Found Deceased NY - Avonte Oquendo, 14, Long Island City, 4 Oct 2013

If Avonte did hop a train, I doubt he's being cared for by an average citizen. It would be very difficult for someone to detain Avonte in their home when he is prone to bolting. I've wondered to myself where he could possibly be successfully detained and the most likely place would be a jail or, since Avonte is obviously a teen, it would be more likely he was sent to a juvenile detention facility or mental health facility.

I hope word gets out to every police station, juvenile detention facility and hospital in the nation (he could be anywhere by now). While I hope he is safe and being cared for by professionals, I have a hard time going there because he would have been seen by someone at a train station in NY and LE would at least know which direction he traveled. :(

The quick notification of a missing person will result in a quick return to home. At the time of Avonte's missing status if an Alert was sent out to everyone phones, radio station, etc an awareness would have taken place to be on the look out for this child. Lets not let this happen again for any child or person with the inabliity to communicate." http://www.change.org/petitions/new-york-state-senate-create-avonte-s-alert-named-for-avonte-oquendo?share_id=BfTfiytFTE&utm_campaign=twitter_link&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=share_petition

How would Avonte be able to get on a train without paying for a ticket? Remember this is special needs child who is unable to speak or communicate. In Long Island city all the trains are local trains that run within the city limits. There isnt an amtrak line in that area that Avonte could travel on that would lead him out of New York City. I highly doubt he could of gotten on a train 3 weeks ago and still not be found. I also doubt he went underneath or jumped over any of the turnstyles that are located at MTA Trainstations in NYC . The reward for his safe return is 75,000 dollars. I cannot see the 8 million people who live in this city overlooking this young child.

I hate to say it, but with great pain, I believe that boy fell into the East River. The river flows out to the Atlantic.

Although I disagree with you about the ability to ride free, having lived in NYC all my life, my kids always ducked under. I will agree, sadly, that after NYPD searched all 428 stations and reviewed hundreds of hours of surveillance video, there has been no sign of him. None. Considering the dogs lost his scent at the waters edge, and the statistics for drownings in the autistic community are very high, the outcome does not look good. I reviewed the recent history of known drownings in the East River and many of them were never found due to the strong currents through the straits. And, unfortunately, most of them were teenage males. I want to hold out hope, for his family's sake. :please:

I was born and raised her my entire life. I knew kids that could jump the turnstyle and get onto the trains(Believe me I used to do it). But most of the trains that here in NYC run within the 4 boroughs.

My only question is if he drowned wouldn't his body float to the surface of the river?

Yes, that's true, that the trains are mainly local. I think the train near his school was the 7 and he was also familiar with riding the Queens Blvd train. The connections to LIRR and the Path into NJ would require meeting a conductor and a needing a ticket. Although, I can see a conductor letting him slide, but they would likely have reported seeing him after the fact. I don't know much about how long it takes to surface, but I think there are multiple factors involved. What I did read indicated several people that were never found, presumably swept out to sea.

"According to the marine sciences section of the city Department of Environmental Protection, the channel is swift, with water moving as fast as four knots (just as it does in the Hudson River on the other side of Manhattan). That speed can push casual swimmers out to sea. A few people drown in the waters around New York City each year.[4] " East River - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I have seen this circulating on Facebook too.

Bumping this thread up for Avonte. Any news this morning?

Tried to post anonymously online at NYC Crimestoppers today but received an error message. Social media websites for Avonte discourage sharing of info on their sites. Understandable. Anyone else experiencing problems with NYC Crimestoppers?

If their website is not working, perhaps you can call NYC information to get a crimestopper phone number if one is available.

To call information, what I use is
1-area code-555-1212 (example 1-212-555-1212 for Manhattan)
and that usually works. Below are the area codes (like 212 for Manhattan) for some main NYC area codes.

You could ask information if there is a crimestopper phone number listed.

Any luck since then? If not, depending on the info you have to share, try the non emergency police number for your area or even 911 if necessary.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The NYPD has sent out officers to investigate, after a teenager snapped a photo of someone resembling the missing autistic teen Avonte Oquendo.

The 13-year-old boy took the photo Tuesday on an E or F line train, police told CBS 2. It shows a boy in a rumpled beige jacket and green khaki pants sitting on a subway train looking straight ahead.

Police said they have alerted transit officers to pay particular attention.

As CBS 2’s Dave Carlin reported, police experts and family members have said they could not be certain that the boy in the picture was Avonte. But they said it was a concrete lead and will be followed.

I can't tell if it's the same person either but the earlobe shape seems to be the same in both pics. I hope they can find Avonte safe.

Praying they will find him before Halloween. The costumes might scare him.

:please:

i came to post the same thing..

Avonte’s mother, Vanessa Fontaine, was not entirely convinced Wednesday night that the photo was of her child.

“I don’t celebrate yet, but I’m saying keep hope alive,” Fontaine said. “There’s hope there that it may be him.”
