@Melzarino I'm here because of your post on the other thread. Also responded to you there.

I wonder if Das is still missing? IMO it was possibly someone besides family who reported him missing or his race would be listed.

And why is there not more information on his case? I couldn't find him on Charley Project or through searching for his name.

I found one search engine hit using "Das Rishin Williamsville" on a real estate site, but the site was blocked for me.

If he is not missing, he or his family could get in touch with law enforcement (LE) so he can be removed from NamUs.
If he is missing, I hope someone close to the case will ask LE for NamUs to be updated with more details. Family could submit DNA if they haven't already.

And they could submit to become a verified insider here on Websleuths and post the facts. All just my opinion.

This is great! Thanks so much for interacting with my posts. These are great Ideas.
The little information on Ras was very difficult to come across! I think family would be a good bet here they would know better than anyone.

I think someone made an error entering this information and switched the first and last name. "Das" is a very common Indian surname, not used as a given name, and "Rishin" is a given name. Moreover, I found a 2004 article on one Rishin Das, 22, who vanished on April 5 of that year from Williamsville. It has to be the same person.

The article has more information: Rishin, a University of Buffalo Graduate, "told his parents he was going to the Clearfield Public Library in Amherst, then the Village Glen gym in Williamsville", but it's unclear if he made it to either. On April 17, his car was found in Niagara Falls, "in the lower parking level of the former Rainbow Centre Mall". The manager of a local Hospitality Inn told police he thought Rishin had tried to check in there on April 7, saying he had fought with his parents and needed a place to stay, but he wasn't given a room due to not having ID or money. Rishin was suffering from depression at the time of his disappearance and was apparently stressed about not being able to find a job. LE said they didn't suspect foul play at that time and that they were worried he had drowned in Niagara Falls. If I find anything else I'll post it here.

@Melzarino IMO it was possibly someone besides family who reported him missing or his race would be listed.
I must note here that the "uncertain" label may have come from whoever entered the info not being sure how to classify an individual of Indian descent. Technically we're "Asian" for census purposes, but many people still assume "Asian" means East Asian specifically.

@ep1999
Thanks, I really should have realized his first name is Rishin, last name Das.

I can't read the article you posted due to my location, but what a tragedy. It makes more sense now that there weren't "updates." I feel for his family - it's heartbreaking.

Thank you for your insight.
I completely understand that Westerners think of 'Asians' as east Asians. It's like they have no definition of what Indians, Pakistanis, Bengalis, Afghanistanis, etc. are. I believe most Westerners think of all Muslim countries (understand India is not Muslim) as Middle Eastern, as opposed to Asian. And they definitely don't understand where Malaysia, etc. fit in. In the end, we just aren't well educated about the world. Sadly.
