Bebe Rexha had to have 'three stitches' in her face after being struck in the face by a fan's phone while in concert in New York City on Sunday.

The 33-year-old singer was playing a concert Sunday at The Rooftop at Pier 17 on her Best F'n Night Of My Life tour.

Rexha, a Grammy-nominated artist, had been performing and was making her way to the front of the stage when she was smacked in the face by the device.

Authorities confirmed to DailyMail.com that Nicolas Malvagna, 27, from New Jersey, had been arrested and charged with assault.

Seconds after the incident Rexha, a Brooklyn native, fell to her knees with her head down as multiple crew members in the wings rushed to her aid before she was taken to hospital.

Fans immediately alerted security to the man who allegedly threw the phone, who was then taken away by security.

Nicolas Malvagna, of Manalapan, "intentionally" threw the phone at the 33-year-old artist, hitting her in her face and causing her to collapse to her knees during her Sunday, June 18 performance, at The Rooftop at Pier 17, a spokesperson for the NYPD tells Daily Voice.

Horrible. And it's not nearly the first incident of people throwing random stuff at artists in the last few years. Phones. Disposable cameras (yes, really). Bottles. Why would anyone do that???

Most people can accurately tell you that a phone is for calling or texting someone and the like, but one concertgoer allegedly confessed he threw a phone at pop star Bebe Rexha over the weekend because he thought “it would be funny.” The individual, since identified as 27-year-old Nicolas Malavagna — reported to be a luxury dog kennel worker and New Jerseyan — has now hired a well-known attorney to defend him in the assault and harassment case.

[...]

That man was Todd Spodek, an attorney famously portrayed by actor Arian Moayed in “Inventing Anna,” a Netflix series about the arrest and prosecution of “fake heiress” Anna Sorokin (a.k.a., Anna Delvey). Spodek also represented the Ghislaine Maxwell juror who claimed it was an “inadvertent mistake” when he denied being a victim of sexual abuse in a jury questionnaire.

[...]

In court, Spodek reportedly elaborated on a TikTok trend where concert attendees throw phones on stage in the hopes that a star will catch it, take a selfie with it, and return the device.

Yeah as I was saying, it's literally a trend to throw stuff at musicians. Heavy stuff that could hurt them. So stupid! It might result in no-phones or cameras-policy. Say bye bye to concert footage and pictures taken to preserve the memory then (although some artists are against filming while attending gigs too, which I have mixed feelings about, I understanding wanting to take a few pictures to capture the moment but filming the entire time ruins the experience).

My guess would be to show their dislike of these artists? Which sounds a bit bizarre but could also be a possible reason for why these people throw things at them.
