Why did he keep it? I’m hoping we’ll learn more.
I seriously doubt he will be granted bail. It's reasonable to assume that this chess-playing schemer has made escape plans over the years, and having a passport in a different name (and for Saudi Arabia?!) sure seems to support that.

If he gets bail, it would be a huge shock to the public, imo.

Seems like if he made it to Saudi Arabia, he would be untouchable to USA authorities. That's just my guess - I don't know.

Rossmiller back up for the prosecution again
Rossmiller on defense statute 1591 is "enslavement" & "pimping people out": "Your honor, it's underage girls that are involved in this case, and it's underage girls that are the victims," Rossmiller notes, emphasizing consent can't be an issue and saying elements of crime met.
Rossmiller says that Epstein's asking for "special treatment" to be locked up in his "gilded cage.”

This is a perfect use of the term “flying monkeys”!!

To make the reference clear:

Flying monkeys (popular psychology) - Wikipedia
I just followed that link - very interesting!!

I can see that term being used in other cases on WS - I'm thinking of some perp's mothers who could be defined as a flying monkey. In this particular case, flying monkeys could be the women he ensnared to find girls for him.

I hate those flying monkeys in Wizard of Oz, but what a perfect term to use - provides good insight in the atmosphere around a narcissist.

Thanks.

I hope we’ll learn more too. Why did he have it to begin with? No name on it? Is he buddies with notorious Crown Prince MbS?

Just a word about "enslavement." I think it totally fits in this case.

The girls were given money - hundreds of dollars at a time, and likely much more. They were housed in nice places, went to exotic locations on private jets.

But what was spent on them was a tiny token - hardly a drop to a man of JE's wealth.

Yet, he made his empire from their labor and time. He easily made money and gained great influence because of the girls. Toss 'em a few gifts and compliments once in awhile = cheap labor.

There are very likely people who say the girls liked the life, wanted to stay, enjoyed the work, lived in easy comfort. All things that are typically said of enslaved people.

If they weren't enslaved, then why not let them in on the scheme and pay them according to the money they brought in?

Annie Farmer, one of Epstein's accusers: "I was 16-years-old when I had the misfortune to meet" Jeffrey Epstein, and she was flown into New Mexico. "His wealth, his privilege and the notoriety of the case would make it... more difficult," Farmer says, her voice cracking.

Courtney Wild (sp?, need to double check): "I was sexually abused by Jeffrey Epstein starting at the age of 14." Berman: Where did that occur? CW: In Palm Beach, Fl

On Epstein counsel claiming their client had been "disciplining himself" since 2005, Rossmiller says: "The defendant keeps telling on himself here." It concedes predisposition.

Berman is asking defense about N.Y. post report
Epstein was not in compliance
@KlasfeldReports
Epstein's counsel replied there has been no notice of violation, outside of media reports. Berman also presses him on sex-offender registration in New Mexico, where Epstein's counsel said he's not required to register.

There were no violations because no one was monitoring him. What's up with New Mexico and no requirement to register as a sex offender? Doesn't sound like a good place to raise a family, if that's the case. Of course, not everyone has a choice to move to another state.

"disciplining himself" since 2005,
Snipped

That made me laugh out loud.

Can you even imagine that phrase being used in other cases we follow?! Absurd.

edited to add: And, it's untrue! He had a stash in a safe in his home that demonstrates he was not self-disciplined.

I think the big takeaway today is that Saudi passport. Why? How? What's the link to that?

Epstein's lawyer says Madoff (ponzi schemer) got bail. I hope that argument doesn't work. Madoff wasn't accused of the same crimes as Epstein is.

Epstein might have committed white-collar crimes, but he used raping teens to do it. That's a whole different level. Not the same as merely scamming investors.

(Whoever thought there would be a worse financial criminal than Madoff?!)

The US business world is full of them. Sort of like a major bed-bug infestation on Wall Street, Big Banks, etc.

Many "investment companies" today, like shadow banking firms, private equity funds, etc. engage in activities that used to be illegal in the U.S. In many ways, investment banking is pretty much the same thing that Mafia "loan sharks" used to do. They invest in a corporation, then force them to take out high interest loans from their investment bank while they strip the assets from the business. When the business fails, they get to sell it to another company that repeats the same process. Not certain, but I think this is what has been happening to Toys R Us, Sears, etc.
