HOPE to #findAvonte www.findAvonte.org > "Bloodhounds
Avonte was last seen on surveillance video running out of Center Boulevard School. Three hours later, bloodhounds traced his scent to a marsh near his school, but lost the trail, a source close to the investigation said.

An hour later, the bloodhounds picked up his scent again, this time at a nearby subway station, the source said...."

What was the subway station and where all did it go? They should probably check there.

Please do not lose hope.We just need to keep looking for Avonte.

It was the #7 train near his school. The train was immediately shut down and searched. It's just that I lived in that area and I feel that he would have been seen by now. Look at how quickly we tracked down the look-a-likes. :please:

HauntsforHope:

I remembered your earlier post (see #183) in which you had indicated that his scent was traced to Van Dam St, not a "marshy area".

I think you had written that you had gotten it from a Facebook page. All other accounts that I have read stated dogs had lost the scent near a marsh, then subsequently picked it up again at the subway station.

Did a little digging regarding bloodhounds. Seems like there is a distinction among tracking dogs (nose to the ground trailing), cadaver dogs and dogs that pick up the scent from the air.
The scent specimen the dogs get the scent from is often an article of clothing or a pillow case or something similar that not only has the scent of the object they are trying to find, but usually includes other people's scents too.

For example, a child's scented clothing (specimen) would have the mom's scent on it and possibly his teachers as well since a teacher may have touched him on the head.
So, the dogs will follow the primary scent on the article initially. Then, if they no longer can pick up the primary scent anywhere, they might follow the secondary person's scent instead.

Could be that at the subway they picked up may have been from some close family member like mom or grandma, or whomever's scent(s) was on the original specimen that the dogs were working from? It does not necessarily mean that it was AVonte scent picked up at the subway. I am no expert, but that is what I was able to learn from researching tracking/trailing dogs. In short, different dogs have specialized training to perform specific tracking tasks.

I am more interested in the discrepancy between the "marsh" scent and the "Van Dam" St" scent. Also, if the dogs were trail "nose to the ground" dogs and then suddenly lost AVonte's scent, does this mean the poor kid was snatched up and put in a vehicle like a car or truck?????

Which account is accurate??? Seems pretty important since near a marsh would imply a drowning and the busy, commercial intersection of Van Dam would imply an abduction I think. Any thoughts, anyone?

Also, what has me very terrified is that if you search the database of sex offenders for that area (11101) an address for a homeless veteran's shelter pops up more than once. I can not give the address here as I do not think it is allowed, but anyone can access the info themselves.

The address is quite close to Avonte's school.

It is extremely likely that that is probably one of the first places LE investigated. However, subways are not the only means of egress in that area judging from the number of railyards and trucking companies in close proximity to Avonte's school. There are a lot of construction sites there as well, but I think they probably would have been checked over and over again.

HauntsforHope, can you provide link for source re scent traced to Van DAm St as opposed to the "marshy area"?

Thanks.

Finally, lots of area residents have claimed that there is PLENTY surveillance in that area, yet LE says that it is "grainy" and that they are still reviewing them. Still? I am not convinced we are getting the entire story. On the other hand, I am not sure that the public should know all the details either since, to my knowledge, it remains an active investigation. I know plenty of reasonable, intelligent people that really believe that abduction as a theory for Avonte's mysterious disappearance is highly plausible.

Way too many unanswered questions. Why no amber alert??????????????????????

Anyone with experience with autistic people will tell you that these kids stand out by their unusual mannerisms, repetitive behaviors, general awkwardness, etc. It is the sine qua non of autism. It screams "autism" to the trained eye and "atypical"/ "abnormal" to the untrained eye. He was sure to have been spotted by more than one person, that I believe with all my heart. It is definitely not a case where he would have been mistaken for a mentally unstable adult. He still looks young for his 14 years and was probably capering around joyfully just like he was doing in the video showing him exiting the school. A disabled child would have attracted plently of attention, with or without an "escort".

Dear God in heaven, help us find this child.......

"Bring Avonte Home

It is a little windy in NYC today, but the flight is still a go for now! A banner reading "Bring Avonte Oquendo Home 1-800-577-TIPS" will fly over Queens, Long Island City and the East River today between 1 and 2 PM. ABC Eyewitness News (Channel 7 in the area) will cover the flight and be in front of Avonte's school when the banner flies overhead. Keep an eye out for it. But most important task of the day - keep an eye out for Avonte. Lets find him!"

"BRING AVONTE HOME

The search for missing autistic teenager Avonte Oquendo took to the sky Sunday.

A volunteer pilot flew a plane with a banner, encouraging people to help in the efforts to find the 14-year old from Queens.

The plane flew over Manhattan and Queens Sunday afternoon.

We like to thank Mr. Stripp who made all of this possible and a huge success.

Please post all the pictures of videos on Social Media to keep Avonte in the media and get us even much closer to Bring Avonte Home!"

Thanks for asking, in an early post on the FindAvonte facebook page, an autism organization administrator posted a comment indicating she had just been to the command post and was told by family that the dogs tracked him to Van Dam near 33rd. That was as far as it was vetted. I think she may have mis-spoke, because he was actually walking on Vernon. However, in later posts I indicated that Commissioner Kelly reported the video shows him entering Hunters Point South Park and that the dogs tracked him to the marshy area near the river and then later picked him up at the local train station. I hope that answers your question :) http://inhabitat.com/nyc/photos-hun...in-long-island-city/hunters-point-south-park/

I did some additional research this morning. Apparently she was correct. "Police sources said NYPD K-9 dogs searching for the teen in the hours after he disappeared picked up a trail that led them to an area on Van Dam Street, near LaGuardia Community College. Cops searched the area but to no avail, the sources said." http://www.qgazette.com/news/2013-11-06/Front_Page/Leads_Running_Out_In_Search_For_Oquendo.html "Investigators have also viewed more than 495 videos since the disappearance. Images contained on those tapes have led to the recovery of three other missing children, two who went missing from other precincts and one who was reported missing by authorities in New Jersey, officials said." https://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF...97478&ei=eeOAUvTDCIT7kQf28oCADg&ved=0CKwBEPwS

HauntsforHope,

MWAAAH!!! Thank you, thank you.

You and your search engine are on fire!!! Lots of disinformation, unfortunately.
I have spent so much time searching everything, looking for commonalities. Your info supports a theory I have which I can not share here. Haved shared it with LE though. Let me know which search engine you are using. Better yet, keep it to yourself. Have never been able to access as much as you have, though!

Awesome. Thanks again.

Don't know why, but this one little guy has my heart in a vice grip. Big time.

Keep the faith.

Beloved child, people are moving heaven and earth trying to find you. Just wanted to put that out there................................................

I hope the recent celebrity involvement and possible fresh infusion of donations translates into the family hiring the best private investigative help money can buy if the family feels NYPD's investigation has gone cold. I believe the public would help out to defray the cost of it for the family.

Also, it would tap into segments of society that do not trust or feel comfortable talking to the police since relationships between NYPD and certain NYC communities are strained. Despite NYPD's claim of complete anonymity with their tip line, certain segments avoid the police for a myriad of reasons such as immigration status, pending warrant etc, etc. Maybe a private investigator would be more effective with this demographic?

Again, if I were the child's relative and I became aware that the NYPD investigation had come to a halt, I would facilitate anonymous submissions of tips from the general public and encourage the public to re-submit old ones. I would offer several options for anonymous means of communications such as private post office boxes, private phone lines, etc.

Not everyone likes or trusts the cloud that is social media.

Until HauntsforHope recent posting, I was unaware that Avonte had been spotted near Laguardia Community College. The college is not particularly close to Avonte's school, unlike the veteran's homeless shelter on Borden Avenue which is very close to his school. It is my understanding that as a condition to the resident's staying at the shelter, they must comply with job seeking or therapy sessions. Could be wrong and not trying to speculate wildly, but Laguardia CC does offer programs for veterans, Also, NY state has recently passed a bill to re-hire veterans by offering tax incentives of 5k to companies that hire them and 15K for disabled veterans.

While this is just and while we owe vets every support service for their military service, I wonder if these tax incentives apply to vets with non-physical disabilities?. Does it apply to those with mental illness as well? Anyone know? Anyone know if any local businesses participate in these hiring practices? Especially businesses that involves trucking or heavy local transportation?

Additionally, this tax break applies to post 9/11 vets so the target demographic may be relatively younger vets.

Where is this little angel??? I am no longer optimistic about amber alerts or NYPD finding him as every day brings new cases for NYPD to solve, new missing persons to look for and the publicity for Avonte becomes more and more scarce.

It never ceases to amaze me how the evil or callousness of just one single person can have such massive ripple effects. If that one guard or that one para, teacher or principal at Avonte's school had given enough of a crap about the very people they get paid to safeguard, this family would not be living this nightmare.

Here in NYC, school principals are well compensated, making north of 90K/yr. Any kook could have gotten in just as easily as Avonte got out. An unsecured door and "safety" guard with a cavalier attitude is inexcusable, irresponsible and negligent. If a parent had behaved in such a manner, it would have been just cause for child protective services to have gotten involved .

I know many people would probably donate generously towards a fund for private investigation.
Many people feel as strongly as I do about a very vulnerable child having gone lost and alone in this very cold city. It is bone-chilling.

If someone that fits that profile had something to do with his disappearance, my guess is that he had assistance from at least one other.

I think that the other sightings in the week immediately after Avonte went missing in different parts of the city are probably legitimate and not coincidental. Mostly in affluent neighborhoods.

Where can this angel be???

It was kind of you to have shared that. I hope that it resulted in a good outcome or at the very least, the comfort of closure.

BTW, I am a mom of an ASD child too. You probably sensed it, no doubt. We are a harried bunch for sure, but always show solidarity for our own.

The ASD community has shown overwhelming support for Avonte.

Oh, maybe you could reach out to the family with a referral if local?
