NY - Convicted child rapist is Upper West Side building super

  • #41
the NY Post reported he's a super for 2 other bldgs

"140 and 142 W. 75th St."

Either they have a misprint/typo or one of the employment addresses is incorrect on his RSO info...but you're right - one addy doesn't match with the info we have from the Post.

No missprint...It is true.

GOOD REAL ESTATE PAPER....It gets to all the brokers...and is also sold to the public.... the good news is that MANY people who are in the Market are also reading it...(not all It is not cheep, I think it costs about 4 dollars or something like that)
the good brokers will not touch the property with a 10 foot pole until it has been solved completely.

but then there are greedy brokers that do not give a chit, and will do anything for a dollar. :(
Since it is now public they can be sued, hope they don't even try it. (I teach Real Estate Ethics)

I would actually be delighted to hire a newly released convict trying to get his/her feet on the ground if the circumstances were right.

However, in this case, the building landlord didn't even run a check on this man. I find that negligent on so many levels when you are hiring anyone who will have access to the private spaces of so many people.

And I definitely don't think someone who was convicted of rape is a good match for this of job.

BBM
:waitasec: Circumstances can only be right if he was falsely convicted. IMO.
I personally would not be as kind as you are, I would not trust anyone who's ethics are questionable.
CURED...not likely. JMO A thief is a thief, a fighter is a fighter, an SO is an SO, JMO....
(dishwasher in a restaurant- maybe.... stock clerk-maybe.... Garbage collector-maybe.. only if they were arrested for a small drug charge not a huge one I would agree with you - Me chicken....)

You are right that he is definitely the wrong match for this job.

I did notice, the 2 addresses, but it also said the 144 W 73rd was confirmed 12/09, but BY OFFENDER?
Is that the way they confirm SO addresses in NY?
He resided at the building on west 73 street, but also managed additional buildings on west 75 street.

Another link for same info. stripped of keys. Thanks for nothing. Also, megan's law website says neighbors were not notified when he moved into area.
There is just no excuse in this day and age for a thorough background check not to be done on anyone.

I am not sure they ever notify any of the neighbors at all. Never heard of it in NYC.
There are websites that a new renter should check to see if they are within close distance of an SO.

Sometimes I am managing a building and a potential tenant will ask me if there are any sex offenders in the area.
A) I would not know because one could have moved in to the area very recently .
B) I am not allowed to give that information because maybe they all moved out.
C) I do not stay abreast of that information.

I tell them to check the web site, There are many web sites and some by zip code.

Wow - my fiance works on the UWS and as part of his job he has keys to his clients apartments so he can get in and out during the day. I know he has several clients in the 70's. I am going to look up the addresses in his database when I get home tonight to see if any of them live in any of these addresses. I assist fiance sometimes when he needs help and stay at clients apartments so it is surely in my best interest to figure out if there is any association. So scary for the people who live there.

At my apartment building the super does not have keys to our apts. If they ever have to enter during the day for maintenance work we have to leave our keys with them.

A little OT:

Songline - you are a broker? So, when I am in the market for another apartment you would be happy to wave your broker fee right? The ol' Websleuths discount? :)

OT....
I have been a manager for Developers/Landlords in the past 8 years (looking for work, my last developer lost founding).
but yes I am broker and have taught all the RE courses too. LOL - let me know when you need something, we can discuss it....
But If you are asking me if I would work for free I'm going to say no. :) but sometimes landlords DO PAY part if not all the fee, in that case my answer would be.. no fee at all for you :).
I am not looking for that so don't go referring people who want something for nothing. LOL But you I LIKE.

The way I read this is his keys were taken away, but landlord Katz is not sure what to do regarding the supper - Billy the perp.
No he has not been locked out of the building. that would be good new.
I know I am rushing today, but that is how I read it.
I saw the perp this week walking down the street, so he is still working for Katz :waitasec: or at least that is what I was thinking.
