huge place. :(

"Ms. Fontaine, a single mother with four other sons, said the school called her an hour after Avonte disappeared. She arrived about an hour after that, she said. School officials asked her to make an announcement over the school’s loudspeaker, in case he was hiding somewhere in the school. ...there was a fight in the lunchroom that distracted some aides.

The school is used by students with and without special needs. Ms. Fontaine said Avonte is in District 75, the Department of Education’s program for children with the most severe needs.
He had just arrived at the school as a freshman this year, she said.

Mr. Walcott said Thursday that Avonte’s individualized education plan required him to have not more than six students in a class with one teacher and one paraprofessional."

While I understand the lawsuit, I wish it would wait until Avonte is found!

A time and a place, but now is not the time. JMO

Unfortunately, as a parent of a severely, non verbal 21 year old- abused by his teacher...the lawsuit is not really filing suit but the RIGHT to file suit. She has to do it now, and hopefully an attorney is handling it and not burdening her with any of it.

Especially when you are suing a State Agency which she is asking for the RIGHT to do, even after he is found. You have strict timelines to follow once you have been informed of the violation of law, civil right, duty of care and the harm it has caused. The trauma and cost to her, and Avonte is unmeasurable. etc. It will be a year or more before she will even FILE suit, in court most likely..
