Found Deceased NY - Cody Johnson, 39, & dog, may be in a heavily wooded area, Watson, Lewis County, 12 Oct 2024

Yes, there is water in that area. The odd thing to me is that if CJ is deceased, where is the dog???
If CJ is deceased, they'll probably find his dog beside or, if he's in the water, very nearby him. moo

County Sheriff Mike Carpinelli says the body of 39-year-old Cody Johnson has been found off a trail near Stony Lake in the town of Watson.

Carpinelli says Johnson’s dog, which is a service animal, was found next to Johnson. The sheriff says the dog is fine.

Heartbreaking news. Prayers for Cody and his family. His Best friend was with him.

Indeed! Bless them both. (heartbroken for them both.) I was pretty sure his Pittie would be found beside him. I'm glad at least he or she survived. They are incredibly loyal and bonded to their humans. It's going to be a rough go for the dog. I hope the dog has other well-known family who can take him in. What a terribly sad outcome. I was so hoping they'd be going home alive together.

That is a comforting thought. Thank you for sharing that.

Did Cody become lost in the dense forest and succumb to hypothermia? Or is this looking like something else altogether? TIA

Not the outcome I was hoping for. RIP Cody.

It hasn't been reported so I'm guessing it was a suicide. The dog's name is Afton and is going to live with a family member.

I'm very glad Afton will be living with a family member. This case is so sad.

Johnson’s dog Afton acted as his service animal and refused to leave his deceased owner’s side.

Lewis County Sheriff Mike Carpinelli said the four-day search for Johnson came to an end when a volunteer found his body near a camping spot they were familiar with.

He is believed to have died as a result of the cold.

Dogs are, to me, such amazing souls. I'd like to think CJ fell asleep with Afton curled up against his side, and that he had no idea that he wouldn't wake up in the morning. Praying for his surviving family, including Afton.
