A woman was walking on a trail early Sunday evening in a remote, wooded part of Chautauqua County when she thought she saw something like a glass bottle.

It turned out to be a human skull.

The next day, as forensic anthropologists were excavating the rest of the skeleton, sheriff's deputies searching the area made another grisy discovery: a decomposed body.

The skeletal remains may have been there for decades, Chautauqua County Sheriff Jim Quattrone said Tuesday. "The second one was likely within the year."

More at A skull was found off a trail. The next day, searchers discovered a second body.

Depending on how recent the second set of remains is, they're unlikely to belong to any of the three women named in the article. Assuming they're right about female--at this early stage, I wouldn't want to bet on it.

According to Namus, there are three women missing from Buffalo, which is only about an hour away, since 2020. Many more if you go back another couple of years.

She could also be from over the border--Niagara Falls, Hamilton, Mississauga area.

...another set of remains.
... appeared to have only been there for less than a year.
It’s unclear whether they are that of a male or female.

[snip] Dr. Dennis Dirkmaat, the chair of Mercyhurst’s Department of Applied Forensic Sciences, says an analysis of this type can take a while, with anthropologists careful to document everything they find. “We’ll look at the bones. We’ll look at the condition of the bones and the soft tissue,” Dirkmaat said. “That will further solidify our estimate of the post-mortem interval. And then the other thing is – how much of the body do we have and what does it tell us about the biological profile? The age, sex, stature, ancestry. Things like that.”

I hope LE finds the person(s) who did this to her.
Rest in peace, Marquita. My condolences go out to her loved ones.

One of bodies found in Chautauqua County IDed as missing Buffalo woman

Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone said.[snip] ..."I believe because of the manner of disposal that there was foul play involved," he said. “I personally don’t believe she was killed on the trail. We have no evidence of that.” [snip] Mull had no known connection to Chautauqua County. "We do believe someone brought her to this location,"

All for the older set of remains. I wonder if they have an idea about the other one. Obviously for us it's wait and see :p
Currently 18 rule outs. The only Chautauqua County MP not yet ruled out is Patricia Laemmerhirt.

Chautauqua County Sheriff finally got approved to start up a MUCH needed cold case unit.

RIP beautiful Marquita-we’ll never stop fighting for answers/justice.

Mull's body was found in some thick brush off the Rails to Trails hiking area — a day after a hiker found what they believed was a human skull and resulted in the discovery of human remains. When investigators were conducting a grid search for other evidence, they came across Mull's body 10 yards from the spot where the first person was buried.

Unlike the first body, Quattrone said at a press conference that no attempt was made to bury Mull's body.

Mull was last seen on June 25, 2021, in Erie County and was reported missing to authorities the following month.

"Even though she had her issues, she was a great person," Mull's sister, Wendy, told The Post-Journal in an interview. "I loved her with all my heart. She was just so sweet, and when she died, my heart died."

Because Mull was a resident of Erie County, the Sheriff's Office said it's possible the "unidentified person may also be from the Erie County area in New York."

Anyone with information on Mull's disappearance or the unidentified woman is asked to call investigator Jacob Stahley at 716-753-4973 or send an email to UnsolvedChautauqua@sheriff.us.

Rumor has it…Someone was arrested in Buffalo, NY the week of June 20, 2023 for holding a victim against their will/possible rape and the term serial killer was mentioned. Did this DNA come back in the database as dna that could potentially solve other crimes ? The arrest was confirmed to me by local LE stating they are still working the case but nobody is currently being charged with murder as a result yet.
