A Queens woman whose infant son died under mysterious circumstances has disappeared with her 2-year-old daughter, police said Tuesday.
The Administration for Children’s Services told police that when a caseworker showed up at Carla Garriques' Jamaica home on Saturday she and her daughter, Sole Simplice, were nowhere to be found.
ACS was there to take custody of Sole while authorities investigate the death the night before of Garriques’s 7-month-old son, Kameri Garriques.
Police said the mother called 911 at 9:46 p.m. Friday saying little Kameri was unresponsive. Medics rushed the baby, who was lying face up on the couch, to Jamaica Hospital but he could not be saved.
The mother told investigators she had put Kameri to sleep and later realized he was unconscious.
Kameri had no signs of trauma on his body but appeared underweight, authorities said. Doctors told police he had no food in his stomach.
Police said the mother has a history of drug abuse, though it wasn’t immediately clear if ACS had previously investigated her. She has two other children, both of whom live with their father, police said.
Garriques and Sole were last seen at their home on Liberty Ave. near Camden Ave. at 11 a .m. Saturday.
The NYPD released photos of the mother and daughter early Tuesday and asked the public’s help finding them.
The mother, police said, has not been labeled a suspect or person of interest in her son’s death, the cause of which has not yet been determined.
