Circumstances of Disappearance:
Dawson went missing from Sterling, New York on April 25, 1996. He spent the night at a friend's residence on Route 38 and was last seen when he went to bed around 11:30 p.m. When his friend woke up the next morning, Dawson was gone although his bed appeared to have been slept in. He left all of his belongings behind, including his unregistered vehicle, but he may have taken his wallet. He has never been heard from again.

Dawson was attempting to overcome a drinking problem at the time of his disappearance and authorities believe he initially left to find alcohol. He was known to walk relatively long distances, sometimes as far as Fulton or Oswego in New York. There was an unconfirmed sighting of him on the Nichols Road Bridge near Martville, New York at 7:30 a.m. on April 26. He was also reportedly seen on a bridge in Oswego, twenty miles from Sterling. He was reported missing by his mother-in-law on May 3rd, 1996.

At the time of his disappearance, Dawson led a semi-transient lifestyle without a permanent address, although he kept in close touch with his family. He had separated from his wife and two children about a year before. He worked odd jobs in the Martville area and was well-known locally and had many friends. He was owed some money as a result of some work he had done, but he never picked it up.

Despite ground searches in the area, Dawson has never been located and investigators believe he is probably deceased. It is unclear whether foul play was involved, and there was no indication that he was suicidal. His case remains unsolved and his whereabouts remain unknown.

This case is striking, but at the same time, it bothered me... Why did he separate from his children? It doesn't matter to the mother, he wasn't going to be her husband forever, but he was always going to be the father of your children... I imagine they separated because of his alcoholism... it's logical that he wouldn't have a vehicle if he had that problem... I can think of two things... maybe that's why he was depressed and tried to commit suicide... or in his upset state, he had a fight and was murdered... I suppose the county where he was lost is huge, with rivers and lakes... easy to get rid of a body...
whatever it is
Rest in peace
