I found this story pretty interesting. Apparently the accused really doesn't seem the type for such a crime. Renato Seabra is only 20 and has had a really full and interesting life for his young years. Is there a reason to think this wasn't a crime of passion? I've found 11 links to different news story about this : http://bit.ly/eyZmhy

Model Castrated Journalist With Corkscrew To Banish Gay Demons

Male model Renato Seabra confessed yesterday to the brutal killing of 65-year-old Portuguese journalist Carlos Castro and has been charged with second-degree murder. He also went into chilling detail about why and how he beat and castrated Castro. One police source told the Daily News, "He said he did it to get rid of [Castro's] homosexual demons."

Though it was suspected that Seabra and Castro were a couple, Seabra told police, "I'm not gay anymore!" Seabra's mother seems to have a conflicting story, saying, "My son was not Carlos Castro's lover. From the beginning, he never hid his sexuality, which is heterosexual." She described him as shy and religious, and said, "My son, being a golden boy, who is so good, he didn't do this."

Seabra is currently at Bellevue Hospital Center for a psychiatric evaluation and to be treated for the self-inflicted cuts to his wrists.

From December 2012:

A former fashion model who was convicted of murdering and mutilating his journalist companion in a Times Square hotel barely fluctuated his soft voice on Friday as he tried to describe what drove him to incredible violence...

At his sentencing in State Supreme Court in Manhattan, where a judge handed him the maximum term, 25 years to life in prison, for second-degree murder, Mr. Seabra, 23, still bore the good looks that once won him a modeling contest in his native Portugal and brought him to the attention of Mr. Castro, who was 65...
