Does anyone know if David had worn braces prior to going missing?

David had some dental work done by the Air Force when stationed in England, but no mention of him wearing tooth braces.

He had been on limited duty and going to medical appointments for a condition of some sort for a few weeks prior to going missing. In fact, he was supposed to go to a doctor appointment on base, which he failed to show for on 10 December 1984.

2. Went missing 10 Dec 1984
3. Age: 22 Years old
4. Height 5 ft 8 inches
5. Weight at enlistment 138 lbs. (4 years earlier)
6. Brown curly hair, combed
7. Blue eyes.
8. Blood Type: O negative
9. Clothing Last seen: handmade sweater, slacks, Tennis shoes, or black leather oxfords.
10. Fingerprints not available in USAF records
11. Dentals: Available old copy. Recent dental work done in England by USAF
12. Personal effects: David had combed hair and trimmed nails. Carried keys for house, locker, barracks/dorm room, car. Regarding sheets of paper, David was known to have been to ATM and Bank just prior to his disappearance and may have had withdrawal slips on his person.

I know that David's case has been compared with at least 3 John Doe cases without a match.

Does anyone have a list of "rule outs"?

At one time, his mother and sister offered to donate DNA samples, but do not know if the Air Force investigators took them up on it.

David has remained on the Air Force list as a deserter since about 10 January 1985, at which time he had been missing for 30 days.

I'm struck by what was left in the vehicle - specifically the stroller and Pampers. I don't know, I just don't feel like he would have taken off and not somehow or another figured a way to return those (and the purse to his girlfriend). Even to just call and say, hey, I'm in trouble, this is where x, y, z are.

It seems to me that anything sort of "identifiable" and "linked" I guess to him in some ways were all removed - class A uniform, purse with contents, military stickers and plates. Anything of dollar value - purse contents, radio and other car parts - were all removed (and I guess you could lump the base stickers and plates in there as well).

It about 600 miles from Rome, NY to Halifax, NC. I believe something happened to him much closer to the AFB and Rome, NY. There are state forests all around and within close proximity to Rome and the largest lake in the state of NY, Oneida Lake with a surface area of some 80 miles, is within about 15 miles.
