I always hate this, because I think Colin could be alive out there.
But, since he dropped identification, if he was killed, he would probably be an UID.

Here are a couple interesting possibilities.
https://identifyus.org/en/cases/10456 height is 1 inch off, age fits, weight is off by 5 pounds - obviously the timeframe is iffy
https://identifyus.org/en/cases/12979 height is a match, age fits, weight is off by about 20 pounds - timeframe is again, iffy, but hair color matches

Let me know what you think!

snipped

Investigators believe that Keyes killed and buried a victim in upstate New York in April 2009. “He also told us about a couple in Washington state, another victim in that area, and possibly others in surrounding states,” Goeden said."

I am pretty sure the 2009 potential victim was a woman, Debra Feldman. In courts, he hesitated at her pictures.

I could definitely see a connection.

Silent Sleuth,

Your link with the timeline makes it almost impossible for Keyes to be in New York, since he was at the ATM in Texas and arrested shortly after, unless somehow someone else besides Keyes had the debit card of the other deceased person.

I think that it is fairly unlikely that Colin was a victim of his. LE is fairly certain that the woman he killed(Samantha Koenig) was his last victim.

It's scary to think how many more of these murders he would have gone through with if he was not caught!

Silent Sleuth,

I never looked at these unidentified before. I have to read up more on that. I would say a guy like Keyes was likely to leave a body a great distance from the actual crime scene. This guy was around Tupper Lake in his past. That is scary. Keyes hung out in park and remote type areas for prey. That is what we have here.

Silent Sleuth,

Your second unidentified listing was interesting, but we still can't place Keyes in New York on that date. Arizona is also a place where Keyes used the debit card.

If Colin was the second UID, he would have almost definitely not have been a victim of Keyes. It would imply that he was either on his own a short while after his disappearance, or was held captive for a period of time. The post-mortem interval on Namus says '3 months.' This is why I think that that specific UID is probably not Colin.

But at the same time, the weight loss is consistent with being held captive or going off the grid.

I just realized that both the UID and Colin have DNA in. Not sure if that would be an automatic ruleout.

Where is Colin?

Still thinking of Colin! I will continue to pray that he is found and brought home to his family.

I could not help but think of the Colin story today, with the arctic blast hitting our area tonight, taking temps near 0. One of the things I thought of was what it must have been like on that cold walk along the woods for Colin. This is a story that haunts you.

This case is SO FRUSTRATING! How is it that (seemingly) so many other cases are solved quickly w far less info available??? Seriously. My heart skips a beat whenever Colin's name appears on my NEW POSTS page. And then...The big letdown. He was walking along...and..."POOF" he was gone. That's all we have correct? Ugh!!!!!!!!!!:ufo:

I can't believe it's been three years. Something's gotta give. The story surrounding Colin's disappearance has always bothered me to the nth degree. Someone close to the scene that night knows what happened IMO.

YUP really tough pill to swallow, 3 years ago LAST NIGHT, Colin was at that dayum party amongst supposed friends, happy to be home for spring break - free from school stresses.

Although apparently, the pressure at the party was mounting...I wonder if Colin had a sense of something bad about to happen.

Regardless, 3 years ago TODAY the search was on!

The announcers on the local radio are talking about Colin right now.

I want him home so badly. :(

Is it ever possible to read all the evidence in the case? I mean actually look at it? Or can only LE do that?

That's an excellent question searcher8621, considering that recent news story is the same as all the other's - 3 long years of nothing but a big fat donut "O". Zero. Full of nothing. Empty. Nada. A tiny bit of fluff for with the donut.

Why even bother???...How's anyone local suppose to realize they KNOW anything. GIVE SOMETHING.

Nothing from nothing gets nothing.

:moo: :cow:

Where the "bleep" is Colin ALREADY?!?!?!

Sheesheemeneesh!

It makes one wonder WHY no information is ever shared? It makes me wonder about those with the information, and their motives for keeping this case out of the limelight. Is there some protected person?

Hi everyone,

I have spent a couple days catching up on this case and mulling it over, and have a few thoughts/questions:

If Colin did not have his coat on, hypothermia would have set in by the time he was seen or shortly afterwards, and could explain the staggering. I know you have all kicked this around also, but it should not be dismissed so easily. Whether he could have gotten hypothermia or died from exposure is not really in question (it is certain if he had no coat), so whether he was wearing his coat and how long he was exposed is an extremely important detail. If he did not have his coat but hypothermia did not kill him, then we know he was picked up or something else happened within 45 minutes or so. According to Google Maps, this is also the approximate time it would take to walk 2 miles from the party to the bridge W of Dump Road on Rt 3, which I imagine would be the most obvious indication that he was going the wrong way (assuming he took a wrong turn.) Sadly I do not think there is any way he could have walked the 5-7 miles home in those temps without a coat.

According to the NamUS info it doesn't sound like they know for certain that he had the coat or backpack. Someone at the party must be able to remember seeing him leave and can confirm what he was wearing. https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/14305/1/

Here is an article on hypothermia and burrowing for anyone who is not totally familiar with it. http://www.livescience.com/41730-hypothermia-terminal-burrowing-paradoxical-undressing.html (sources a peer-reviewed medical study here)

It was mentioned some time back that footprints were found or there was other indication he had stepped over a guard rail. Guard rails start between Setting Pole Dam Rd and Mt Matumbla Rd. going west. Do we know if it was the south or north side the footprints were found? Approximately where?

https://goo.gl/maps/OPKpq

The question this scenario brings up, of course, is why hasn't even a shoe or scrap of clothing been found?

On to the foul play angle:

I recall a map of the search area with a 1 mile radius - this is not enough, obviously, and I think someone said the search was widened, but do we know if the Piercefield Flow was searched, especially the area around and under the bridge? What about the cluster of ponds near Dump Rd and on the other side of the bridge? Pumphouse Rd is especially creepy and convenient if someone needed to quickly get rid of a body.

At three years, we can only hope to find clothing or the backpack and larger bones if he was placed nearby Rt. 3. With the cold weather and abundance of water, I really don't think anyone would take the time to bury him, and if he went into the larger body of water, it is also likely his remains are very spread out or partially buried in silt at this point. Has there been cadaver dogs or a dive team?

Final question, does LE have a POI or suspect whatsoever? Have they even considered foul play as a possibility?

Somewhere, deep inside, I feel LE has a POI but is just keeping it quiet, and waiting for the right evidence to procure an arrest and viable charge.
